Chapter 1: Get Rid of This Child
CHAPTER 1: CHAPTER 1: GET RID OF THIS CHILD
Ruby Sullivan clutched the pregnancy test result in her hand, her fingers turning slightly pale, overwhelmed with uncontrollable joy in her heart.
She was pregnant.
Married to Ethan Sterling for three years, she had never conceived in that time.
She knew why—Ethan Sterling was unwilling to touch her.
Because she was overweight.
At a height of 166 cm and weighing 180 pounds, any part of her body seemed to ooze oil at a pinch. No man would want to be near her.
But she didn’t expect that a month ago, Ethan Sterling came home drunk, and amidst the ensuing confusion, they actually had relations. Even more unexpected, she was so lucky that in just one night, she conceived a baby!
If she had this child, perhaps Ethan would not reject her so much anymore.
She couldn’t wait to tell Ethan Sterling the news and quickened her pace. With a sweet smile, Ruby Sullivan opened the door and entered.
The spacious hall was empty, and she trembled slightly as she proceeded to walk upstairs.
At the corner, a tall figure, wrapped in a black bathrobe, was standing with his back to her, his fingers delicately holding a glass of water, like white jade immersed in clear water.
Ruby Sullivan was delighted, and carefully stepped forward, calling gently, "Ethan"
"Ethan"
Two different female voices mingled, forming an eerie symphony. Ruby Sullivan’s expression froze, and the next second, her sister emerged from the bedroom wearing her husband’s bathrobe.
With a loud bang, Ruby Sullivan felt her world spinning, a thunderbolt shattering her thoughts into pieces.
Her hand suddenly slackened, and the paper fluttered to the ground.
Ethan Sterling, hearing the voice, turned his head, his gaze landing on the large words "Pregnancy Test" with an unfamiliar coldness.
"You’re pregnant?"
No surprise, no happiness—only loathing and unconcealed hatred in the man’s eyes.
The last bit of Ruby Sullivan’s hopeful fantasy was shattered.
Back when Ethan Sterling married her due to outside pressure, how could she naïvely think that knowing she was pregnant would make him happy?
However, the next moment revealed to her the true meaning of despair.
The man looked indifferently at the trembling woman, his thin lips barely moving, "Ruby Sullivan, do you want your child to live a life like yours, fat and greasy, ridiculed by others? Get rid of this child!"
"What did you say?" Ruby Sullivan looked at him in disbelief.
The man furrowed his dashing brows slightly, "I said, the child cannot stay!"
"Cannot stay? Then who can stay? Her?!" Ruby Sullivan’s body shook with anger, pointing at Rhonda Sullivan, her eyes reddened with rage, "Ethan Sterling, how can you do this? Even if she is my father’s adopted child and we have no blood relation, I’ve called her sister for over twenty years! How can you treat me like this?"
The man remained silent, his gaze cold and unyielding.
Ruby Sullivan’s heart shattered piece by piece, then she heard her voice, calm and grief-stricken, "Ethan Sterling, if you want me to get rid of this child, it will only happen over my dead body."
The next second, she got up, stumbling as she ran downstairs, her flesh quivering with every excited step, looking both ridiculous and pathetic.
Ethan Sterling’s frown deepened; he recalled this might be the first time she disobeyed him so explicitly. Instinctively, he wanted to chase after her.
But before he could move, Rhonda Sullivan suddenly grabbed his hand, hurriedly saying, "Ethan, you just had a fight. Don’t go after her, I’ll go find sister and talk to her."
Ethan Sterling’s steps halted.
Ruby Sullivan had just rushed out of the courtyard when she heard the sound of footsteps behind her, sparking a small glimmer of hope—perhaps Ethan still cared about her.
But when she turned her head, she was stunned.
