Chapter 69 - Su Yuening Glitches Into the Dungeon and Mario’s Hammer

Bai Wan and Su Yuening locked eyes in a painfully awkward stare. For a moment, silence ruled the room.

Su Yuening, utterly bewildered, stared at the pervert who had barged into her bathroom. Her mind spun in disbelief.

Wait... am I inside a dungeon right now? No way... I wasn’t even assigned to this PvP round, was I?

She had just been lying in bed a moment ago. Had she fallen asleep?

She pinched her own cheek.

“Ow…” Definitely not dreaming.

Then, to her horror, she watched a white thread slowly appear out of thin air and wrap itself around her arm.

“?????”

Su Yuening’s mouth fell open as she heard that all-too-familiar and despair-inducing system voice:

[Player Su Yuening has been temporarily added to the dungeon.]

Su Yuening: “……”

Bai Wan: “……”

Seeing the storm brewing on Su Yuening’s face, Bai Wan gave her a sheepish smile and ventured a tentative, “Hi?”

“……”

“Hi my ass! Didn’t we just get out of an unsolvable-level dungeon together?!” Su Yuening felt a surge of blood rush to her head.

“That’s it—friendship terminated! You hear me?! Say it! Say Bai Wan is not Su Yuening’s friend!”

Bai Wan fumbled for words and muttered softly, “…Not Su Yuening’s friend…”

“WHO isn’t?”

“…Bai Wan isn’t…”

“Say it all together!”

“…Bai Wan is not Su Yuening…”

“YOU—!”

Completely drained, Su Yuening slumped to the ground.

Screw it. Whatever…I’m exhausted. I’m done. Why am I still here, just to suffer? Maybe ever since Bai Wan joined the officials, my body hasn’t been mine anymore…

She glanced around. Sure enough, she was no longer at home. This was a completely unfamiliar dormitory. With a weary groan, she dragged herself off the floor and flopped into bed.

God, please… just let me off already…

Seeing that the white-haired weirdo was clearly not in a good mood, Bai Wan tactfully didn’t push his luck. Instead, he slipped into the bathroom during the lunch break, placed a hand on the toilet—

Whoosh! With a burst of suction, he slid down through the pipes and re-entered Mario’s sewer system.

The Mario Coins he’d collected in the last dungeon had respawned.

Ding-ding!

Bai Wan bonked them one by one with his head, the coin count rapidly rising.

After sweeping up the coins, he headed to the Mushroom Shop nearby.

At first glance, he looked disappointed. There were only standard mushrooms—no Large Sun Mushrooms in sight. But then his eyes caught on something, and they lit up with surprise.

[Mimic Mushroom]

Description: After purchase, can transform into any previously bought mushroom.

Price: 200 Mario Coins

“I can use the Mimic Mushroom to turn into a Large Sun Mushroom… though it’s a bit pricey,” Bai Wan muttered, wincing at the cost. He’d only gathered about 90 Mario Coins so far—barely half of what he needed.

Suddenly he remembered: there had been a pile of coins in the Starlight Room. Now that the Mario Coin Shop had reached Level 3, that hidden room should be accessible.

Excited, Bai Wan leapt upward and reached the hidden area.

Shhhhhh—Dazzling starlight spread before him, with platforms stretching into the celestial void.

Just like Mario, Bai Wan jumped from step to step.

Whoosh!

He gobbled up every coin along the way until he finally landed on a massive platform. There, resting before him, was a hammer glowing with radiant blue light.

As he picked it up, its info appeared:

[Mario’s Hammer]

Description: The legendary hammer belonging to Uncle Mario.

Abilities:

[Coins-plosion] — Paranormal entities struck by the hammer will drop Mario Coins.

[Rainbow Hammer] — The more Mario Coins absorbed, the stronger the hammer becomes—up to seven color stages.

Bai Wan blinked in fascination.

Mario’s Hammer? It drops coins from ghosts? That’s… oddly fun. And it even powered up through coin absorption? Transforming into seven different colors?

I’ll have to tie up a ghost some day and test it out.

He looked ahead, hoping to continue forward—but there were no more stepping stones. Then the system popped up a new message:

[Spend 100 Mario Coins to build more stone platforms.]

After a brief pause, Bai Wan decided not to. He still needed those coins to buy the Mimic Mushroom, so he exited the Starlight Room.

He returned to the Mushroom Shop and spent 200 Mario Coins to buy the Mimic Mushroom.

Fwoosh!

As soon as it appeared, the mushroom transformed into the one he wanted. A sparkling mushroom now sat in Bai Wan’s hand:

[Large Sun Mushroom]

Description: Feeds it to a sunflower to grant massive sunlight.

Bai Wan looked at it with satisfaction.

Perfect. Now I can bring out Peashooter Fountain and Ghostflame Wall-nut with full firepower.

The PE class was scheduled for the afternoon.

And that was the main reason he’d entered this dungeon in the first place.

No—more accurately, it was what the Doctor had prepared that custom Awakening Crystal for. This PE class… was the core opportunity of this entire dungeon.

Bai Wan glanced at the special Awakening Crystal. Its cooldown was ticking down fast. At this rate, he’d soon be able to blow up the entire school. This just might become his fastest dungeon clear ever.

