Bizarre Realm
Chapter 46 - 1: Investigator Sean
CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 1: INVESTIGATOR SEAN
Woo woo woo!
Accompanied by the sound of the train whistle, Sean’s figure emerged from the train station’s restroom.
He was wearing a large black trench coat and a black bowler hat, resembling a private investigator from the Dorne Region, drawing the attention of passersby for a moment.
Sean really hadn’t expected Mr. Gate would send him to this position.
He had come out of the mirror.
The sky was cloudy, indicating it might rain today.
"It seems like the whole Dorne City has many doors leading to the Bizarre Realm." Sean observed the passing crowd, thinking to himself: "Are they hidden teleportation arrays?"
Mr. Gate was also an inscrutable uncanny existence.
Sean, carrying his suitcase, followed the crowd towards the train station’s exit, appearing just like an ordinary traveler. The area around the train station was bustling with people; at this time of year, there were always many migrant workers.
Urbanization was gradually concentrating the population.
At the train station’s exit, Sean saw a familiar figure.
Benjamin Tilian.
He still wore a neat suit, a tall hat, and held a black umbrella in his hand. His tall and slender figure stood out in the crowd, his handsome face and high-bridged nose, like a statue from Ancient Greece, attracting the attention of many young women passing by.
A gentleman of notable presence.
"Welcome back, Sean." Benjamin greeted with a smile.
Sean feigned a surprised look, teasingly saying, "Why is the captain here to pick me up?"
Benjamin remained as courteous and polite as ever, calmly replying, "I’m on vacation today."
At this moment, Sean noticed a somewhat timid figure.
Is it him?
Sean saw a boy of about fifteen or sixteen, his expression revealing a hint of awe as he looked at Sean. Standing behind Benjamin, the boy noticed Sean’s gaze and bashfully stepped forward to greet him, "Hello, Mr. Sean."
One of the two thieves who had once stolen Sean’s wallet, the youngest one.
Benjamin introduced, "Jeff Fan."
"Trainee Investigator."
"Hank is on vacation during this period, so he’s with me temporarily."
Is he recruited?
Sean nodded slightly and then frowned, "Hasn’t Hank returned yet?"
Hank was the fisherman from the Wharf District.
An experienced investigator.
Quite talkative.
If Sean remembered correctly, Hank had already started his vacation at that time. Sean had been learning from Lady Hecate for more than two months, and Hank should have finished his break by now, considering investigators only get about three months of vacation a year.
Benjamin lowered his voice a bit, saying softly, "He unexpectedly encountered a Mirror Demon some time ago."
"Headquarters granted him an additional two-week vacation."
Mirror Demon?
Indescribable illusion?
Sean nodded quietly. After investigators contact bizarre creatures, they indeed need to adjust their psychological state.
The real world has always experienced bizarre intrusions. Investigators, Night Watchers, Death Pilgrims — Sean didn’t know if there were higher entities, but the Transcendents have always silently guarded the peace of the real world, maintaining the foundation of the reality’s order most importantly.
If the order ceases to exist, reality would cease as well.
Sean couldn’t tell if it was his imagination, but the boy who had once stolen his wallet seemed shorter than when they last met.
It’s normal for people to grow taller.
Becoming shorter is quite unusual.
Benjamin had driven an old-fashioned, vintage car to pick him up, with William as the driver, who greeted Sean with a smile.
"He has great potential."
Benjamin glanced at the young boy behind him, seeming to notice Sean’s confusion, he whispered, "Half-Elf lineage, Wandering Path."
"Just a youth who strayed off course."
"We’ve investigated his family background; it’s clean. He has a mother with tuberculosis, a younger brother, and a younger sister, both very young, and his father died unexpectedly years ago. The top plans to nurture him a bit."
Sean nodded quietly, knowing not to ask too many questions.
Ordinary people advancing to become Transcendent requires some luck. Those who undergo a personality change immediately after advancement, showing signs of losing control, are marked as dangerous targets. The Night Watch Headquarters has its own set of assessment standards, with a very stringent screening process for integrating external Transcendents.
Half-Elf lineage?
So he is fused with Extraordinary Relics containing genetic material from a legendary race? No wonder during their first encounter, Sean didn’t have time to react at all.
Half-Elf’s agility is unmatched by humans.
Many Extraordinary Relics from the outside are not pure, containing dangerous impurities.
A part of the Extraordinary Essence originates from the ’Supreme Mother Goddess, Mother of Evil, Dark Mother Tree, Black Goat who nurtures thousands of offspring,’ a Pillar Level Old One from the Dark Era, who devoured all legendary races other than humans, these races’ genes would condense into fruits with uncanny powers aided by the twisted trees of the Dark Forest.
More than half of the evil objects in the Bizarre Realm were nurtured by it.
The evil objects bore genes from the legendary races of the Old Era, therefore the Transcendents on this path eventually change their racial template.
This pathway is more gifted, more polluted, with the highest chance of losing control.
Someone once specifically searched for the gene seeds of ’Mythical Races’.
The ’Lady of the House’ that Sean had once faced digested the genetic sequence of the Elf Race, her physical qualities greatly surpassed Benjamin and others.
Grand Pendulum Clock.
Still the same old apartment, Building 3, 12B. The familiar surroundings made Sean feel at ease.
When he got out of the car, he saw a little girl selling flowers.
Her gaze lingered on Sean for a moment, her small face showing a bit of hesitation. Seeing Sean waving, she cheerfully ran over.
"Good morning, sir." The little girl greeted very politely.
Sean pulled out a 1 Dinar banknote and selected a bunch of pale yellow chrysanthemums from her hand.
The little girl handed him the change, thanked him, "Thank you, sir, and have a great day."
The room remained the same.
It seemed that nobody else had moved in after he left.
Benjamin had other matters to attend to, he left after picking Sean up, and would take him to Headquarters for the official appointment tomorrow.
"It feels comfortable staying here."
Sean took off his coat, put away the four revolvers, and was about to return a small bottle filled with sulfur into his pocket after thinking for a while.
Someone had cleaned it up in advance, and the eggs, milk, and condiments seemed to have been replaced.
"After officially signing the contract, I’ll have to pay the bills myself."
"But luckily, investigators receive a housing subsidy."
Sean brewed himself a cup of tea and went to the balcony, gazing at the bustling market in the distance, murmuring, "The real world is still the best!..."
Bizarre Realm.
There are people who bear heavy burdens quietly, and maybe one day, Sean would also have to take up a heavy responsibility.
There is no such thing as a free lunch in the world.
After arriving here, all the favors and rights Sean enjoys come with responsibilities.
Park District.
There weren’t many people in the afternoon, only some university students picnicking.
Sean arrived in front of the standing unnamed stone monument, offering the bouquet of pale yellow chrysanthemums in his hand.
"Knowing that you’ve been here."
"I am not so desperate now." Sean took off his hat and bowed deeply.
The sun shone brightly.
Sean looked up at the sun, a gentle breeze scattered the clouds, shedding a dazzling light over the earth.
Investigator Sean.
