Luo Lan gestured ahead and explained, “Black Mount has already been sealed off. This should’ve been a mountain path, but now it’s turned into a massive wall of rock. We can’t get through at all.”

“This mountain isn’t right. It’s brimming with powerful paranormal energy. There must be something up there,” Jiang Zai said with a frown.

“I just tested it too. This isn’t an illusion—it’s real,” Su Lingling added, her face slightly pale and weary after shutting her eyes to use some technique.

“So what do we do? This thing’s too thick to break through,” Lin Baoyu muttered, clutching his head.

HQ had gathered so many talented hunters here, yet they couldn’t even enter a mountain. It was starting to feel ridiculous.

But Bai Wan was already prepared. He took out the story book he carried. His bug-creating physique in the real world was absurdly strong—especially since his ability had grown stronger after triggering Error Code last time.

To the shock of Su Lingling and the others, Bai Wan sat down on the ground and opened the book.

…What is he doing? Reading fairy tales to calm his nerves?

The thought felt absurd—but then he actually started reading aloud.

“In the north of a mountain lived a foolish old man nearing ninety, called Yu Gong. His house faced two great mountains. The mountains blocked his family’s way in and out, so he gathered his family to discuss moving them, determined to use every ounce of strength to dig them away…”

Su Lingling: “???”

Jiang Zai: “???”

Lin Baoyu: “???”

Luo Lan: “???”

The three HQ hunters and local hunter Luo Lan all stared, dumbfounded.

What the hell is Family doing? Faced with an impassable mountain, instead of focusing on a solution, he sat down to… read The Old Fool Who Moves the Mountain?

Even more absurdly, after finishing once, Bai Wan began reading it again, and again.

“…Family, what are you doing?” Su Lingling couldn’t hold it in.

Even if it was the most moving story in the world, this was not the time!

“Hold on, let me read it one more time. It should work soon!” Bai Wan said earnestly.

“…What should work?” The four hunters were utterly confused.

Out of nowhere—

Clang! Clang! Clang!

An old man suddenly appeared out of nowhere, shovel in hand, hacking at the mountain wall.

“Ah?!”

Luo Lan froze. “Grandpa, how did you even get in here? This place is sealed off. It’s dangerous—please leave quickly!”

The old man looked back and said, “I appreciate the warning, but I am Yu Gong. This mountain blocks my home. I must move it.”

“????”

Luo Lan and the others gawked. Yu Gong? Is this guy for real?

The old man kept swinging his rusty shovel against the mountain to no effect. Soon he was panting with fatigue, but his voice was firm.

“No matter. If I cannot move it, my son will. If my son cannot, then my grandson will. On and on, for generations without end—someday, the mountain will be moved.”

As he spoke, young men and children began appearing around him. Then, like dumplings falling from the sky, people kept dropping down, each grabbing a shovel from nowhere and joining in.

Rain of people, one after another, hitting the ground, standing up without pain, and striking at the mountain.

“Ahhh???” Su Lingling and the rest were utterly floored.

Holyshit—this really is The Old Fool Who Moves the Mountain!

More and more people poured in—Yu Gong’s endless descendants, all manifested, all with shovels in hand, hammering away.

The four hunters were pushed aside by the swelling crowd. Their lips twitched.

What the hell is this scene? Why are Yu Gong and his entire bloodline showing up here?!

Their gaze snapped back to Bai Wan, still sitting cross-legged on the ground.

Did… did Family summon this? That’s insane!

And then—a mighty voice thundered from the sky:

“Yu Gong, your persistence, like the indomitable cockroach, has moved me. I shall send my two sons to split this mountain for you.”

…No way.

The four hunters widened their eyes in disbelief. They remembered how the tale ended—Yu Gong’s devotion touched the heavens, and the heavens sent divine help.

Lightning split the sky.

Crack!!!

With a deafening boom, the massive mountain wall was cleaved apart. In an instant, the towering obstacle vanished, the original mountain path restored.

Yu Gong smiled in relief, then he and his countless descendants faded away.

The hunters stood frozen, mouths agape, silence thick in the air. They’d known Family was the most mysterious rookie, famous for causing chaos in every dungeon he touched.

But this… this was absurd beyond comprehension.

Meanwhile, Bai Wan felt the Error Code energy within him dissipate after releasing the tale into reality. His bug ability wouldn’t trigger more stories so easily now.

Seeing the stunned looks around him, he explained, “That ability only works once. After that, it’s gone. So I’ll be counting on you all to protect me.”

The others finally came back to their senses and nodded. So that’s why HQ sent him—an ability like this was powerful, but surely full of restrictions. Maybe his only strength was his quirky support skills.

So the strongest rookie was… a support-type Para-Hunter. Support hunters had rare but bizarre abilities, yet usually lacked combat power.

“You’ve already done us a huge favor. Why don’t you wait here? It’ll be dangerous inside. You’re a support hunter, aren’t you?” Su Lingling said gently.

Bai Wan quickly waved his hands. “No, no, I’ll go with you.”

His future self had died here—he had to see for himself what lay inside Black Mount.

“Alright, but be careful,” Su Lingling said, seeing his determination.

Together, the team stepped inside.

The moment they crossed the boundary, the scenery warped. The fresh stone steps crumbled into a ruined stairway, weathered by centuries. The sky turned blood-red, and a chilling aura swept out to meet them. The cold bit into their bones, like stepping into an ice cavern.

Is this still Black Mount?

Su Lingling frowned and pulled out an instrument like a light bulb. Its glow shifted from white, to yellow, to violet—finally turning blood-red.

Even Su Lingling, usually calm, paled. “Be careful. The paranormal density here has reached the blood-red danger level. This place is extremely dangerous.”

The source had yet to appear, yet the energy was already this intense. It was her first time seeing such a thing.

“What do we do? Looks like we’ve been dragged into a Paranormal Domain,” Lin Baoyu muttered.

Paranormal Domains—terrifying fields only powerful entities could create. Such beings were always nightmarishly difficult to handle.

“To leave, we’ll have to capture the source of the domain. Looks like we’ll have to meet this ‘mountain god’ face-to-face,” Jiang Zai said with a grin.

Su Lingling turned to Bai Wan. “Stay behind me. Stick close—it’ll be safer.”

This wasn’t a situation a rookie could handle. Especially not a support-type. And since he was favored by the Doctor, she felt obligated to protect him.

Bai Wan blinked, surprised at the treatment. So she really thought he was purely a support hunter? In truth, he could fight—but if he could slack, why not?

He nodded quickly, darted behind her, and chirped, “Got it, Sis! I’m hiding now!”

“???”

Su Lingling froze.

Is this really the guy who cleared an unsolvable-level dungeon? She’d expected arrogance, pride, insistence on proving himself. She even had a pep talk ready.

But instead… he is acting like an obedient kid begging a rich older sister for protection.

Are prodigies nowadays really this… down-to-earth?
