Secret 99
bChapter /bb99 /b
Caleb’s P.O.V
The girls stared at me in awe, and fear, not used to having me snap
at
them like this. But I was far from done with them.
“Howe you don’t know that? If your mate turns out to be from another pack, I’d dare you to try and ignore the pull. Because you won’t bbe /bbable /bbto /bhold back then, and no one will hold you back either! Our wolf’s loyalty is to our mates first and foremost and no fool, who has found their mate, would ever oppose to such a sacred bond!”
Caroline was suddenly beside me, pulling me back, and I realized only then that I had walked up to the other women, invading their personal space until bi /bwas all but breathing down their neck. Thankfully, Caroline had stopped me right on time or there would’ve been some dangerous consequences.
“Look, I know you guys are upset that Shane had to leave,” Caroline spoke calmly, her voice soft but firm. “But that didn’t give you the right to act brashly /bwith Aurora or provide her with false information and half–truths.”
“She doesn’t belong with us.” Mia spoke stubbornly, but bher /bvoice broke as a low growl escaped my lips.
“Yes, she does.” Caroline countered. “Otherwise, the Moon Goddess would’ve never chosen her for Caleb. And if you’re worried about Shane being alone, then don’t be. He’s adjusting fine in his new environment.”
I closed my eyes for a few seconds, letting my emotions settle before bI /bspoke again. The room felt constricting after the weight of the situation settled around me, as if the walls were closing in on me. But I needed to keep myself level–headed.
An Alpha wasn’t supposed to make decisions when driven by their emotions. An Alpha bwas /balways supposed bto /bbe neutral. bIt /bbwas /bsomething my father had taught me earlier on. So I tried my best to calm the storm raging inside me. It was a difficult task, especially because my wolf was anxious, growling band /bsnarling in anger after learning the truth. It wanted out. It wanted to go to its mate…and so did 1. But first, bI /bwould need to sort this situation.
“Look,” I turned to the other women, my voice a lot calmer by still having an edge to it. “Shane bwasn’t /bsent to the New York camp because of bmy /bmate, it was because of how he acted, in front of an entire room full of people to bear witness. We might be animals bof /bthe wild but we live bas /bcivilized beings and we live by a code. We weren’t raised to treat others disrespectfully. You should always remember that. And pleaseb, /bdon’t try bto /bmakes decisions for me and Aurora. We were bound together by the Goddess herself and I have epted her as my mate. You should bept /bthat too.”
With that, I took Caroline’s hand and led her out of the room, shutting the door behind me in the process. She followed behind bme /bwithout any questions and I was grateful for that. The second bell had rung ages ago, but I had no intention of returning bto /bss any longer. bMy /bmood was ruined, bmy /bwolf was on edge and worry gnawed at my gut as to what Aurora might be thinking all thanks to Mia and her nonsense.
“I need to go see Aurora.” I told Caroline when we reached the main hallway. “Can you go back with Jade?”
“And you asked me why I needed my own car?” Caroline smirked. “I’ll be fine, just get to her safely.”
“Thanks!” I turned and headed towards the exit when Caroline’s voice stopped me once again.
“Wait.” She came running after me, slightly out of breath. “I bjust/bb…/bneeded to ask you something.”
“Sure?” 1 frowned. Since when did Caroline need my permission to bask /bme anything?
“Were you serious back then?” She looked into my eyes hopefully. “When you told Mia that if our mates are from another pack…you’d still let bus /bgo?”
“Of courseb!/bb” /bI frowned. “Why wouldn’t I? Like I said, once imprinted, the bond can’t be gotten rid of. So bthere /bbis /bno way anyone can object to it.”
b“/bI bsee/bb./bb” /bCaroline almost looked relieved as bshe /bstepped back. “Go on then. bGo /bfind Aurora and sort this outb./b”
“I will.” bI /bnodded and exited the building.
It bwas /btime to sort out our differences, once and for all.
