CHAPTER 296: CHAPTER 296: THE LAST TIME YOUR MAN WAS HERE, HE WAS POINTING A GUN AT ME
The doorman froze.
"Please wait a moment." With that, he went to find the lobby manager.
The lobby manager, a tall and thin man, came over upon hearing the news. When he saw Ji Wei, he stiffened for a second, then plastered on a smile and said, "What wind has blown Miss Ji to us today?"
"Is your Boss Zi here?" Ji Wei didn’t bother with formalities and cut straight to the point.
The lobby manager rubbed his hands together. "Well..."
Seeing the awkward look on his face, Ji Wei immediately understood that Zimei was indeed present.
"Take me to her. Whatever it takes, just write down the number yourself." Ji Wei fished a check out of her handbag and handed it to the lobby manager.
The lobby manager stared at the check for several seconds before nodding repeatedly. "Miss Ji, please, please follow me."
The lobby manager, overwhelmed by the unexpected windfall, could barely keep his voice steady in his excitement.
Ji Wei curved her lips into a mocking smile.
Money truly makes the world go round. An eternal truth.
Zimei’s office was at the end of the hallway. The lobby manager led her there and quietly withdrew.
Ji Wei took a deep breath, then knocked on the door.
"Come in." A woman’s soft and sultry voice floated out from inside.
Ji Wei pushed the door open and entered.
Zimei was seated in a spacious swivel chair, a lady’s cigarette pinched between her fingertips. Upon seeing Ji Wei, she exhaled a wisp of pale smoke and stood up.
She was wearing a tight-fitting dress that accentuated her curves in an arresting way—her figure seductive, with an alluring sway and a tiny waist like a willow branch.
Zimei truly was a stunner.
It was hard to imagine many men being able to resist the charm of a woman like this.
"It seems Boss Zi isn’t surprised to see me." Ji Wei looked at the woman walking steadily closer and calmly spoke.
Zimei’s composed demeanor had already tipped Ji Wei off.
Perhaps her earlier visit in the afternoon had already been reported to Zimei by an informant?
Zimei raised her languid, teasing gaze and sized Ji Wei up. Her bold red lips parted to say, "That’s right. I knew you’d come."
"That makes things easier. No need for me to beat around the bush." Ji Wei commented. "Boss Zi has plans to go to Japan as well, doesn’t she?"
Zimei arched her brow slightly, neither confirming nor denying.
Ji Wei continued, "There seems to be quite a backstory between Boss Zi and Mr. Ye. Last time on the cruise, when you mentioned someone owing you a favor, you were referring to Mr. Ye, weren’t you?"
"Gu Moqian told you that?" Zimei abruptly fixed her gaze on her and asked.
Ji Wei shook her head. "No, I figured it out myself."
From the fragment of conversation she overheard between Gu Moqian and Ye Cheng last time, combined with Zimei’s eyes on Ye Cheng during the cruise, it wasn’t hard to piece their relationship together.
"Miss Ji is quite clever. Spot on with your guess." Zimei chuckled lightly. "But... Miss Ji, don’t you have any lingering traumas about this place? After all, you almost—"
At this point, Zimei deliberately shot her a knowing glance.
Ji Wei smiled—a faint, distant smile tinged with coldness. "Of course I remember. But since I’ve come, I couldn’t possibly be afraid. I trust that after last time, Boss Zi wouldn’t be foolish enough to try anything a second time."
Ji Wei had seen through it all.
Last time, Zimei had secretly lent Zhu Jianian a helping hand, only to be severely punished by Gu Moqian—and almost lost the entire club in the fallout. She wouldn’t be foolish enough to repeat the same mistake and provoke Gu Moqian by targeting the person he cared most about.
Especially with Ye Cheng’s reputation at stake.
"Did you know? Last time, your man pointed a gun at me here." Zimei laughed seductively, radiating an air of enchantment and mischief. "But, honestly, I admire men like Mr. Gu, willing to go to such extremes for his woman. His temper is as unyielding as that other guy’s."
