Chef at the University Canteen
Chapter 33: No Matter How Delicious, Don’t Overeat
CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: NO MATTER HOW DELICIOUS, DON’T OVEREAT
"One basket of buns and a bowl of soup, please!"
"Give me three baskets of soup-filled buns and a bowl of soup! I missed dinner yesterday because I was late, I need to make up for it today!"
"I’ll have two baskets and two bowls of soup, I’m, I’m carrying them for someone else!"
"..."
The shop had just started its business for the day, and the students who had rushed over early in the morning to line up couldn’t wait to pay and place their orders. They then grabbed their steaming baskets of soup-filled buns and hot and sour soup, found an empty seat, and began to devour the food in large bites.
"No need to rush, take it one at a time, we’re open until 9."
Hu Zhihai said kindly as he brought over a batch of freshly steamed soup-filled buns from the pot, reminding everyone,
"The soup-filled buns are delicious, but don’t overeat. Everyone should eat according to their own capacity; eating too much isn’t good for your stomach."
"Don’t worry, if I can’t eat anymore, I won’t force it down."
A student in line replied with a smile, "No matter how delicious something is, if you eat too much, it stops tasting good."
His words had just fallen when there was a sudden exclamation from not far away:
"Oh crap! Are you okay, buddy?"
The noisy crowd fell silent for a moment, and everyone turned their heads to look.
In the corner of the cafeteria hall, a tall boy was now sweating profusely, holding his stomach in pain as he said:
"I, my stomach hurts a lot!"
On the table in front of him were three small steaming baskets and a soup bowl.
However, the three baskets and the soup bowl were all empty.
"Hey buddy, what’s wrong? Are you alright?"
Upon hearing the news, Jiang Yu made his way through the crowd with a concerned look, reaching out to support the tall boy,
"Don’t worry, I’ll take you to the school hospital right now!"
Lu Shuwu, who had also hurried over, quickly stepped forward and helped Jiang Yu support the boy out of the cafeteria, heading towards the school hospital.
Once they left, the students who were stunned by the earlier scene came back to life with a "boom" and started to chatter:
"Oh crap! I was just standing next to him, he was eating just fine, then suddenly ’ow’ and he almost fainted while holding his stomach!"
"I saw it too! I saw it too! I watched big beads of sweat pop out on his forehead, and in a blink, it was covered. Imagine how much that must have hurt!"
"Aren’t you stating the obvious? If it didn’t hurt, would his face have turned so pale? I was scared to death!"
"Hey, he got like this by eating soup-filled buns and hot and sour soup. Could there be something wrong with the buns and soup?"
"What are you thinking? So many people ate the soup-filled buns and hot and sour soup. If there were something wrong, why would it only affect him?"
"Exactly! We’ve been eating this for days, everyone’s fine, but he’s the only one with an issue, and now you think there’s something wrong with the buns and soup?"
"Ahem, that’s not what I meant, I was just saying..."
"..."
Meanwhile, Jiang Yu and Lu Shuwu supported the tall boy into the school hospital.
It had just passed 7 AM, and the doctors at the school hospital hadn’t started their shift yet, but there was a doctor on duty in the duty room.
Upon hearing the commotion, the duty doctor hurried out and had Jiang Yu and the others bring the boy into the consultation room.
Once they got the boy seated in a chair, Jiang Yu briefly explained the situation to the doctor:
"Doctor, here’s what happened. This student was eating in the cafeteria, and suddenly his stomach started hurting badly, so we quickly brought him here."
"Alright, I understand."
The doctor nodded, then reached out towards the boy’s abdomen:
"Where does it hurt? Here?"
"No."
"Then is it here?"
"Ah! Yes, it’s here! It hurts a lot!"
The doctor nodded, seeming to have an idea, and asked:
"Do you usually have three meals a day on time?"
"Uh, not really. I can’t get up in the morning, so I often skip breakfast. For lunch and dinner, I usually eat in the cafeteria when I’m hungry, not very regularly."
"Does your stomach also hurt often?"
"It does, but it usually only hurts briefly, not like today where it hurts so much."
"Alright, what did you eat this morning?"
"I had, I had three baskets of soup-filled buns and a large bowl of hot and sour soup."
Lu Shuwu, who had been standing quietly on the side, couldn’t help but blurt out:
"Damn! You really can eat, can’t you?
Three baskets of soup buns, that’s 24 buns! And you could still drink an entire large bowl of thick soup!
Do you have a cow’s stomach or something?!"
The doctor frowned, glanced at Lu Shuwu, then turned back to the boy, saying seriously:
"You often skip breakfast and eat irregularly for the other two meals. Your stomach is already not in great condition. Eating so much at once, can your stomach handle it?
No matter how delicious the food is, you shouldn’t eat so much at once!"
"Doctor, I was wrong, I won’t dare to do it again next time."
The tall boy lowered his head obediently, admitting his mistake.
The doctor shook his head in resignation. Young people these days just don’t know how to take care of their bodies.
They stubbornly overindulge when they’re young, and when they get older and have problems, it’s too late to regret it.
After a while, the doctor brought over a cup of warm water with some unspecified medicine in it and handed it to the tall boy:
"You’ve mainly eaten too much, your stomach is distended and painful. This is an emetic, drink it and then go to the bathroom to vomit it out; it will hurt less after that.
After you throw up, come back here. Emetics are tough on the stomach, so I’ll prescribe some medication for stomach protection, which you must take on time.
Also, over the next few days, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and don’t eat raw or cold foods. Drink some rice porridge and eat some vegetables to nourish your stomach."
"Okay."
The tall boy nodded obediently and took the cup, drinking the contents in one gulp.
Seeing this, Jiang Yu and Lu Shuwu quickly supported him and took him to the bathroom.
It wasn’t long after they arrived in the bathroom that the medicine took effect, and the tall boy bent over the toilet, vomiting hard.
After a good while, when it was quiet again inside, Jiang Yu went back in and helped him out.
After taking him to the doctor to get the medicine, Jiang Yu and Lu Shuwu supported the tall boy out of the school hospital.
"Which dorm are you in? Should I take you back to your room to rest?"
Leaving the school hospital, Jiang Yu looked at the tall boy, who was visibly better, and said,
"If you want to go to the cafeteria for some porridge or something, I can take you there too."
"No, it’s alright. My stomach doesn’t hurt much now, I can walk by myself."
The tall boy shook his head, turning to look at Jiang Yu with an embarrassed expression,
"I’m really sorry, boss. I was in so much pain in the cafeteria that I couldn’t even speak. But I’m worried the other students might misunderstand that it was the buns and soup that weren’t clean. Should I go explain to them now?"
"It’s fine. You’re not the only one who ate the buns and soup. If they were unclean, everyone would have a stomachache."
Jiang Yu laughed as he said,
"You’ve just thrown up, and your stomach is empty. It’s best to drink some porridge to nourish it.
Also, don’t eat so much at once next time. Don’t forget the pain once the scar heals."
"Got it. I’ll remember. Thanks, boss."
The tall boy nodded, said goodbye to Jiang Yu and the others, and turned to leave.
