CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: HIDDEN PERILS BURIED

"If they bother you again, just give me a call."

"Okay."

That night, Laura Quincy stayed up until 1 AM to finish translating all the documents, so she came to the office the next morning with dark circles under her eyes.

As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she ran into Crystal Langley and Quinn Chase, who teased, "Whoa! Had a wild night last night, huh? You look totally drained."

Laura waved the documents in her hand, "I worked overtime until one last night. Can you expect me to be energetic?"

Crystal leaned in, "It’s rare to hear about the third team having to work overtime without going on a business trip!"

Laura sighed, "No choice, they need this document urgently, and Ella, who knows Arabic, is on a business trip and hasn’t returned yet."

Then she went back to her cubicle, not caring whether Crystal and Quinn believed her. Anyway, truth and lies are often mixed among colleagues. Those willing to believe you will naturally believe, and those unwilling will hear the truth as lies.

Around three in the afternoon, Laura suddenly received a call from an unknown number. After some thought, she answered, "Hello?"

On the other end, a child’s soft voice chimed, "Sister, it’s Little Mars. You didn’t forget that today is my birthday, right?"

Laura laughed, "Of course not! I’ve been remembering all along that today is Little Mars’s birthday."

Justin Hawthorne immediately got excited upon hearing this, "Great! I’ll call Daddy now. After you finish work, come home with Daddy. I’ll be waiting for you!"

Laura smiled and nodded, "Okay."

Around five o’clock, Laura suddenly received a text message: Go to the parking lot now and wait for me.

The message was from the Cold-Blooded Demon King, as commanding as ever. Laura pouted and replied: I’ll just drive and follow you.

Soon, another text message came.

"Ride in my car."

"What if someone from work sees us? Besides, it’s more convenient for me to drive myself since I have work tomorrow."

This time, there was no reply, obviously showing that the Demon King tacitly agreed to her decision.

As soon as it was time, she packed up and left work, taking the elevator straight to the parking lot. Before starting her car, she didn’t forget to send the Demon King a message: I’m going to pick up the cake from the bakery first. Wait for me on Harrowden South Road.

"Got it."

Standing at the entrance of The Hawthorne Villa, Laura still felt a bit uneasy. After all, she was just a total stranger coming to celebrate the young Hawthorne’s birthday. Just thinking about it seemed quite unbelievable.

Jason Hawthorne glanced at her, "Why aren’t you going in?"

Laura bit her lip, "Are there a lot of people inside?"

Jason could see her nervousness and said, "Only a few of my close friends are here."

At noon, he had already taken Twinkle to have lunch at The Hawthorne Estate, so there weren’t any other Hawthorne members involved in the evening, just John and Asher, Silas Sutton, and Landon Linden four people.

John was specifically called back by him, and as for White and Donnie, their curiosity was piqued by Asher, wanting to meet Laura...

He knew these guys’ intentions very well!

As they entered, Laura trailed behind at a distance. If it weren’t for Little Mars’s repeated enthusiastic invitations, she really didn’t want to step into a luxurious world where she felt completely out of place.

Asher had been waiting at the door for a while, and when he saw the two come in one after another, he quickly joked, "Jason, that’s not right! You’re still acting like the boss after work. As a gentleman, you should wait for the lady."

Seeing it was him, Laura felt somewhat relieved. No matter what, there was at least Young Master Thorne to lighten the mood.