He was also incredibly curious—what would happen once his bug started affecting the dungeon?

Then there was that future vision he still couldn’t shake.

He… had died in the future and became a paranormal entity. How terrifying would that entity be?

The scene had taken place on a mysterious mountain. The HQ is currently investigating it, but who knows how long it would take to get results?

Another troubling thought crept in.

If he had died, does that mean the white furball had died too? Is there… perhaps a paranormal version of Su Yuening wandering that mountain as well?

For now, it was all a mystery. He just hoped the officials could find something soon. He wanted to meet that future version of himself and ask what had happened.

Bai Wan slapped his cheeks.

Focus. Deal with the future Bai Wan after this dungeon is over. For now, I need to focus on the present.

Classes at Nightmare Haunted Campus were very chill. Just a morning of lessons—afternoons were all free time.

He saw many paranormal students playing outside. Two ghosts were tossing their own arms in a distance-throwing contest. Another group played hide-the-head, taking turns hiding and searching for each other’s heads…

Bai Wan watched with great interest.

Su Yuening, unimpressed, curled her lip. “Lame.”

Seeing she was still moody, Bai Wan tried to comfort her. “Don’t worry. Once PE is over, we can leave this dungeon.”

“Really? I think I overheard the Doctor saying you needed to blow the place up with your ability…” she said, clearly curious about his awakened skill.

“You’ll see in a bit.” Bai Wan smiled.

Suddenly, a system prompt rang out:

[All players, please proceed to the stadium to participate in Paranormal P.E. class.

Rules: To build physical resilience, each student will face waves of assault from paranormal entities. The more waves you endure, the better your rewards. You may choose to exit voluntarily after surviving the minimum of two waves.]

It’s time.

Bai Wan immediately perked up.

This P.E. class was the most famous part of Nightmare Haunted Campus. The more waves of paranormal attacks you withstood, the greater the rewards.

The first wave had 1 ghost, the second wave 3, the third 9… and each subsequent wave tripled. According to official records, the current highest number of waves cleared was five—which earned the player a rare paranormal item.

But as the Doctor had explained, in theory, the rewards in this dungeon’s P.E. class was limitless—as long as you could survive enough waves.

That was why the Doctor had prepared the Awakening Crystal for Bai Wan. He wanted Bai Wan to test the limit—to see how many paranormal assaults could be endured.

As the entities tripling every wave, normal players simply couldn’t last long. But with Bai Wan’s arsenal of bug skills and the Awakening Crystal, he might be able to go further.

The so-called theoretical limit… was all the students in the school.

To reach it, he’d have to face every single paranormal student in Nightmare Haunted Campus alone. An unimaginable challenge.

After quickly getting ready, Bai Wan and Su Yuening headed to the stadium.

By the time they arrived, Yang Yujie and the others were already there, buzzing with anticipation.

They’d all heard about the P.E. class here. Just surviving three waves of paranormal attacks guaranteed at least one paranormal item. This was a major opportunity.

A headless P.E. teacher now stood in the middle of the stadium. She looked at the group and said, “We’ll begin stamina testing in student ID order. Number 1, Wang Yanfang—you’re up first.”

Wang Yanfang, of course, was Yang Yujie—I’mTheOneeSan.

Clutching her paranormal item tightly, she stepped forward. In her hand was a mirror—one she’d acquired from a previous dungeon, and one that harbored the power of a paranormal entity.

“Stamina Test, Round One—begin!” the headless teacher declared.

Immediately, one ghost student charged forward.

Yang Yujie didn’t use her haunted mirror just yet. Instead, she leapt back, toes grazing the ground, her whole body moving like a dancer.

Because she’d studied dancing in real life, she had unlocked a character skill called Dancer, allowing her to evade paranormal attacks with elegant footwork.

One ghost was manageable. With her graceful movements, she held out for thirty seconds and cleared Round One.

Round Two sent three ghost students charging at once. This time, dancing alone wasn’t enough—she had to use her haunted mirror.

Whoosh!

Three spectral hands shot out from the mirror and grabbed at the ghosts.

Crackle!

Paranormal energy clashed. The three ghost students froze in place.

Thirty seconds passed. Yang Yujie, pale and sweating, cleared Round Two.

Round Three brought nine ghost students.

She danced and used the mirror simultaneously. Since this was a PvP-style dungeon, the cooldown times of paranormal items were significantly reduced—the higher the item quality, the shorter the cooldown. Her haunted mirror, while not top-tier, was still one of the best among common-tier items, so it lasted her another round.

Fwoosh…

Round Three—successfully held off.

“I quit,” Yang Yujie gasped for breath. Making it through three waves was already a win—she would earn at least one common paranormal item.

She had hoped to push further, but her abilities couldn’t carry her through Round Four. Best to back off.

Next up were Li Wei and Chu Mo. They cleared two and three rounds respectively. Despite Li Wei’s fierce appearance, his actual strength was a little below both Yang Yujie and the zombie girl.

Then the headless teacher turned to Bai Wan. “Number 4, Lu Yuan. Your turn.”

Yang Yujie and the others perked up, watching from the sidelines with faint smirks.

Bai Wan had already used up his big thunder move against Blank. What could he possibly do now?

Bai Wan heard the teacher call his name. He nodded, and calmly stepped forward.
