CHAPTER 108: CHAPTER 108: A STRONG BOSS LADY IS NEEDED

Ethan Sterling held Ruby Sullivan’s hand, smiling slightly as if he couldn’t see her scowling face. Ruby stared straight ahead, like a lifeless robot, making the atmosphere in the car extremely eerie. Howard glanced back but dared not say anything, focusing on driving.

Halfway through the drive, Ruby suddenly asked Howard to take them to the place where she was renting.

Through the rearview mirror, Howard saw Ethan nod, and only then did he change the route.

Ruby took in these details, unable to suppress a cold laugh.

So, as Mrs. Sterling, she didn’t even have the right to decide where to go.

Along the way, Ruby thought about many things, but in the end, it all came down to one question mark: if all this was Ethan’s meticulous scheme, was it really all for this reversal-style marketing? Sacrificing the Sterling Family’s reputation, wasn’t it too foolish?

In her wild thoughts, the car stopped downstairs. She got out, lifting her trailing long dress, carefully walking forward in her high heels. Ethan followed in just a few steps, first taking the hem of her dress from her hand, then offering his arm.

Ruby paused, looking at his thoughtfulness, but ultimately didn’t rest her hand on his, "No one is watching here, you don’t have to act." With that, she continued to walk slowly ahead.

Ethan’s expression darkened, keeping pace with her, saying nothing, as if he didn’t care about Ruby’s mockery at all.

When they got home, both changed into loungewear silently and sat opposite each other on the sofa; only then did Ruby show a hint of wanting to talk.

"Did Rhonda Sullivan dare to make such a fuss with your consent?"

Ethan nodded, not wanting to deny it.

"Why?"

"You make me a little unhappy." His tone was indifferent, and he spoke plainly, as if it wasn’t something worth hiding.

Ruby nodded, thinking of the grievances she’d suffered these days, and it took a while to digest his nonchalant look, "I’m tired." She got up, not sparing Ethan another glance.

"Do you regret marrying me?" Ethan maintained a faint smile on his face, looking at the spot where Ruby had just sat, his voice equally faint.

Ruby didn’t know if it was her imagination, but she seemed to hear a trace of unease in his indifferent voice. Quickly, she laughed at herself; if this wasn’t just a delusion, what was it? For him to ask, it was just like watching a show.

She released a long breath unconsciously, as if relieved after deciding to be honest, "Yes." With that, she went into the bathroom, intending to shower quickly and get some sleep.

After tonight, regardless of how their marriage would continue, she had made up her mind; Ethan was a man without a heart, and if he had one, it wasn’t for her. To her, he only had disgust and revenge.

Ethan watched her lonely back, his brows tightly knit together. This was the answer he had guessed, yet hearing it from her mouth still made his heart sink, feeling not only discontent and anger but also an indescribable emotion—a truly terrible feeling.

In an almost instantaneous impulse, he sprang from the sofa, rushed into the bathroom behind her, and pressed her against the wall, "Ruby Sullivan, it’s too late to regret now!"

...

When Ruby opened her eyes, she felt like her body was falling apart.

She sat up slowly, rubbed her hair, and was about to get out of bed when Ethan wrapped an arm around her neck and pulled her back onto the bed.

"Stay with me a little longer." He mumbled somewhat unclearly.

During his time abroad, his insomnia had worsened, and although he drank twice as much as before, he still couldn’t sleep. Last night, not even a dream disturbed him. He wondered whether it was due to sheer exhaustion or the presence of a warm body beside him.

He was unwilling to delve deeper.

Resigned, Ruby lay down, thought for a moment, and finally brought up a topic that was awkward for both of them, "Rhonda Sullivan said she’s pregnant, is it true or false?"

Ethan lifted his eyelids, thinking she wasn’t good at chatting, "Sleep."

Ruby snorted coldly, "Not denying means it’s true?"

Ethan sighed; he really wanted to continue sleeping, "If it’s true, I will take care of it."

"So you guys have indeed... done that recently?" Ruby avoided looking at him, afraid she might get angry.

"Aren’t women too good at focusing on tricky points?" Ethan, finally stirred awake by her pestering, half-awake, "Theoretically, when I’m single, if I have intimate relations with any woman, there’s no need for me to explain it to you, right?"

Ruby laughed, "Even if you’re not single, you don’t have to explain. We got married so you could successfully acquire The Sullivan Group and I could take back The Sullivan Group. In such a simple interest-based cooperation, there’s no need to complicate things."

Ethan slightly furrowed his brow, yet responded in a teasing tone, "Agreed."

The sound of these two words was piercing to her ears, so she got up and left the bed, no longer in the mood to accompany him to sleep.

Watching her get dressed and leave, Ethan turned over in a huff, punching the pillow several times, as if the discomfort with the pillow was to blame for being woken up.

Unexpectedly, shortly afterwards, he heard the sound of the door opening. Hastily wrapping himself in the blanket, he ran out of the room to see, only to catch sight of Ruby closing the door behind her and leaving, without having had a chance to say a word.

Frustrated and annoyed, Ethan immediately called Howard, "Send someone to follow her closely."

"Yes," Howard agreed, unable to suppress a yawn.

His girlfriend looked at him with sleepy eyes and couldn’t help but complain, "Are you really not considering a job change?"

Howard kissed her, "Just hang in there for a bit. I believe the dawn of victory is ahead."

"You’re talking about your boss’s romantic affairs?"

"Exactly."

His girlfriend rolled her eyes in mockery, "Do you think this is some kind of idol drama where everything ends happily with love? Guys like your boss don’t even know how to date."

"No worries, having a strong boss’s wife is enough." Howard finished relaying work on WeChat, turned, and hugged his girlfriend to continue sleeping.

In his understanding, his boss indeed had less knowledge in romance than a school kid, but who doesn’t learn to be loved before they learn to love? He believed his boss had potential.

Ruby parked her car, glanced at Levi Joyce’s message, and found his rehearsal room.
