CHAPTER 34: CHAPTER 29: PROFESSIONAL SEQUENCE

"Good morning, Sean."

"Good morning, Captain."

With a slightly playful tone, Shawn made Benjamin in front of him smile.

Behind Benjamin was Daisy, her eyes darting around. Shawn suspected she didn’t actually have social anxiety, she just rarely interacted with people before, and ordinary people couldn’t get along with her.

"I brought you some grilled cheese rolls." Daisy said cheerfully, lifting up a bag.

Shawn reached out to take it and said, "Thanks."

"How’s that man from yesterday?"

Benjamin took off his hat and hung his coat to the side, saying, "He’s fine for now, already sent to the psychologist."

"However, because of the ritual, he unconsciously digested a part of the Extraordinary Essence."

"He might not be able to live an ordinary life in the future."

Ascended to a Transcendent?

Shawn looked a bit surprised and asked, "So how do you plan to settle him?"

Benjamin thought for a moment and said, "The Night Watch Headquarters will likely assess his psychological condition first. Since he managed to endure the false temptations for so long, his mental resilience should be quite good."

"Currently, there is a significant shortage of Transcendents on the Casting Path within the Night Watch."

"If he passes the assessment, he might directly be promoted to a Night Watcher."

Casting Path?

Did that man digest the Primitive Magic Power of the ’indescribable falsehood’?

Curious, Shawn asked, "Which path’s power did he digest?"

Benjamin sat down at the dining table, poured himself a cup of red tea, and said, "The Wizard Path, Illusionist Sequence."

"We’ll have to wait for the specific assessment results."

Illusionist?

That makes sense. He digests Primitive Magic Power derived from falsehood, entirely different from Shawn’s promotion path, inherently specializing in a specific sequence.

Among the Twelve Mythical Paths, each ascension system has a corresponding sequence.

Or perhaps it’s a concept of a lower level.

Maybe someday in the future, humanity will reclaim fate, and a certain sequence could become a new Path of Myth.

Shawn sat down and poured Daisy a cup of red tea, "Has the matter come to an end?"

"Yes." Benjamin nodded, took a sip of tea, and said, "All the Extraordinary Relics have been recovered, and the most dangerous one has been sent to the Church for sealing."

"The upcoming chase is the job of the Death Pilgrim."

Death Pilgrim.

It’s said they are a group that only deals with killing, not burying.

When Night Watchers deal with supernatural incidents, they try to accommodate people with minor contamination, even integrating them into the organization. But Death Pilgrims are different, they kill without saving, only dealing with the most dangerous criminals, who are basically all High Sequence Transcendents.

These people are very mysterious, Shawn has never seen them, only heard their reputation.

If Night Watchers want to ascend to Pilgrims, they must at least complete the Promotion Sequence of the fourth stage, with very special assessments.

Transcendents in the Bizarre Realm are hard to categorize by detailed strength levels.

Because according to the current ascension system, the paths of all Transcendents have great volatility. In the old era’s Professional Sequence system, the first ascension was Extraordinary Levels 1-5, the second was 6-10, the third was 11-15, and the fourth was 16-20.

After that, every stage of ascension is divided into 5 level fluctuations, allowing you to judge your opponent’s strength only within a tier of the Extraordinary Path.

As for the ascension of the fifth stage, Shawn is unclear, as it belongs to the Domain of fate.

"Those not strong enough have already been served on the table."

Benjamin is at least a Tier Two Transcendent, as he has shown power from the ’Deceitful Technique’ sequence, similar to the ghost-faced assassin, whose sequence is ’Shadow.’

"According to the divisions in the Dream Realm, Benjamin’s Extraordinary Level scale is between 6-10."

The Bizarre Realm itself is an absurd and chaotic world, and the strength level of Transcendents is merely a manifestation of human understanding of the world, trying to classify supernatural powers in a comprehensible way, which means this understanding is not necessarily accurate.

Because ultimately, the essence of power possessed by all Transcendents comes from the ancient unspeakable!

"They are a group of chaotic and disordered existences."

Daisy lay bored on the table, daydreaming.

She didn’t like red tea.

Her character is indeed a bit like a child, especially after she got familiar with Shawn.

"What do you have planned next?" Shawn asked.

Benjamin paused with his teacup in hand, sighed, "There’s a Transcendent from the Poet Path in the Dagon Region who used Charming Ability to seduce a local noblewoman into being his lover, causing quite a bit of trouble. It’s said he’s now fled to Dorne City, and the higher-ups want me to investigate."

