Secret 72

bChapter /bb72 /b

Aurora’s P.O.V

“You have a lot of questions, I can tell.” Caroline guided me back to the bed I had woken up in and helped me sit down. “And I promise to answer at many of them bas /bbI /bcan, but I need you to be open–minded about this, okay? Can you please do that for me?”

Open minded? I wanted tough so badly at everything that was happening. I was pretty sure I was either already dead or hallucinating.

Caleb could turn into an animal…a wolf! Caroline and her friends were all wolves. And even after what had happened in this very house…I still felt morefortable with Caroline, despite her admitting to being a wolf.

Either this was all just hallucination…or I was seriously losing my shit.

“Have I gone crazy?” I asked Caroline instead, watching her as she went to shut the door to give us privacy…or probably to kill me without anyone noticing.

“Of course not!” Caroline came forward to ce her hands on my shoulders. “I’m so sorry you feel this way. Caleb and I didn’t want to break the news to you like this…in this manner…but we never expected to find you in such terrible condition either. I’m sorry for everything you went through, Aurora and bI /bwish we could’ve recognized the signs sooner.”

But I shook my head and moved out of her grasp, almost falling back as my head spun, my vision turning nk for a second before it cleared. Nothing seemed to make sense anymore. I felt like I was walking a thin line between insanity and reality.

Humans turning into wolves? For God’s sake, how was that even biologically possible?

There was no anatomical simrity between a human and a wolf! No simrity between organ cements or bones and joints! Then howb…/bb? /bNothing fucking

made sense!

“Calm down, okay? You’re still healing, you need to rest.” Caroline urged, keeping her distance from me as bif /bbshe /bwas dealing with a wounded animal, which was ready to pounce on her.

Oh! The irony of my own thoughts!

But this time, I decided to listen to her for once. Because my head was starting to pound and I felt dizzy, weak. So I popped up against my pillows, letting myself rx my tense muscles, even though my mind kept telling me that this was all just a nightmare and when I would wake up, I would still be inside my house, beaten half to death and taken advantage of by my father’s people, and Caleb and his friends would just go back to being high school bullies that were in mean people and not…animals.

“How about I tell you a story instead?”

I looked up at Caroline then, watching her with narrowed eyes as she gave me a concerned look. She went to the opposite side of the room and sat down on a chair ced near the open window. The moon was almost full outside the window and I was actually startled at just how big it looked from here.

“What story?” I murmured, not having the strength or the will to fight with her.

A story about a time before the humans became civilized and used agriculture as a means of obtaining food.” Caroline spoke calmly, her voice soothing. b“/bbA /bstory about the gifts that the Gods and Goddesses bestowed upon usb./bb” /b

Gods? Goddessesb? /b

The thought itself was bso /bridiculous that I wanted tough. There were no Gods! There were no Goddesses! Just devils wearing human skin. Because if there had been Gods and deities in real life, so many of us wouldn’t suffer every single day, struggling to stay aliveb. /b

But instead of telling Caroline all of that, I simply nodded my head at her. “Go on.”

A small smile formed on her lips, as if she was about to tell me some kind of fantastic tale that was filled with heroes and dragon–ying knights, I bwas /bonly listening to her because I knew none of this was real. It just couldn’t be.

“A long time ago, when humans were in their primitive habitat, before the concrete jungle took bover /bthe real forests band /bmountains..several animals blived /bbin /bharmony with the humans.” She continued. “Food was vast and the poption was thriving. But then, the human poption bbegan /bbto /boutnumber those bof /bthe wild beasts and, that harmony among creatures was shattered.”

But instead of telling Caroline all of that, I simply nodded my head at her. “Go on.”

bA /bsmall smile formed on her lips, as if she was about to tell me some kind of fantastic tale that was filled with heroes and dragon–ying knights. I was only listening to her because I knew none of this was real. It just couldn’t be.

“A long time ago, when humans were in their primitive habitat, before the concrete jungle took over the real forests and mountains…several animals lived bin /bharmony with the humans.” She continued. “Food bwas /bbvast /band the poption was thriving. But then, the human poption began to outnumber those bof /bthe wild beasts and that harmony among creatures bwas /bshattered.”

“With the advancement of tools, humans became better hunters and the poption of the wild creatures started to dwindle. That was when bthe /bGods an Goddesses intervened.” Caroline’s smile was radiant as she mentioned the Goddesses. “The Moon Goddess was our creator, She gave the wolves a chance z survival by giving us the ability to turn human at will, while we were being bunted down. And other goddesses did the same with other creatures.

“There are other creatures?” My voice came out shrill, as my heart leapt to my throat.

I just found out wolves could transform into humans and now she was throwing another curveball at me by saying there were more of them! What was ii /ito expect next? What other creatures did I have to look out for now, other than the obvious wolvesb? /b

“Oh dear…” Caroline looked nervous as she bit her lower lip. I guess she wasn’t supposed to say it out loud, thest part of her sentence. “Fm bsorry/bb.. /bwasn’t intending to scare you…I just wanted to let you know that everything is still the sam-”

“Nothing is going to be the same ever again…” I whispered, looking up at Caroline through wide eyes. “Nothing.”

Now, even if I went out on the road, I would be looking at bevery /bsingle person in fear, not knowing if I was looking at a human or something else. bWhe /bcould I trust? Who could I believe in?

“It’s not that bad, I swear.” Caroline got up from her seat and walked towards me slowly, her hands held up in surrender. “You were fine before, bremember /bWhen you had no idea that the supernatural existed around you? This will be just the same. We aren’t monsters, Aurora. We don’t harm innocent people just for the fun of it. Trust me, you wouldn’t even-”

“But I would knowb!/bb” /bI yelled out desperately, trying to make her understand. “I would know, Carolineb…/b”

I tried to exin to her what I was feeling but it seemed impossible. On top of that, the drowsiness was back, making it increasingly difficult for me bto /bconcentrate on my thoughts. The lines between reality and hallucination were blurring inside my head and I bwas /bfinding it difficult to connect bthe /bworld that I lived in with the new information that I had gathered btoday/b.

But most of all, I wanted to just forget about all of it. If I fell asleep today…will I open my beyes /btomorrow to my old world, where all of this would have been a nightmare? Or will this be my reality from now on?
