Carlotta's Daily Report
Chapter 115: Even dogs are attacking
CHAPTER 115: EVEN DOGS ARE ATTACKING
What was that noise?
Victor was immediately frightened. As a Listener, his perception of magical power was much deeper than that of an apprentice. When he sensed the incredibly dense magical energy around him, he felt an overwhelming sense of danger enveloping his entire body.
This ship harbored great danger, great terror!
Without a second thought, Victor immediately controlled his Thunderwing Bird to carry him into the sky, trying to distance himself from the ship.
Just as he took flight, beams of blue light shot up from the Moonlight, rapidly converging into a massive blue sphere. A destructive aura emanated from the sphere, seeming capable of crushing everything around it.
As soon as Victor took off, he realized it might have been better not to. Flying only brought him closer to the emerging blue sphere, making him feel as if he had fallen into a trap, his heart turning ice-cold.
He roared, conjuring a bone shield in front of him while commanding the Thunderwing Bird to retreat quickly, trying to distance himself from the blue sphere.
By then, the blue sphere had gathered enough magical power. With a deafening roar, it shot a brilliant blue beam towards Victor’s direction, illuminating the vast sky and earth in a glowing blue light, as if the world was now dominated by this single beam of radiance.
Victor wanted to dodge, but it was too fast, and he was too close.
In less than the blink of an eye, the azure beam struck in front of Victor. Without the slightest resistance, it pierced through his bone shield, brutally tearing through his body. Everything below his chest and abdomen vanished instantly.
"How... how could this happen?"
Victor truly never imagined he would end up like this. With shock and unwillingness, he plummeted from the sky, crashing onto the deck of the Moonlight with a loud thud, dead on the spot.
"This is the Moon God Cannon, a strike that gathers most of the Moonlight’s magical power."
Inside the cabin, Carlotta murmured softly.
With Victor’s death, the Moon Step Wolf that had been attacking her earlier also fell, reverting back to a lifeless corpse.
On the other side, the Diamond Eagle fighting Amelia also collapsed.
The plan had succeeded.
...
On the riverbank, Matteo and Vilan were stunned, never expecting such a turn of events. That was Victor, a peak tier Listener, killed by a group of apprentices?
Although the apprentices had used an alchemical ship to achieve this, it was still a horrifying outcome.
If Victor could die, then they... could die too.
"Let’s go, we can’t deal with them anymore."
Matteo was filled with bitterness and regret.
If he hadn’t been intimidated and withdrawn in the valley earlier, would the situation have been different?
After all, if he had just stalled them for a bit, Victor and Vilan would have arrived soon, and together they could have taken down these apprentices without giving them any chance.
But now, it is too late for any of that.
"Let’s go."
Vilan also looked panicked and turned to leave.
As they entered the forest, the two split up, fearing that Carlotta and the others might pursue them, so they decided to separate.
In fact, as they fled, the Moonlight surged towards the riverbank, and soon Carlotta and the others landed.
Amelia waved her hand, storing the Moonlight in the Ten Heart Pearl, and said seriously, "They’ve split up and fled."
"These guys are already enemies. If we can deal with them, don’t let them escape. Let’s end this today."
Carlotta was very decisive.
The sky was growing brighter, with millions of rays of light illuminating Sky Island.
It wasn’t easy for someone to escape; the traces left behind would be clearly visible, and the fugitives wouldn’t have time to erase them.
Carlotta said, "I’ll pursue the early tier Listener, Amelia, you handle the middle tier Listener."
"No problem."
Amelia nodded.
She trusted Carlotta’s strength; there would be no issues. To her, Carlotta was an incredibly formidable person.
As for herself, there would be no problem either, since she had the Moonlight. Even if they weren’t on the river, she could still use it, and its lethality remained astonishing.
The two didn’t say much, as they were in a hurry. After confirming their respective targets, they set off in pursuit.
Mia was momentarily stunned but eventually followed Amelia without hesitation. Amelia, with the Moonlight, made her feel more secure.
