CHAPTER 63: POWERLESS

The couple, although excited, still have to resolve their problems. Who can provide baby Jacob with a secure and loving home?

Naomi: Please I want to take care of my son. This is a mother’s responsibility for her children. I miss our son very much. I crave his presence in my life. He is the only happiness I currently have. I will do anything to have him back in my life.

Alpha Maxwell: Sweetie, can you provide him with security? You are going to marry Edison. Can he accept our son in your house? Would he be okay with that kind of situation?

Naomi: He should... or else there will be no wedding between him and me!

Alpha Maxwell: Then how about your father and your family? Can they accept our son in their midst?

Naomi: I will try to convince my father. If he accepts our son, everything will be fine.

Alpha Maxwell: Then do it. If you have already ironed things out on your end, you can have our son. But if the presence of our son in your house will only make things difficult for you... then it’s better that my aunt in the countryside takes care of him. I would love to bring baby Jacob here but Deborah’s temper was the worst kind. She might intentionally harm our son because of her toxic attitude.

Naomi: I understand. Give me until tomorrow to talk with my father and Edison. I will get back to you after I’m done talking to them.

Alpha Maxwell: Alright, please do that, sweetie. Because if your place is not ready for baby Jacob, I will contact my aunt right away so she can prepare the house for our son’s arrival.

Naomi: OK. I’m so excited to see my baby again. I can’t wait to hold him in my arms!

Alpha Maxwell: Me too. I miss our son so much.

Naomi: I will leave the chat now ’coz I’m excited to talk to my father about it. Oh, damn, he’s already sleeping at this moment.

Alpha Maxwell: OK, we will just chat tomorrow. For now let’s go to sleep, sweetie. I love you. Goodnight, sweet dreams.

Naomi: I love you so much! Night night. Bye.

The couple stopped chatting and went to sleep.

...

The following day at the Greene family mansion, Naomi woke up early, excited to talk to her father. She must talk to him before he leaves the house to report to his office.

She went downstairs to the kitchen and made herself a cup of chocolate coffee, then waited in the living room for her father.

He came down the stairs, went to the kitchen to get his coffee and joined her in the living room.

"Good morning, Dad!" she greeted him cheerily.

Alpha Thomas raised a brow. "Morning, you look happy today? Are you excited about your upcoming wedding?" he asked, observing her face.

"Honestly, I’m not excited about the wedding. But don’t worry I already agreed to the wedding. You can no longer hear any protests from me," she assured him.

"Oh, what made you change your mind? As far as I know you don’t like marrying Edison, so what’s changed? Tell me?" he asked curiously.

"Um, because the facility will finally return my son to my care. My son and I will be reunited again soon. I’m so happy because I can see him again!" she gushed in elation.

Alpha Thomas fell silent because he already knew what she was going to say next.

Naomi looked her father in the eyes. "Dad, I will agree to the wedding but I also need my son beside me. I want to raise him, which means he will also stay here in our house with me."

"No! I won’t accept that bastard child of yours, especially as he is the son of the enemy. I can’t accept the enemy’s offspring into my house!" Alpha Thomas flatly refused his daughter’s request.

"Dad, please understand that he is my son, my own flesh and blood, he is your grandson! Please don’t be cruel to my child. I need him in my life," she begged helplessly. Tears of desperation swarmed her eyes.

"My answer is still no! That bastard child of yours can never enter my house as long as I live. Do you understand?" He glowered at his daughter angrily, furious that she still kept insisting on the thing that was totally against his principles.

Naomi realized that she could never convince her father to accept her son, so she finally gave up and said, "If you can’t accept my son, I’m sure Edison will. We will have our own house and I can bring my son home. You no longer have anything to say about it."

Alpha Thomas shook his head. "Edison doesn’t have enough money to buy you a house. So I told him that after the wedding, he would stay here with us until he could afford to buy a house for his growing family. He has already accepted my offer. This house has many rooms. You can stay here as long as you want and raise your children with your husband — but that child of our enemy is not welcome here."

"But Dad please have mercy on my son!" she pleaded in despair. Her heart was filled with sorrow.

"Enough! End of the discussion!" Alpha Thomas stood up and left the living room, heading back to his room to get ready to report to his office.

Naomi was devastated and heartbroken, crying alone in the living room, complaining about her pathetic life. "This is so unfair!" she lamented over and over again.

A few minutes later, she finished crying. Her tears were useless. In the world of men, women like her who are weak and have no power and money in her name will never get what she wants in life. She doesn’t have the freedom to run her life. Men like her father and Edison will always have the upper hand and she will have no choice but to obey them.

It’s time to toughen up!

But more than ever, she needs to stay calm, pretend, plan and survive.

She desperately craves freedom and total control of her life.

Unfortunately her current situation won’t allow her that.

She went back to her room, lay on the bed and closed her eyes, allowing the inner peace to stabilize her turbulent emotions.

Even if Edison accepted her son, his father would never agree so she might as well give up convincing them. No use wasting her energy on a losing battle. She just had to give up.

Even though she decided not to cry anymore, fresh tears sprang from her eyes. It’s painful to give up her son, because as a mother she would never do such things. But she has no choice. She needs to inform Alpha Maxwell that he will be the one to take care of their son.

Such a painful decision to make!

Tears rolled down her face in torrents. She grabbed her phone and sent a text message to Alpha Maxwell informing him that her father wouldn’t accept baby Jacob into their house. After she finished texting, she gazed lovingly at her son’s photo, missing him so much.

Back at the Burke family mansion.

Alpha Maxwell received Naomi’s text message. He was very excited to take custody of their son.

He immediately told Grandma about baby Jacob’s situation.

"Grandma, the kidnappers will return our baby to us. Naomi and I decided she would take care of our son, but unfortunately, her father said no. I wanted to bring my son here, but we both knew it’s not possible. I have no choice but to send him away to be taken care of by Aunt Helen in the countryside because I’m sure my father would never allow my son to be seen around here," he said sadly.

Grandma’s eyes gleamed. She said, "Worry no more, my boy. You can still see your son every day if you want. Do you want to hear my suggestion?"

Alpha Maxwell’s forehead creased. "How? Tell me about it, Grams," he asked excitedly.

"If your father doesn’t want to accept baby Jacob, I can take care of him. We can hire a nanny to take care of him under my supervision. In short, your son can stay here with us and you can see and hold him every day. I’m very excited to see baby Jacob!" Grandma exclaimed in a thrilled voice.

Alpha Maxwell sighed. "The problem is not us, Grams. It’s my father — he will surely oppose our plan to keep baby Jacob here. That’s what I’m trying to say..."

"Worry no more, my boy. Your son and your father don’t have to see and interact with each other. This property is huge and the bungalow house was recently renovated. I’m willing to live there with a nanny and baby Jacob. This way, your father doesn’t have to see baby Jacob every day. Problem solved!" Grandma smiled brightly.

Alpha Maxwell grinned, pleased to hear such a brilliant idea. "Indeed, it’s the most effective way to solve my problem with my son. Then let’s inform everyone about our plan."

"Alright, I’ll gather everyone in the living room. We need to discuss this important matter." Grandma rose to her feet and left the room.
