CHAPTER 297: CHAPTER 297: YOU PROMISED TO BE WITH ME FOR A LIFETIME, YET YOU ABANDONED ME IN RONGCHENG

As Zimei spoke, a fleeting sadness flashed in her eyes.

"I’ll just take that as a compliment to my husband." Ji Wei smiled faintly. "Boss Zi, let’s not beat around the bush. You must know Mr. Ye is in Japan, don’t you care about his safety?"

The cigarette in Zimei’s hand had burned down quite a bit. Her hand suddenly trembled, and ashes fell.

How could she not care?

She wished she could rush over immediately, but Ye Cheng wouldn’t see her.

Even after she had helped Gu Moqian in that way, Ye Cheng had been icy cold, merely saying "thank you" before warning her to stop pursuing him—not even to approach his friends!

But now, with Ji Wei involved... perhaps Ye Cheng might have no choice but to meet her.

"You want to find the man you care about, and I need to rescue my husband. Shouldn’t we be allies?" Ji Wei’s voice came from behind her.

Zimei stubbed out her cigarette, turned around, and extended a hand with nails painted bright red. In a sweet voice, she said, "You’re right. Here’s to a successful partnership."

Ji Wei paused briefly, then reached out and shook her hand.

"When is Boss Zi planning to leave?"

"Tomorrow morning, on the earliest flight."

Ji Wei was a little surprised. "I’ve just renewed my passport. The visa will take at least a few days—I won’t make it in time."

"Leave such trivial matters to my people. Just make sure you show up tomorrow." Zimei replied.

"Alright!"

Ji Wei readily agreed.

The negotiation with Zimei went smoother than expected. After leaving the club, Ji Wei still felt it was somewhat unreal.

She was even a little shocked to realize just how deeply Zimei felt about Ye Cheng.

Upon returning to Shanshui Manor, Ji Wei had dinner and went straight back to her bedroom.

That night, she tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. Things had gone much more smoothly than she anticipated, yet she didn’t feel much relief.

An entire day had passed without any news from Gu Moqian. Was he still safe in Tokyo?

Uneasy, Ji Wei repeatedly lit up and darkened the screen of her phone. In the end, she couldn’t resist sending Gu Moqian a message, despite knowing he might not see it.

—Mo Qian, I miss you so much.

—Are you getting used to Tokyo? It’s past two in the morning here, and my head is filled with thoughts of you. I can’t sleep at all.

—You’re really something, you know? Leaving me here all alone! Let me tell you, I’m really mad, and the consequences could be serious!

She couldn’t hold back her frustrations and vented her feelings.

—Why did you leave without saying a word? Do I mean so little to you that you can’t trust me? Mo Qian, we promised to stay together forever, but you left me here in Rongcheng... I’m coming to find you tomorrow. Don’t be too surprised when you see me, hmph!

After sending the final message, Ji Wei stared at her phone screen for a long moment.

All the messages remained unread, and the disappointment in her eyes was unmistakable.

Finally, in what seemed like an effort to spite herself, Ji Wei set her phone to silent mode and stuffed it under her pillow. She yanked the blanket over her face.

Early the next morning, Ji Wei was awakened by the sound of her alarm clock.

She sat upright in bed, her expression still a little dazed from sleep. After a moment, she slowly turned her gaze. When her eyes landed on the neatly packed luggage by the door, she jolted, abruptly throwing off the blanket and getting out of bed.

It was 6 a.m., and Ji Wei left a note for Aunt Zhu and Ling Ling before quietly dragging her luggage out of Shanshui Manor.

The sky outside was faintly lit, and a thin mist lingered in the air.

Standing by the roadside, Ji Wei was just about to hail a taxi when a seven-seater SUV abruptly stopped in front of her.