On Sky Island, the forest was dense with thorns, shrubs, and vines everywhere, presenting a very primitive scene.
The roars of magical creatures echo from all directions, adding to the wild atmosphere.
Carlotta, holding the Rose Cross, quickly pursued, keeping an eye on the traces left behind to ensure she wouldn’t lose her target. However, as an early tier Listener, her target was hard to catch once he started running.
"If only I had a speed card infused with Wind God Stone already."
Carlotta muttered to herself.
Soon, she passed through a stretch of forest and came upon a vast, open grassland.
This lifted her spirits, and she immediately took out a carriage card, leaped onto it, and used a Lightness Card to reduce the carriage’s weight, allowing it to move quickly.
She had prepared this card before entering Sky Island, using ordinary Wind Speed Stones. Although not the best, it was still faster than her own running speed and could be quite effective in suitable terrain.
The carriage sped forward, cutting through the cold wind, the sound of the metal horse’s hooves echoing far and wide.
Before long, Carlotta spotted a corpse on the ground and couldn’t help but smile slightly.
Vilan, who was ahead, occasionally encountered magical creatures. These creatures wouldn’t ignore Vilan, and in their entanglement, even if Vilan could win, he would still be delayed.
Meanwhile, Carlotta, following Vilan’s path, encountered no obstacles.
"Roar!"
After a while, roars came from ahead, indicating a battle was taking place.
Carlotta placed an Eagle Eye Card over her eyes and clearly saw Vilan being surrounded by a group of magical creatures. Although the creatures were low level and too weak for Vilan, they still managed to delay him.
It was a pack of Cloud Hoof Dogs, large and ferocious-looking, but surprisingly agile, making it hard for Vilan to shake them off.
Vilan, following the knight’s path, grew frustrated with the entanglement and roared, charging into the pack with his sword. Wherever he went, limbs were severed, and blood splattered, creating a particularly gruesome scene.
As more and more Cloud Hoof Dogs fell, the remaining ones finally felt fear and retreated.
But Vilan couldn’t smile; he saw a carriage approaching rapidly.
The carriage sped forward, the sound of hooves echoing, the wheels leaving two clear tracks in the grass along the way, carrying a sense of solemnity.
The carriage curtain was lifted, and Carlotta gazed ahead, gripping the Rose Cross tightly in her hand.
She wasn’t being careless. After all, her opponent was still an early listener, and she was still only an eighth-tier apprentice. It wouldn’t be to underestimate others too much.
As the carriage approached, Carlotta leaped out, and the large carriage immediately transformed into a card that landed in her hand, which she then put away.
"Did you come alone?"
Vilan looked at Carlotta, his expression turning subtly again.
"Isn’t one enough? You know who I am."
Carlotta swung her sword and charged directly at him.
Vilan said in a deep voice, "Of course I know you. The leader of the Moonlight Adventurer Group, who defeated Spencer. But I’m not like Spencer, who was more adept at assassination. I’m better at head-on confrontations!"
Seeing Carlotta charging at him, Vilan also swung his sword and attacked, a fierce aura rushed towards her.
"Bang!"
"Bang bang bang bang!"
Their weapons collided heavily, producing a series of crisp sounds. From the very beginning, it was an extremely intense exchange, with sparks flying from the collisions.
"Is there a possibility that head-on confrontations are easier for me to handle?"
Carlotta smiled slightly.
She had already fused various elven melodies, continuously displaying exquisite attacks, completely suppressing Vilan.
This situation was utterly shocking to Vilan. He could hardly believe he was fighting an eighth-tier apprentice. How could an eighth-tier apprentice be so outrageous?
Every collision felt exceptionally heavy, his sword almost slipped from his hand, his palms growing numb.
’Why are her attacks so exquisite? Is this the Elven Knight path? Can Elven Knight paths be used so exquisitely?’
