Cold War between Mr. and Mrs Vaughn: He Regretted when Divorce
Chapter 67: Eugene Vaughn Treats Her With Exceptional Kindness and Gentleness
CHAPTER 67: CHAPTER 67: EUGENE VAUGHN TREATS HER WITH EXCEPTIONAL KINDNESS AND GENTLENESS
Victoria Sinclair was silently psyching herself up, but her feet just wouldn’t move. That damned restraint and shyness were holding her back.
In this regard, she admitted she was cowardly.
In the end, she didn’t dare to knock on Eugene Vaughn’s door. Instead, she returned to her room, closed the door, and went to sleep.
She comforted herself, saying it was too late today and there would be another chance.
——
The next day, the weekend.
Without the urging of an alarm clock, Victoria Sinclair woke up naturally.
Perhaps because she was in a good mood, she energetically washed up, specially tied her jet-black long hair into a bun, and wore a white short-sleeved T-shirt paired with a knee-length beige skirt, looking elegantly pure.
She rarely wore skirts.
But today was the weekend, and Eugene would be home.
A woman would dress up for the one she liked, and she somewhat shared this sentiment.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she was already much prettier than usual, but still not satisfied. She couldn’t resist applying a thin layer of lip balm.
She fussed with herself for a while, then walked out of the room.
Eugene was sitting on the living room sofa looking at his phone. Upon hearing her open the door, he looked up.
With cheeks slightly red, Victoria walked towards him.
Eugene’s handsome face carried a gentle smile, his eyes warm.
He put down his phone and reached out a hand to her.
Victoria walked up to him, placing her hand in his palm.
Eugene grasped her tender rosy hand, gently pulled her onto his lap, drawing her close, his hot breath brushing her cheeks. In a magnetic voice, he softly asked, "Why are you all dolled up so beautifully early in the morning? Where are you going?"
She hadn’t even put on makeup, just wore a dress and changed her hairstyle. How was this considered beautiful?
With eyes shy, she softly replied, "I’m not going anywhere, just staying at home."
Eugene’s large hand politely touched her skirt on her thigh, "You look great, you really suit dresses."
Victoria nodded, looking into his eyes, feeling a bit guilty, "Sorry about last night, I..."
Eugene chuckled softly, interrupting, "It’s alright, I respect your choice."
That sounded as if she was unwilling.
Embarrassed, Victoria explained with a flushed face, "I went back to my room last night to use the bathroom and took a shower."
Eugene’s smile grew even softer, "Didn’t you already shower last night?"
"You like being clean so much, shouldn’t I be even cleaner?"
Eugene, helpless, affectionately kissed her cheek, "It’s my fault."
Warmth filled Victoria’s heart, overflowing with happiness, her heart raced again, her cheeks heating up as she looked towards the dining table, "Have you had breakfast yet? I’ll make you something."
"No need to cook, we’re going to eat at Mom and Dad’s."
"Hmm?" Victoria was surprised.
Eugene gently stroked her slender fingers, speaking softly, "Dad called me. Grandma is sick, so we’re going back to see her."
Victoria, anxious, stood up, pulling on his hand, "Why didn’t you wake me up earlier? Let’s go, we need to see Grandma."
Eugene leisurely picked up his phone and stood up, "No rush, I just called Grandma. Her spirits are good, it’s just a regular viral cold, contagious, she doesn’t want us to visit."
"The elderly have low resistance, even a common cold can’t be underestimated." Victoria held his hand, urging him to leave.
Eugene grabbed the car key, changed his shoes, and left the house with her.
One hour later, at the Splendor Estate.
Eugene’s car drove into the villa and parked in the garage.
Victoria got out of the car and walked into the villa alongside Eugene.
In the living room, Jenny Vaughn was lounging with her legs crossed, holding a phone horizontally, fully focused on playing a game, highly tense.
Hearing the commotion, she turned her head for a glance.
"Big brother, you’re back?" Jenny greeted, then ignored Victoria, her gaze quickly returning to the screen.
Eugene went over, snatching her phone with one hand.
"Ah!" Jenny was anxious, panicked, and nervous, "Big brother, what are you doing? Give me back my phone! The base is about to fall."
Eugene was unhurried, "Your eyes only see me?"
Jenny was somewhat bewildered. In the past, Eugene never cared if she greeted Victoria or not.
So strange.
"Sister-in-law, good morning." Jenny reluctantly greeted Victoria, then quickly snatched the phone back from Eugene, sitting down on the sofa.
"It’s all your fault," Jenny grumbled angrily, "Didn’t manage to push, and even died."
Eugene held Victoria’s hand, leading her towards Grandma’s room.
He knocked on the door, gently pushed it open, and walked inside.
Grandma was lying in bed looking at her phone. Upon seeing Eugene and Victoria enter, her heart skipped a beat. She quickly put down her phone, picked up a mask, and put it on, sitting up briskly, "Oh, I already said I’m okay, why bring my granddaughter-in-law over? What if she gets infected?"
"Grandma." Victoria softly greeted, walking over, "How’s your health?"
"Grandma’s doing well, it’s just a minor flu, nothing serious. Still eating and drinking fine," Grandma’s face didn’t look too good, but her spirits were decent.
Victoria sat by her bedside, touching her forehead, feeling it was hotter than her hands, she should still have a mild fever.
Grandma pulled Victoria’s hand down, holding it and gently patting, "So thoughtful, really nothing to worry about."
Eugene walked over to the bedside, calm and composed, "I did say you’re fine, but Victoria was very worried, so we came to see you."
Grandma faltered slightly, glancing at Victoria, then at Eugene, noticing the different attitude her grandson had towards her granddaughter-in-law, her heart felt relieved.
Her smile grew brighter, eyes crinkling, "Grandma’s taken the medicine prescribed by the doctor and feels much better. You two should be going on dates during the weekend, don’t come here and risk catching the virus."
Grandma didn’t seem frail from illness, more like an ordinary cold, not too severe in symptoms.
Victoria’s anxious heart finally settled, holding Grandma’s hand, advising, "Grandma, don’t keep looking at your phone, rest more, drink plenty of water, and take your medicine on time..."
Grandma interrupted, smiling broadly yet with a feigned disgust, waving her hand, "You’re more nagging than this old lady. Eugene, take your wife out for a date, so I don’t pass this flu to her."
Victoria smiled helplessly.
Eugene took Victoria’s hand, "Grandma, you have a good rest, we’ll head out first."
"Okay."
"We’ll come see you again when you feel better."
"Alright, alright, do head out, this is the flu, it’s contagious."
Victoria bid Grandma farewell, being led out of the room by Eugene.
Just as they closed the door, Eugene released her hand, pulling out a packet of sanitizing wipes from his pocket, tenderly wiping her hand.
Victoria was puzzled, watching his careful and attentive actions, softly asking, "Is my hand dirty?"
"Grandma has the flu virus on her hands, she just held your hand, better to sanitize."
Victoria didn’t refuse his kindness, enjoying the feeling of being taken care of and cherished by him.
It felt like going back to when they first met during the blind date, Eugene was exceedingly kind and gentle to her.
That’s how she first fell into Eugene’s tender onslaught, falling hopelessly in love with him.
