Chapter 342: Stupid Little Flip (3)
CHAPTER 342: STUPID LITTLE FLIP (3)
Georgia’s POV
When his lips touched mine, the whole world just... stopped. I forgot how to breathe. My heart tripped over itself, and instinct took over before reason could even blink. My eyes fluttered shut, and I found myself kissing him back.
It was slow at first—soft, tender, almost hesitant—like he was afraid I might push him away. But when I didn’t... when I leaned in and kissed him back, that was it. Something in him snapped. His arms tightened around me, his lips grew more desperate, and suddenly, I wasn’t just being kissed—I was remembering.
God, it felt right.
Our lips moved together like they’d done this a thousand times before. There was no hesitation, no awkwardness—just instinct, muscle memory, and emotion. His tongue brushed mine, and instead of pulling away, I leaned in closer. My fingers curled around his shirt, clutching it like I needed to hold on to something solid or I’d float away.
I didn’t understand it, but my heart did. It was like my body knew him even when my mind didn’t.
He broke the kiss only when air became a necessity, his forehead pressing against mine as we both caught our breath. And that’s when I felt it—something wet on my cheek.
When I opened my eyes, I saw his tears falling freely, tracing down his face.
My heart twisted painfully, and my hands moved on their own—caressing his arms, his back—trying to comfort him, trying to tell him without words
that he wasn’t alone. That even if I didn’t remember everything... I felt it. Him. Us.
"I’m so happy you’re back to me," he whispered, voice breaking between breaths. "I promise I’ll do better—at protecting you, at protecting our family. I was so scared of losing you, Georgia. I thought I was going to die."
His hands trembled as they cupped my face again. "Please don’t ever leave me. Even if you can’t remember me... please stay. Let me help you remember, or—hell—even if you never do, we’ll make new memories. I swear, I’ll do better this time. Just... just stay with me."
I didn’t even realize I was crying too until I felt the tears on my lips, mixing with his.
My mind was a storm of confusion, but my heart... my heart knew exactly what it wanted.
So I smiled, through my tears, and whispered back softly, "Then don’t ever stop reminding me."
My heart twisted painfully watching him like that—vulnerable, teary-eyed, practically pleading. It felt like he was laying everything he had on the line, like this was his last card to play. But oh, Nick... you are so wrong about that.
"Nick..." I whispered, my voice trembling as I reached out to cup his face. His skin was warm against my palms, his lashes damp from tears. I used my thumbs to wipe them away, and my chest tightened seeing how much he was holding in. He looked like a lost little boy—one who’d just found his way home but wasn’t sure if he was allowed to stay.
That sight alone was enough to make my own tears fall.
"I promise I’ll stay," I said softly, my voice shaking but sure. "As long as you stay loyal and faithful to me, I’ll stay. I’ll give us a chance. Let’s do what you said—help me recover my memories. And if they don’t come back..." I smiled through my tears, "Then let’s just make new ones."
I took a deep breath before continuing, my heart hammering. "Honestly, when I woke up, I was angry. The only thing I remembered about you was that you were a suspect in my brother’s case. But even then... I felt something else, too. Something that made no sense." I laughed softly, shaking my head.
"Like my heart already knew you and wanted you—even when my brain didn’t. It was infuriating, really. I was angrier at myself for forgetting you than at you for anything else."
I glanced down, embarrassed, then met his eyes again. "But then Ella told me stories. I saw the pictures, the videos... and I don’t know. It was enough to make me believe that whatever we had—it’s something worth fighting for. So, I will fight for it. And besides," I teased, grinning just a little, "I doubt I’d agree to marry you and have a child with you if you weren’t good to me, right?"
Nick let out a small laugh through his tears and quickly grabbed a tissue from the bedside table, gently dabbing at my cheeks like I was made of glass. "About that..." he started, smiling sheepishly. "The pregnancy wasn’t exactly part of the plan—at least not yet—because the wedding ceremony was supposed to be next week."
I blinked. "Wait, what?" My brows knitted together in confusion. "What do you mean, next week? Aren’t we married already?"
