CHAPTER 388: CHAPTER 388: MAKING A CHOICE

In the long silence, Ruby Sullivan’s hand gradually broke out in a cold sweat, and her heart became flustered.

As Howard said, if she doesn’t make a choice, continuing Nirvana is nothing but wishful thinking. She didn’t know how much this call could salvage, but she could only try.

Finally, a lazy voice from L came through the phone, "Are you joking?"

This was Dr. L, who forces you to a dead end, tramples you underfoot, and you have to bow and concede. However, whether he gives you a way out still depends on his mood.

Humiliating images suddenly emerged in Ruby Sullivan’s mind, causing her to clench her teeth.

"You tampered with the suppliers, weren’t you just waiting for me to make this call?" she chuckled, "Master, did you think I’d fly straight to Bellaza to beg you?"

"Nirvana isn’t worth me spending that much to defeat," L replied coldly, after hearing her words.

Ruby Sullivan was surprised, "All overseas suppliers recently cooperating with Nirvana refused to continue, wasn’t that your doing?"

"You know I don’t like answering the same question."

Ruby Sullivan was stunned, not expecting such a reply from the call, unsure how to respond for a moment. So, was all of this Ethan Sterling’s doing? Would he go to any length to see her fail and suffer?

"So, you’re asking me to let you off?" L teased after she didn’t respond, "Wenny, I didn’t expect you to underestimate me, that’s my mistake."

Ruby Sullivan came back to her senses, "Master, I never underestimated you. I just didn’t expect you to use the despicable means you use on others on me, that’s my mistake. Sorry, I didn’t understand the situation."

L noticed she was about to hang up the phone and hastily stopped her, "Wait a moment."

"Anything else?"

"Heard your cooperation with Alex has stalled, need help?"

"No need."

"Alright, I still like your arrogant attitude. The Lawson Group’s door is always open for you. Whenever Nirvana can’t continue, you’re always welcome back."

"Thanks." Ruby Sullivan hung up the phone, unable to discern whether his tone was sarcastic or extending an olive branch.

She hadn’t thought she could feel lost again after going through so much life and death.

Ruby Sullivan decided to visit The Sterling Group. With this thought, she had already left the company but hadn’t anticipated being stopped in the lobby.

The young receptionist didn’t recognize her. Without finding an appointment, she didn’t let her through, "Sorry, ma’am, to see Mr. Sterling you must make an appointment in advance."

Ever since the news spread that Ethan Sterling was single again, every day socialites sought unexpected encounters with Mr. Sterling at The Sterling Group. Truly, the saying "bad men are loved by women" is not false; a challenging man like Ethan Sterling always attracts women wanting to be his special someone.

In the young receptionist’s eyes, this woman claiming to be "Wenny" was one of those women, so naturally, she wouldn’t let her through.

Ruby Sullivan didn’t intend to force her way in; she had called Ethan Sterling before coming, but the call was cut off. She thought perhaps he wasn’t in the company and wanted to check directly.

Seeing the receptionist’s lack of flexibility, she had to call Ethan Sterling again, but was again cut off.

This time, Ruby Sullivan was truly exasperated. She glanced at the waiting receptionist and decided to ignore her, heading straight for the elevator.

The receptionist’s expression also changed. Lately, she had encountered such incidents several times. The supervisor had warned that if a woman without an appointment got into the Sterling Group, her salary would be docked.

She called out to Ruby and quickly got up to chase after her, "Hey, ma’am, if you proceed, I’ll have to call security!"

Ruby Sullivan quickened her pace to the elevator, waiting anxiously for it to open. Hearing the ding, her arm was already grabbed by the receptionist.

"What’s wrong with you? I told you no entry means no entry. Without an appointment, you’d be kicked out by security anyway, why bother?" The young receptionist was annoyed.

"If I’m kicked out by security, I’ll deserve it. Just let me go up, okay?" Ruby Sullivan was also frustrated.

She had come purely on impulse. If she left today unresolved, she didn’t know if she’d have the courage to confront Ethan Sterling again.

At this moment, Lucy Larkin emerged from the just-opened elevator door and, hearing their argument, glanced back, "Wenny?"

Ruby Sullivan saw a familiar face, and immediately breathed a sigh of relief, "Lucy, is Ethan Sterling in the office?"

"He is, I just finished a meeting with him." Lucy replied, looking at the receptionist, who finally let go of Ruby’s arm promptly.

Ruby Sullivan smiled, "Thanks."

The receptionist was worried, turning to catch up with Lucy, "Director Larkin, who is this woman? If there’s any blame, my salary could be docked."

Lucy, eager to meet someone outside, continued walking without stopping, "Mr. Sterling’s ex-wife."

"Mr. Sterling’s ex-wife?" The receptionist stiffened, almost tearful. If she remembered correctly, Miss Jennings had gone up and not yet come down. If they ran into each other...

The secretaries all recognized Ruby Sullivan, so once she got upstairs, she moved unhindered straight to the CEO’s office, only to be stopped by Snow outside.

Ruby Sullivan smirked, "You’re not going to ask me for an appointment, too, are you?"

Snow laughed, "Miss Wenny, don’t joke. It’s just, there’s a guest in the CEO’s office right now, and seeing him might be a bit inconvenient."

"Then I’ll wait here." After saying that, Ruby Sullivan sat on a nearby bench.

Snow couldn’t say more. She could only use the intercom to inquire about Ethan Sterling’s preference, "Mr. Sterling, Wenny is in the outer hall and wants to see you."

"Let her in," Ethan Sterling responded calmly.

The girl opposite him couldn’t help but giggle after hearing this, "Meeting the ex-wife in front of the current girlfriend, wouldn’t that be awkward?"

"If you’re uncomfortable, you can wait in the small room inside for a while." Ethan Sterling focused on his work, not sparing the girl a glance, his face showing no extra emotion.

The girl raised an eyebrow, coquettishly insisting, "No, she has to know you’ve moved on, or she’ll keep pestering you. Jealousy is my thing."

Before the girl finished speaking, Ruby Sullivan entered, just in time to catch the words "jealousy is."

Ruby Sullivan frowned, not expecting to find another woman inside.

The woman turned to look at her, her big, round eyes especially captivating, and then she flashed a bright smile, "Hey, you must be Wenny, I’m Hannah Jennings, Ethan’s girlfriend."

Ruby Sullivan paused for a moment, quickly mirroring the smile, "Hello."

Ethan Sterling continued focusing on his work, a shadow flickering in his eyes, but he didn’t lift his gaze.

Ruby Sullivan walked briskly over, even though she saw he was working, she said directly, "Can you ask your little girlfriend to step out for a moment? I need to discuss something with you."

Hannah Jennings showed displeasure on her face, leaning in to ask with a smile, "I wonder if you’re here about personal or business affairs?"
