CHAPTER 26: CHAPTER 26: EUGENE VAUGHN’S SECRET WAS SPIED ON

Except for The Wishing Pool at Orin Temple.

She had never told anyone about this childhood wish.

Is it a coincidence?

Victoria Sinclair felt a chill at the back of her head, increasingly disliking this feeling of having her thoughts seen through, especially since this man was her uncle.

"I don’t want to go." Victoria replied in a flat tone.

Ethan Vaughn was quite confident, "Actually, you really want to go."

Victoria exhaled impatiently, ignoring him, stood up, and bid farewell to her grandmother, "Grandma, I have some work at the pharmaceutical lab, so I’ll head back first."

Grandma Vaughn, with a clear mind, certainly understood her younger grandson’s longing for his sister-in-law, but there was nothing she could do to change the independent thoughts of the young.

"Go, have Eugene take you."

"No need, Grandma." Victoria declined politely, picked up her bag, and turned to leave.

Ethan lightly bit his lower lip, falling into a few seconds of deep thought, then stood up and followed Victoria out.

As Auntie Rose brought out breakfast, Eugene Vaughn suddenly stood up, the chair behind him making a loud noise, and hurriedly chased after them.

"Eugene, aren’t you having breakfast?" Auntie Rose called out.

Eugene did not answer.

He caught up with Ethan at the door, forcefully grabbing his arm.

Ethan was pulled off balance, turning around to see Eugene, with a sly smile, he retorted cockily, "What now?"

Eugene’s cold eyes were like ice, and his tone was serious, "Is your skin itching again?"

Ethan couldn’t match Eugene in a fight, feeling somewhat fearful, he shrugged his shoulders, spread his hands, and in a shameless tone said, "What did I do? It’s vacation, I just wanted to invite sister-in-law to travel. Of course, you could come too, bring the family along, and we can all head to Cryos Northpass to see the aurora."

Eugene’s eyes darkened, a chilling murderous aura instantly enveloped him, burning with anger, he grabbed Ethan by the collar, pulling him close, speaking each word like it was emanating from an ice cellar, "You went through my stuff?"

Ethan squinted, smiling wickedly, his tone full of sarcasm, "So what if I did? Who would’ve thought, the so-called gentleman Eugene, sophisticated and refined, is actually more perverse than me."

As soon as he finished speaking.

Eugene threw a punch.

Ethan was hit again, stumbling back a few steps, blood oozing from the corner of his mouth.

He licked the blood on his lips with his tongue, staring playfully at Eugene, "Bro, the things you care about, I don’t care about at all."

Eugene’s clenched fist tightened harder, the knuckles turning white, veins bulging on the back of his hand as he trembled uncontrollably.

Ethan sneered, "I can wait, for the day Victoria doesn’t want you."

Eugene’s eyes turned blood-red, staring furiously at Ethan.

Ethan retreated cautiously, the smile at his lips extremely provocative, finally saluting Eugene before turning to his motorcycle.

He picked up his helmet, put it on, sat on the bike, and deliberately revved the engine loudly, glancing back at Eugene before riding off into the distance.

——

Victoria returned to the pharmaceutical lab, the entire company deserted, with only her, working on experiments in solitude.

When tired, she laid on the table to rest.

When hungry, she took a packet of bread from the drawer for a snack.

Her mind occupied with matters, thinking of someone, she couldn’t fully focus on working.

All day, her phone remained silent.

She felt an urge to message Eugene.

No matter how much she was neglected, she still hoped that Eugene would look back at her.

Today was their second wedding anniversary, and this hopeful emotion reached its peak.

If Eugene didn’t take initiative, should she be the one to act?

Perhaps asking him to come home early for dinner was a good idea.

Or maybe not, being rejected would be embarrassing.

How about waiting for him tonight and giving him a gift proactively?

Victoria struggled with her thoughts, recalling the past, then dismissed the idea.

She packed up and left the lab.

As night fell, the city lights began to twinkle, cars coming and going, with few people on the streets.

Victoria called Angela.

"Angela, where are you spending your vacation?"

Angela’s angry voice came through, "I’m outside your neighborhood, Sarah Lowell’s gone crazy, insisting on finding you, I can’t hold her back."

Sarah Lowell?

Hadn’t they already broken off their friendship?

Victoria quickened her steps towards home.

A few minutes later, she saw Angela and Sarah arguing heatedly outside the community gate.

"Sarah, just let it go. Victoria’s already ended her friendship with you, stop bothering her."

Sarah was furious, "Why should I? I’m not reconciled, our friendship of over six years, and it can’t withstand a scumbag?"

Victoria walked over calmly, calling, "Sarah."

Sarah turned to look at Victoria, stepped towards her, and quickly pulled a stack of photos from her bag, flinging them onto Victoria.

Victoria froze in shock as the stack of photos was suddenly thrown at her.

Photos scattered everywhere.

The streetlight at the community gate wasn’t bright, so Victoria couldn’t see the photos on the ground clearly.

Sarah’s angry voice shouted, "Victoria, our six years of friendship, you just cut it off like that. I’ve never seen someone so cold-hearted. If it were for some other reason, I could accept it, but for this scumbag rotten cucumber, I don’t accept it, I’m not reconciled. Open your eyes and look, this is your scumbag husband, spending your wedding anniversary with another woman."

Angela quickly came over, picking up the photos from the ground, "Where did you take these?"

Sarah raised her chin haughtily at Victoria, full of pride, "I went to a movie set today to photograph for someone, and happened to catch your husband visiting a popular actress, Renee. Surprised? On your wedding anniversary, he visited Renee, and after shooting, they went to a hotel together. I followed them the whole way for you, and I know which hotel they are in now."

Angela was shocked, dumbfounded.

Victoria stood still, like she was punctured at vital points, neither looking at Sarah nor the photos.

"Come on, let me take you to catch them in the act." Sarah pulled at Victoria’s arm, trying to drag her along, "I know you love this scumbag. If you don’t see his affair with your own eyes, you won’t give up. Come with me, let’s catch them!"

Victoria refused to move, was dragged a few steps, then managed to yank her hand back, breaking free from Sarah’s grasp.

She didn’t believe a word of it.

Yet her heart felt like a large hand was squeezing it tightly, the pain so intense it was like swallowing knives, limbs growing numb and stiff.

Tears welled up quietly, hidden in her eyes.

Angela sensed something off about Victoria, quickly holding back Sarah, "What exactly do you want?"

Sarah shouted rudely, "Angela, you’re her good friend, shouldn’t you persuade her to leave this scumbag? I’m telling her the truth, so why is it my fault?"

Angela retorted angrily, "This is Victoria’s personal matter, she has her own thoughts. There’s no need for you to be overly smart, these photos of them together don’t mean anything, aren’t rumors and scandals formed like this?"