He looked like he was about to explain when a knock came at the door.
Perfect timing. Of course. Because why wouldn’t the universe interrupt when things were just getting interesting?
It was Dr. Kim, along with a nurse, who entered the room.
She looked at me and Nick, then back again, and the moment she saw our red, puffy eyes, her expression softened into something between pity and amusement.
Her gaze then landed on the food beside us, and I could almost see the understanding flicker in her eyes. "I’m sorry to disturb you both," she said gently, "but I just want to check the baby’s heartbeat one last time before I head home. And I realized... you haven’t heard your baby’s heartbeat yet since you woke up."
Her words instantly melted something in me. My baby’s heartbeat. Our baby’s heartbeat. The thought alone made my chest tighten with something I couldn’t even name.
Dr. Kim gestured for the nurse to move the table aside and help me lie down. "I need you to relax and lie back for a while," she said.
One nurse gently placed a blanket over my legs while another helped lift my hospital gown just enough to expose my belly.
"This might feel a bit cold," Dr. Kim warned before applying the gel. She wasn’t lying—it was cold, and I flinched.
I turned to look at Nick. His face was a mix of excitement, worry, and something tender that made my stomach flutter more than I’d ever admit. I reached out my hand to him instinctively. His eyes widened for a second, like he couldn’t believe I wanted to hold his hand—but he took it anyway.
And it just... felt right.
For a few seconds, there was nothing but static noise coming from the fetal doppler. The room was filled with quiet anticipation until Dr. Kim’s eyes lit up.
"I found it!" she said cheerfully. And then, there it was. The sound that made my heart stutter. A rapid thump-thump-thump, strong and steady, like tiny hooves galloping on a distant plain.
"That," Dr. Kim said, smiling, "is your baby’s heartbeat. A strong one, too. Looks like you’ve got one brave little fighter in there."
I looked at Nick—and oh, there he was again, getting misty-eyed. His lips trembled as he listened, tears welling up faster than he could blink them away.
I couldn’t help it. I playfully smacked his hand. "Nick! Don’t be such a crybaby. I’m the one with the hormones here, remember? You’re making me look bad," I teased.
The whole room burst out laughing, including Dr. Kim. Nick chuckled too, shaking his head with that boyish grin of his as he squeezed my hand tighter.
But in that moment, between the laughter and the sound of our baby’s heartbeat echoing through the room, I realized something...
Even if I didn’t have all my memories back yet, my heart already remembered what it felt like to love him.
"I also need to check the underpad before I go," Dr. Kim said, pulling the blanket up slightly for a quick peek. Her eyes widened, and she smiled. "Oh wow, it looks like the bleeding’s stopped. That’s fast. I think your baby was just waiting for Daddy to show up."
My eyes darted to Nick, whose proud grin was enough to make my cheeks heat up again. Great, now the doctor was giving him bragging rights.
Dr. Kim continued, "If there’s no more spotting for the next twenty-four hours, I’ll send you home. You’ll still be on bed rest, of course—only up for bathroom breaks, understood?"
I nodded obediently, but Nick wasn’t having it. "Isn’t it safer for her to stay here in the hospital?" he asked, frowning like he was ready to build a fortress around my bed.
Dr. Kim chuckled softly. "In some cases, yes. But for your wife, I think home would be better; she’ll be more comfortable there, which would help her recover faster. Being surrounded by familiar things and familiar people can help her memory recover as well. I’ll prepare the discharge papers and endorsement letters for your city doctor."
When Dr. Kim and the nurses left, I turned to Nick, arching a brow. "You don’t want me to go home?"
He immediately sat on the edge of the bed, taking my hand in his. "Of course I do. But the penthouse is a bit cramped right now, with everyone there. Don’t worry, I’ll tell the contractor to add more people so they can finish our house faster."
I blinked. Our house. That sounded... nice. Familiar, even. "Ella told me about what happened at my place," I said softly. "But let’s talk about the wedding. She didn’t mention anything about that." I squinted at him, suspicion lacing my tone. "Are you hiding something from your wife, Mr. Knight?"