"Such misuse of Extraordinary Power undermines the foundations of order."

Poet Path?

Isn’t that the Promotion Sequence where one can do anything but not excel at anything?

Extraordinary Relics of this path are not easy to obtain.

Because not many irregular beings exist, and the highest sequence’s Extraordinary Essence is said to originate from an ancient being fond of flute playing.

The essence of the Bizarre Realm is that all Extraordinary Powers are stolen from the ancient indescribable ones, resulting in many Old Era professional systems disappearing into the river of history, unable to obtain corresponding Extraordinary Essences.

Only those professional systems that could obtain corresponding ’Extraordinary Essences’ eventually evolved into the current Promotion Sequence.

Outside the existing Promotion Sequence, there are some unclassified eerie powers.

The promotions in these paths might not have any transitional period, meaning you can’t level up by fighting monsters; facing a dormant ancient one might be directly required to obtain the corresponding Extraordinary Essence. (No creation, no clan, and no lesser irregular concept to gradually enhance Extraordinary Essence.)

The current 24 Professional Sequences are relatively easy to obtain Extraordinary Essence promotion systems.

They could originate from some strange creatures, certain indescribable illusions, or an ancient one’s clan, but there’s always different ways to achieve promotion and obtain corresponding Extraordinary Essence.

These knowledges are the heritage left by the mythical legends of that era.

If the way to obtain a certain Extraordinary Essence is cut off, one among the 24 Professional Sequences will inevitably become a part of history’s river.

This number is ever-changing because there were only 6 Professional Sequences initially.

In the dining room.

Shawn lifted the cup of tea and took a sip, "Do you need my help?"

Benjamin shook his head, "No need. You should rest up; after all, you’re here on vacation."

The Investigator’s vacation is very important.

Most of the time, all departments won’t cut the Investigator’s vacation because without a break to restore rationality, Investigators have a higher chance of losing control than Night Watchers.

After all, their daily tasks involve investigating various eerie events.

Their Rationality Value continuously drops.

"Investigators have at least three months of paid vacation every year; expenses incurred during trips can be reimbursed, and the benefits are pretty good," Shawn mused silently.

Benjamin sat for a while and then left.

However, Daisy stayed behind, she cheerfully smiled at Shawn, "I’m on vacation lately. Wanna go fishing at the dock this afternoon?"

Shawn shook his head at this remark, "No."

"Take me to the library instead."

"Preferably arrange a room where I won’t be disturbed."

The promotion on the Casting Path is much slower than other combat paths.

Shawn must accumulate enough knowledge to accelerate the digestion of Primitive Magic Power.

Luckily, he has the Maze Library provided by Lady Hecate, if he were on another promotion method on the Wizard Path, digesting Primitive Magic Power would be even slower because of the lack of mysterious knowledge. It takes years just to digest the Extraordinary Essence of the first phase.

In this aspect, combat path Transcendents find it much easier, as Warriors can accelerate the digestion of Extraordinary Essence by simply slashing people.

But they don’t possess sufficient knowledge, and knowledge is indeed power.

Shawn hasn’t yet read through all foundational knowledge on Extraordinary Paths; currently, he only knows a Wizard Path’s promotion element is [Knowledge].

The more knowledge, the faster the increase in power.

As for other Extraordinary Paths, there’s a record of a retired war veteran suddenly becoming a Transcendent by accidentally promoting, instantly digesting all Extraordinary Essence, and obtaining Supernatural Power from the source of [Courage].

In a quiet reading room, Daisy sat idly at the door.

Not far away.

Shawn’s slender figure sat composed at the desk, beside him a towering pile of books, the book titled "General Linguistics" was flipping pages quickly, and behind him, a hefty Western Continent history tome floated up out of thin air and gently rested beside the desk.

He is now a relentless reading machine!

Daisy, resting her chin, glanced at Shawn, picked out a fantastical romance adventure journal from the bookshelf, and began flipping through it idly on her lap.

"No wonder the forest elder said Wizards are the hardest Transcendent Path to promote," Daisy murmured quietly.

Luckily, Transcendents on the Path of Nature emphasize following one’s heart.

Daisy only needs to comprehend nature and self, unlike Shawn, who seeks endless knowledge.

She gets a headache just from reading.
