Born In Ashes: The Enigma
Chapter 160: Glen Thompson
CHAPTER 160: GLEN THOMPSON
"Accept the communication," Azrael said.
As his voice fell, the screen in the control room of the spaceship flickered to life, revealing the image of a middle-aged man wearing a military uniform.
The man had a stern face, and his tone was serious as he addressed them.
"Please show your spaceship registration number and state your purpose for coming here."
Luo Bingqing immediately stepped forward upon hearing the man’s words. He pulled out a card from his storage ring and placed it against the scanner beside the screen.
Within seconds, the details of their spaceship were transmitted to the man.
When the man received the information and saw that the ship was registered on Planet Arkanis under the name of Slayers Academy, his expression shifted slightly.
’Could it be...’ He thought.
Before the man could say more, Azrael spoke.
"We are the students of the Slayers Academy. We have accepted the mission of finding the whereabouts of the Transcendent Organization."
As he spoke, he also transmitted an official document bearing the mission hall stamp of the academy.
The man quickly examined the document and once he confirmed its authenticity and that there was nothing amiss, his stern expression eased slightly, and he nodded.
"Thank you for coming to help us. Please follow the coordinates I have just sent. You will need to dock your spaceship at the space station, as currently, the spaceships are not permitted to fly within the planet’s atmosphere. Someone will be waiting there to explain the current situation."
Azrael nodded, thanked the man, and ended the communication.
"Seems like the situation is really serious," Luo Bingqing remarked once the screen went dark.
Azrael and Elyara nodded in agreement.
Generally, spaceships weren’t forbidden for planetary use. But for Planet Fras to ban them outright meant the situation was indeed severe.
Compared to ordinary vehicles, spaceships were far harder to monitor. With so many people disappearing on Planet Fras, it was likely that ships were being used to transport them. Thus, the ban was understandable.
Their spaceship soon entered the atmosphere of Planet Fras and followed the coordinates they had been given.
Within minutes, they arrived at their destination— a space station far smaller than the one they had seen on Planet Arkanis. The number of ships stationed there was not even one-third of the vessels present at Arkanis’ station.
Their ship slowly descended, parking in an empty slot.
As soon as the vessel landed, Azrael’s eyes flashed as he sensed something.
"There’s an Epic-level warrior waiting for us outside. Do your best to conceal your levels when we meet him," He said to Luo Bingqing and Elyara.
At Azrael’s words, both Luo Bingqing and Elyara nodded before finally opening the spaceship’s door.
Before entering the planet’s atmosphere, Elyara had used an artifact to alter her appearance, transforming from her strikingly beautiful elven form into that of an ordinary human girl, since her true appearance was far too eye-catching which was not good for their mission.
The three of them stepped out of the spaceship and saw a brown-haired man who looked around fifty years old waiting for them. His slightly wrinkled face carried a flattering smile.
The man wore a military uniform with Planet Fras’ emblem on it and despite his age, his body was well-built, packed with dense muscle.
’He should be around Level 30 or 31,’ Azrael estimated, sensing the man’s aura.
"Hello, I am Major Glen Thompson. I will be assisting you with your mission. If you need anything, please let me know, and we will do our best to cooperate with you," The man introduced himself.
"Hello, Major Thompson," Azrael replied, shaking his hand. "I’m Azrael. Thank you for your cooperation."
Glen smiled at his words but was surprised when he couldn’t determine the level of any of them.
He could faintly sense the auras of Luo Bingqing and Elyara, but they were so subdued that he couldn’t gauge their strength. As for Azrael, he seemed to be nothing more than an ordinary person who hadn’t even awakened yet.
’Is he Level 40 or above? To the point where I can’t sense his strength at all?’ Glen wondered before continuing.
"You must be tired from your long journey. Please come with me. I’ll lead you to the hotel where you’ll be staying."
Azrael nodded, and as they followed Glen, he asked, "Can you tell us more about the current situation? For now, all we know is that the Transcendent Organization is kidnapping people and nothing else."
Glen let out a bitter smile and spoke in a heavy, weary tone.
"Honestly, we don’t know much either. We managed to capture a few of their members in the past month, but all of them were under the effect of a curse. The moment they were captured, they died instantly. As a result, we haven’t been able to gather any useful information about their plans."
"A curse..." All three of them narrowed their eyes at his words.
While using his smart band, Glen said to Azrael, "Let me send you all the information we’ve gathered so far."
Azrael nodded and gave him the unique number of his own smart band.
Moments later, Glen transmitted a large set of files.
Azrael didn’t review the files immediately. Instead, he shared them with Luo Bingqing and Elyara, deciding to wait until they reached the hotel before going through them.
While walking, Azrael looked up at the sky and noticed that, instead of being blue, the sky of Planet Fras was light purple in colour.
Through a hover car, Glen escorted them to a nearby hotel, only a few minutes away from the station.
The hotel towered fifty stories high, and they were directly given three best rooms at the top floor, one for each of them.
Throughout the journey, Elyara and Luo Bingqing remained silent. It wasn’t that they had nothing to ask Glen, but rather they didn’t want to attract his attention.
If they spoke too much, he might attempt to sense their levels. For that reason, they left the communication to Azrael. Moreover, Azrael had already shared the files Glen provided, so there was no need to press him for more details.
"Thank you for your assistance, Major Thompson. We’ll begin working tomorrow. If we encounter any problems, we’ll reach out to you," Azrael said politely.
"It’s my duty to assist you," Glen replied with a smile. "I’ll take my leave now. If you need anything, just let me know, and I’ll do my best to help."
After ensuring their accommodations, Glen departed.
"Looks like he wasn’t able to sense our levels," Luo Bingqing remarked once the major was gone.
"He is quite weak for an Epic-level warrior," Elyara said in an indifferent tone. "He must have advanced by consuming a large number of resources rather than cultivating his source core through proper training."
Azrael didn’t bother commenting. Instead, his eyes fell on the files Glen had sent earlier.
"I’ll see you both later," He said before turning away toward his room.
"Will we be working together?" Elyara asked as she watched him leave.
"Let’s check the details Glen sent us first. We can decide how to proceed after that," Azrael answered without looking back, entering his room and closing the door behind him.
Luo Bingqing and Elyara exchanged glances before shrugging their shoulders and heading to their own rooms as well.