Vilan felt as if he was facing someone who had practiced Elven Knight paths for decades, but the other party was clearly just a young girl. She shouldn’t have such outrageous control.
He didn’t understand, only knowing that his situation was really bad. If this continues, he will fall just like Spencer.
Spencer’s fall was one thing, but if he fell, it would be certain death!
But how could he turn this situation around?
He didn’t see Amelia, knowing she had probably gone after Matteo. Although it sounded outrageous for a ninth-tier apprentice to chase a middle tier Listener, the other party had an alchemy ship.
By the river, Vilan had seen that the alchemy ship was taken out by Amelia.
Amelia would likely be difficult for even Matteo to handle, so waiting for Matteo’s help was out of the question. This guy in front of him had to be dealt with by himself.
Thinking this, Vilan couldn’t help but cry.
He felt so wronged. Discovering the wind stone mine was supposed to be a great thing for their Meyer Adventurer Group, but just three apprentices had completely changed the course of events.
The leader was dead, and he was left alone in a crisis. Why was he so unlucky?
One sad thought after another surfaced in Vilan’s heart, causing large teardrops to uncontrollably fall from his eyes.
He knew this was Carlotta’s influence. As she swung her sword, mournful sounds would continuously surface, like an elegy, making one feel deeply troubled.
He knew of the Elven Elegy, but when others used it, they could only exert the elegy’s effect and couldn’t do anything else.
But what was with this girl? While using the Elven Elegy, she was still fiercely attacking him, and every other Carlotta could carry the effect of the Elven Elegy. Was she even human?
He couldn’t keep fighting!
Knowing the situation was bad for him, Vilan seized an opportunity to retreat, quickly fleeing into the distance.
"Did I say you could leave?"
Carlotta followed like a shadow, the Rose Cross gleaming coldly in her hand, chasing Vilan, forcing him to run while defending, or else he would be pierced through in no time.
Their chase didn’t last long before a roar sounded ahead.
"Awoo!"
The group of Cloud Hoof Dogs appears again, and among them, one particularly massive Cloud Hoof Dog, as large as a bear, exuding the aura of a Listener.
This Cloud Hoof Dog had mostly yellow fur, with only its four legs being white. It ran quickly, quickly closing in and biting at Vilan.
This scene made Vilan’s face turn green. He never expected that in this life-and-death moment, a monster would attack him. Was it seeking revenge for the many Cloud Hoof Dogs he had killed earlier? But those Dogs had attacked him first.
Reasoning with a monster was clearly useless. Vilan had to deal with Carlotta and the Cloud Hoof Dog simultaneously, inevitably becoming flustered, with wounds appearing on his body from time to time, blood flowing, bringing a stinging pain.
Carlotta also didn’t expect a monster to suddenly intervene, but this wasn’t bad for her. This monster was practically her teammate.
But soon, Carlotta dismissed that thought. Monsters could never be teammates, because just as she was fiercely attacking Vilan, the Cloud Hoof Dog leader inexplicably turned and attacked at her.
Luckily, she was quick on her feet, dodging with a few swift movements, or else she would have been in trouble.
The Cloud Hoof Dog leader missed its bite and turned to attack Vilan again, as Vilan had the blood of its kin on him, making him the primary target.
This was a full-blown three-way melee. Carlotta had no intention of standing by and watching. She charged back in, keeping her distance from the Cloud Hoof Dog leader, focusing her attacks on Vilan.
Under the combined assault of the girl and the beast, Vilan had no chance of turning the tide. In no time, Carlotta’s sword beheaded him, and he died with resentment.
As Vilan’s body fell to the ground, Carlotta and the Cloud Hoof Dog leader looked at each other. After a few seconds, they clashed. Humans and monsters had no possibility of coexistence.
This battle was even harder than fighting Vilan alone. Carlotta used all her skills, finally managing to kill the Cloud Hoof Dog leader after much effort. She then slaughtered the surrounding Cloud Hoof Dogs until none remained, before turning to look back the way she came.
