Vice President Liu fell silent upon seeing Chen Ke’s face.
"Chen Ke, handle Vice President Liu’s resignation paperwork. He can retire early." Behind him, a calm yet intimidating voice quietly spoke.
The crowd quickly made way as Gu Moqian strode forward. Without even ncing at Vice President Liu, he walked straight to Ji Wei and stopped.
"Hungry from waiting? Let’s go inside for lunch." When he spoke to Ji Wei, his voice was unusually gentle.
The other colleagues had never heard Mr. Gu speak so softly to anyone before, each left with their mouths wide open in shock.
By the time they regained their senses, Gu Moqian was already walking into the office with Ji Wei in his arms.
At that moment, Vice President Liu seemed to suddenly wake up from a nightmare. Looking at Chen Ke in front of him, he pleaded desperately, his voice trembling, "Assistant Chen, please speak to Mr. Gu on my behalf! I’ve been an employee under Mr. Gu for so many years, and I still have five or six years before retirement. I have both elderly and children to support at home; I can’t just lose my job like this..."
The arrogance Vice President Liu had moments ago hadpletely vanished. Humbly apologizing and groveling, he resembled nothing more than a grandson begging for forgiveness.
Chen Ke sneered coldly. "Vice President Liu, being so blind as to offend even Mr. Gu’s wife—only forcing you into early retirement is a stroke of luck. You should be thanking your stars."
With that, he no longer paid Vice President Liu any attention and went straight to the door, where a high-end hotel chef was waiting to deliver the meals.
Heading back toward the president’s office, Vice President Liu reached out with a pale face to grab him, but Chen Ke dodged without hesitation, casting him a cold nce before walking into the office with the meals.
Vice President Liu stood there awkwardly, helplessly watching the door close firmly in front of him. Turning around, the two female interns who caught his gaze immediately turned away, their faces pale, hurrying off as if avoiding a gue.
The other colleagues also cast him looks of disdain before dispersing one by one. No one paid him any further heed.
Inside the president’s office.
Chen Ke unpacked the food containers, cing them neatly on the table.
Ji Wei looked over and immediately saw all her favorite dishes: sweet and sour fish, steamed pork ribs... and even hairy crabs!
Upon spotting the perfectly cooked crabs, Ji Wei raised her head in surprise to look at Gu Moqian. "Moqian, you’re allergic to crabs—why would you order this dish?"
"Because you like them."
"..."
Why did her heart feel so full all of a sudden?
"Eat something else first. I’ll peel the crabs for you."
As he spoke, Gu Moqian had already removed his jacket, leaving just his white shirt as he approached and sat down. He rolled up his sleeves, his long hands deftly picking up arge crab and began peeling it.
Ji Wei felt slightly uneasy and reached out to intervene. "I can peel them myself."
"Eat the other dishes first; they won’t taste good once they’re cold," Gu Moqian said, his hands never stopping their work.
Ji Wei hesitated, ultimately drawing back her hand. But her gaze stayed fixed on Gu Moqian.
She never realized that a man peeling crabs could look so elegant. The way he carefully separated the meat, leaving the ws intact, was almost artistic.
Compared to her usual rough approach—biting straight into the shells—the difference was worlds apart. His precise movements were dazzlingly refined.
Ji Wei stared at him nkly. "Moqian, if you weren’t the president of the Gu Family, I’d think you were a surgeon. Your skills are too good."
"Does this make you admire me more?" The man chuckled softly.
Ji Wei nodded shyly. "You’ve always been someone I admire."
Compared to herself, Gu Moqian seemed wless. If there were ever a perfect man, he would be the embodiment.
