CHAPTER 68: CHAPTER 12: ZEN ARCHERY (PART 3)
"They were originally planning to make a Curious."
"But the obsession of that unstable being was too deep, just getting close caused mental contamination. In the end, I broke it down and made a box of bullets."
"Since you’ve figured it out, just keep it."
Chassie is a straightforward person, but this welcome gift of hers is quite valuable; this bullet is worth a lot.
Shawn glanced at Hank, who signaled him to accept it.
"Thank you," Shawn nodded in gratitude.
Upon hearing this, Chassie laughed heartily, patting Shawn on the shoulder. Her strength was overwhelming, nearly making Shawn stagger. She cheerfully said, "No need to be polite."
Shawn roughly knew what these special bullets were made of.
No wonder each one needed reporting and documentation.
Chassie got up and opened a cabinet, taking out one sealed black box after another, each storing bullets separately. A box contained twelve, each handcrafted, and Shawn couldn’t discern them, but could tell the bullets were different colors; black, silver, red, etc. In the last box, the bullets seemed made of pure silver.
Hank stood up and said, "Pick three."
"Black ones are for dealing with creatures of the Path of Flesh and Blood, silver ones can harm intangible anomalies, and red ones explode, useful against most monsters."
Each bullet contained sealed Extraordinary Essence inside.
The casings of these bullets were as exquisite as artworks, and at the moment Shawn touched them, his spirituality trembled slightly.
"Handle them with care."
"Although they’re sealed, you understand what kind of stuff is inside."
Chassie laughed and said, "If the casing gets damaged, and the rune engravings are scratched, return them to me immediately."
Her words made it seem as though these bullets might bite.
Shawn nodded silently, choosing one of each type of bullet and sealing them in an individual small box.
Chassie put the other boxes away, enthusiastically said, "I accept custom orders here."
"Whether it’s firearm modifications, special bullets, or any other requests, feel free to come to me."
"My fees are very reasonable."
She smiled and extended her hand toward Shawn, "If you have any Extraordinary Relics you can’t use and want to offload, you can also come to me."
"I have connections."
At this moment, Chassie appeared to be a businesswoman, but Transcendents of the Casting Path indeed always seemed strapped for cash.
Outside the corridor.
After leaving with Shawn, Hank solemnly said, "The red one has significant power, don’t shoot at close range."
Shawn nodded to indicate he understood.
There were only three bullets in total, plus Chassie’s additional gift, just four shots. Shawn felt it was a bit too few. But considering these bullets were made from Extraordinary Relics, it’s likely that the supply was quite tight at Night Watcher’s headquarters.
Hank patted Shawn on the shoulder and said, "Handle them with care. They could save your life in a critical moment."
"The cafeteria is to the south, free of charge."
"I have something to do in the afternoon, so I’m leaving now."
After speaking, he waved his hand, lit a cigarette, and walked out of the headquarters; he didn’t dare to smoke inside.
Shawn watched Hank leave.
The time now was eleven in the morning, so he figured he might as well have lunch before patrolling the streets. Without specific task assignments, Investigators were usually like wanderers, often spending a lot of time idly wandering around Dorne City.
As long as they didn’t mess up at critical moments, the work of an Investigator was quite stable.
Shawn moved slightly before leaving, feeling confused.
In his Spiritual Vision, the whole house where Chassie resided was suffused with a faint black mist.
This place stored many dangerous extraordinary relics.
Big cafeteria.
Shawn surprisingly arrived not too early; a woman was already eating there, wearing a white lab coat, motioning to Shawn as she saw him.
"Doctor Enide."
This area had two cafeterias, where Shawn’s location was the south corridor, presumably the logistics department’s cafeteria, providing food that resembled a buffet. He got himself two pieces of roasted lamb chops, several vegetables, and a bowl of borscht, sitting beside Doctor Enide.
Doctor Enide was almost done eating, she wiped her mouth and said, "Why not go to the one across the corridor?"
"That’s the combat personnel cafeteria, more sumptuous."
Hmm?
There’s an even better one?
Shawn bit into the juicy, succulent lamb chop, smiled and said, "This is already great."
Saving some expenses.
Hmm, tomorrow he should go over to the corridor and see what they’re eating.
Doctor Enide stood up and said, "Your last test report is out, go to the med room and get it yourself."
After speaking, she waved her hand casually and quickly disappeared at the stairwell.
When Shawn finished lunch and went out, he grabbed the test report. Everything was normal; he hadn’t been contaminated by unstable beings. Blood tests were all clear. At the stairwell, he saw Jason Tangel being supported by someone, already bandaged like a mummy, looking like an extraordinarily robust giant mummy.
He was thoroughly wounded, yet still had such a lively expression, even raised his hand to greet Shawn, then winced from pain.
Shawn had watched as he was carried in for urgent care back then, half of his body already carbonized.
"Transcendents who have come this far have strong mental fortitude."
Shawn looked back, preparing to patrol the streets.
Slacking off.
This was the daily routine of most Investigators; if eerie events happened all the time, the real world couldn’t be so peaceful.
"Kind of feels like they’re raising Death Warriors!..."
Shawn chuckled, facing the bright sunlight, and entered the mortal world of Dorne.
