CHAPTER 51: MYSTERIOUS

Goblin Hideout

Ragnar and Noah aimed their arrows at the five mysterious goblins who remained immobile and calm. They stood like statues, showing no reaction to the tension around them, unmoving.

"Release!" Ragnar called out.

Instantly, both of them let go and the arrows darted toward the goblins.

CLACK! CLACK! The noise echoed off the rock walls, making the silence oppressive.

Unfortunately, their aim was off and the arrows clashed with the walls instead.

"Shit!"

Both of them cursed in unison, readied another set of arrows, and fired once more — still missing their targets.

The goblins did not move and watched with an eerie calmness that unnerved the youths.

’What the heck are these guys!’ Ragnar frowned.

He would have underestimated them and attacked if he hadn’t seen them trapping his golems.

’What if we were the ones trapped like that?’ Ragnar shivered at the thought — had they been in the position of the stone golems, they would have met their ends long ago.

Knowing how the mysterious goblins could control the cave to their advantage, Ragnar grew overly cautious.

Both of them placed a new set of arrows on their bowstrings and fired at the goblins.

This time, Ragnar’s arrows went straight for the head of one of the mysterious goblins. A joyful expression quickly appeared on his face as he anticipated success.

Unfortunately, it was dampened by the slight movement of the target’s hand.

Part of the sturdy chains wrapped around the stone golems detached. At insane speed and with the sound of rocks slicing through air, the heavy rock chairs whipped the arrows and deflected the attacks. After deflecting the attack, they flew back and reattached to the stone golem.

An awkward silence hung over the two of them as they noticed this.

Just then an idea sparked in Ragnar’s head. He quickly whispered it to his friend.

The two of them grabbed their arrows and took a few cautious steps forward, closing their distance to the goblins and reducing the difficulty of their aim.

They readied their weapons and fired at the goblins.

Their aim this time was on point, though the arrows struck non-vital parts of the goblins, not the core target.

Nevertheless, it still fulfilled the intended task.

As the arrows got closer, the chains wrapped around the golems detached and whipped at them.

This time, before they could return to the stone golems, Ragnar and Noah fired another round.

Two other chains detached from the stone golems.

"CHARGE!"

Ragnar barked at the golem in the middle, now partially free, only a single chain held its legs down, barely.

Heeding Ragnar’s command, the middle golem blasted forward, breaking the only chain holding its leg.

The stone golem closed the small distance between itself and the goblins in a single charge.

"SMASH!"

The stone golem raised and slammed its heavy fist into the head of one mysterious goblin.

The goblin’s head burst open, blood splattering on the ground as its lifeless body collapsed.

|| Your stone golem have slayed X1 Higher goblin spell caster, +67 XP ||

"Yes!" Ragnar rejoiced.

But the previously nonchalant goblins were now troubled.

"CHEEE!"

Their calm attitude broke completely after the death of their comrade. It was sudden.

The remaining four dispersed from their previous positions before the stone golem could attack.

"CHEE!"

One of them was unlucky and caught by the stone golem before it could escape. The stone golem smashed its head to bits.

Thanks to the disorderliness and the death of two goblins, Ragnar’s other golems were freed.

Ragnar quickly instructed them to charge and attack the remaining goblins.

STOMP!

SMASH!

"CHEE!"

The sounds of the golems moving and smashing rang out, accompanied by the cries of the goblins running for their lives.

The scene in this compartment became three goblins running and screaming, evading the powerful smashes of the relentless stone golems.

Noah and Ragnar watched the scene with excitement in their cold eyes.

Seeing the three helpless goblins cry and run around filled their hearts with joy, fulfilling their revengeful thoughts, and a dark satisfaction settled in their stomachs.

|| Your stone golem have slayed X1 Higher goblin spell caster, +67 XP ||

Another one of the two goblins was smashed to bits, leaving only two who ran.

Unfortunately, at that moment,

|| You’ve ran out of MP, stone golems would now be deactivated. || Onxy’s voice sounded in Ragnar’s head.

The glowing blue veins on the goblins turned faint and their movement came to an abrupt halt.

The chaos in the room died down immediately as the stomping and smashing sounds ceased.

The goblins who were running also halted to observe their immobile nemesis.

They were still not safe as Ragnar and Noah drew their swords and charged at them.

Ragnar located his opponent.

The goblin spell caster began uttering strange chants as it tried to save itself. But it was too late as Ragnar’s blade stabbed its head.

KICK!

Noah sent his opponent flying to the ground, disorienting its spell casting. He leaped toward its new position and stabbed his blade into its head before it could even tell what was going on.

As the last goblin fell to the ground, silence hung in the cave as Noah and Ragnar heaved sighs of relief.

The only sound in the cave at the moment was the cackling of wood burning on the fireplaces.

"That was close." Noah commended.

"Yeah," Ragnar nodded.

He turned to Noah and attempted to use [Power Inspection] to check the remaining status.

|| Skill activation failed due to insufficient MP. ||

’Sigh..’ Ragnar thought, ’Anyway, tonight’s mission is already over and successful, I can use the magic-gem later.’

With the help of Noah, both of them began digging into the skulls of the deceased goblins to fetch monster cores.

Thirty minutes later, they were done harvesting the goblins’ monster cores. It reached about five dozens in total.

After they were done harvesting, Ragnar intended to grab most of the good weapons used by the goblins, unfortunately he had no more available slots in his inventory.

The two of them left the cave afterwards with fulfillment in their hearts.
