The sedan stopped in front of a dilapidated old residence.

Tang Yi got out of the car and went inside.

Ji Wei followed, opening the car door shortly after. Due to dizziness, her face appeared much paler and somewhat weak, forcing her to lean against the wall slowly.

The driver, who had long been unable to contain his excitement, tried to follow her, but as his hand touched the car door, Ji Wei stopped him: "Sir, don’t come down! If Xiao Zhen notices, all my efforts will be wasted."

The driver’s hand on the car door froze.

With a smile, the driver reversed the car and sped away.

As soon as the cab disappeared from sight, Ji Wei immediately gathered her wits and cautiously approached the old residence.

She crouched at the base of the wall, listening to the faint voices coming from within. But because of the distance, the words were indistinct.

Ji Wei suppressed her pounding heart and slowly raised her head to look.

Tang Yi was standing by the window, speaking to a man who was tied up.

The man had his back to Ji Wei, so his face couldn’t be seen clearly, but his figure resembled Ji Yunli quite closely. His mouth was gagged, which caused him to only make muffled sounds.

Ji Wei thought there was a high chance it was Ji Yunli, and her heart jumped into her throat.

Tang Yi didn’t stay long; roughly five minutes later, she walked out. After cautiously scanning the surroundings, she got into the sedan and left.

Watching the car drive away, Ji Wei crouched low and approached the window at the back of the residence.

The wooden window was in disrepair. Ji Wei found a basket to stand on for leverage and climbed inside. She hid behind the door, listening to the sounds in the room.

"Mmm... mmm..."

Only the sound of the bound man struggling could be heard. Ji Wei peered through the gap in the door but saw no one else.

Taking a deep breath, she grabbed a brick from the storage room and cautiously made her way forward.

"Dad... dad..."

She stepped cautiously, glanced around vigilantly, and remained alert for anyone hidden in the shadows.

Ji Wei called out twice.

Hearing her voice, the man struggled and yelled with muffled sounds, causing the stool beneath him to create a loud commotion.

Ji Wei sped up her steps. "Dad, don’t worry, I’ll untie you right away—"

As she said this, she rushed forward, just about to touch the man’s shoulder when she suddenly froze in place!

She saw a completely unfamiliar face.

This wasn’t Ji Yunli!

In that instant, Ji Wei realized she had fallen into a trap and turned to run. But the man swiftly broke free of the ropes and grabbed her tightly.

She didn’t resist, instead remaining eerily composed.

The man effortlessly pinned her to a chair and tied her up securely with ropes.

The man grew uneasy under her icy gaze and dared not look her directly in the eyes. After tying her up, he quickly left through the door beside them.

Ji Wei heard the sound of a lock clicking from the doorway.

Her mind began racing like lightning.

Had Tang Yi discovered she was being tailed mid-way and changed her plans? Or had it all been a performance, starting from the phone call at the office, to lure her in?

If it’s the latter, she had truly underestimated that woman.

Tang Yi’s ability to stay close to Ji Yunli for seven or eight years wasn’t just due to a simple mind.
