CHAPTER 116: CHAPTER 68: HOWARD GEOFFREY COMES TO RESCUE HER (PART 3)
Thinking about how she’s been entangled with him for so many years, she really feels it’s not worth it...
Hmm, could fifty million make up for the damage he caused to her heart by ignoring her for four years?
No...
He’s well aware that money was never what mattered to her; even if he gave her half of his fortune, it couldn’t compare to a call from him during those four years...
She would never understand that kind of pain, like a slow death, torturing her heart every day.
Throughout all these years they’ve known each other, he never gave her a bit of security or appeared when she needed him. It’s her foolishness, her naiveness that led her to resolutely place him in her heart all those years, yet she finds it impossible to blame him.
Because he never had her in his life either; it was her father who forcibly pushed her towards him... So, he had no obligation to be responsible for her life.
He repeatedly warned her not to get close to Skyler Jones. She once thought maybe he was a bit angry or cared, but the answer he gave her was simply hoping she’d choose someone else...
He’ll never know how painful that simple sentence was to her at that moment...
So, that day, she chose to date Skyler Jones.
Because, between her and him, it finally came to a complete end... He used one offhanded comment to completely shatter her last bit of hope and fantasy.
If life could start over, she thinks, she wouldn’t want the rich, comfortable life, nor the father who loves her dearly. She’d just want a simple life, and find an ordinary person... Perhaps, she’d be living fine now, at least not wasting six years of youth.
That night, maybe she thought a lot, the fear gradually faded away, and in the end, she fell asleep leaning against the window.
The next day, she was awakened by the sound of a yacht.
Opening her eyes groggily and realizing that someone had arrived, she immediately woke up, threw off the blankets, and ran outside, happily shouting, "Skyler!"
She originally intended to change her way of addressing him to surprise him but then...
Standing not far from her was the person she least expected—Howard Geoffrey.
Since she hadn’t expected it at all, Rebecca Quentin was stunned.
Howard Geoffrey seemed to become slightly tense because of her familiar call for "Skyler."
Rebecca Quentin first withdrew her gaze from him, unsure of what to say for a moment.
Howard Geoffrey also shifted his gaze away from her in the next second, breaking the silence, "Are you disappointed it’s not him?"
Rebecca Quentin remained silent.
Howard Geoffrey then tied the yacht’s rope, brushed past her, and walked into the villa.
Rebecca Quentin followed him inside, initially intending to ask if he could take her away. Seeing him on the phone, she patiently waited on the side.
She waited until Howard Geoffrey finished his call, then asked him, "Can you take me away from here?"
Howard Geoffrey replied, "I will take you away... Since you’ve come to the island, why not help me with something."
"What?" Rebecca Quentin asked.
Howard Geoffrey said mildly, "You don’t need to know what it is, just stay a few more days here... Rest assured, I will allow you to inform Skyler Jones you’re safe." He needed to verify something.
"I don’t want to stay here," Rebecca Quentin clearly expressed her attitude.
"Then just leave on your own," Howard Geoffrey said, then turned and left.
Five minutes later, Rebecca Quentin found Howard Geoffrey on the beach, where he was looking at the sea, his back solitary.
Rebecca Quentin approached him, "Didn’t you say I could make a call to Mr. Jones?"
Before handing her the phone, Howard Geoffrey asked, "So you agree to stay?"
Rebecca Quentin replied with slight anger, "Do I have other choices?"
"No."
"That settles it."
Taking the phone, Rebecca Quentin walked aside and called Skyler Jones.
A moment later, she handed him the phone back.
Hearing her calm voice, he glanced at her, only to realize the obvious anger on her face had vanished and what remained was the lingering gentle smile from chatting with Skyler Jones.
Unexplainably displeased, he turned away.
With Howard Geoffrey on the island, everything there changed completely.
First, all the servants responsible for watching the island returned. Next, the outages stopped too, so when night fell, lights sprang up all around the island, instantly creating an ambiance of a dreamlike, otherworldly feel.
After having dinner prepared by the servants, Rebecca Quentin went for a walk along the charming beach that night.
Having been on this island for several days, today, she finally could appreciate it without fear.
So, she took off her shoes and walked leisurely on the beach.
Maybe it was her immersion in the island’s beautiful night scene, but without noticing, she stepped onto a damaged, sharp shell on the sand.
"Ah!"
She cried out in pain.
Her voice attracted a nearby servant’s attention, who then rushed over. Upon seeing the blood oozing from her foot, the servant hurried into the villa.
A moment later, Howard Geoffrey appeared before her.
As usual, without a word of concern, he said, "A grown-up like you, can’t even walk properly?"
Rebecca Quentin, now in pain, knitted her brow tightly, ignoring whatever Howard Geoffrey said.
A servant came over with a medicine kit and started meticulously treating her wound.
Rebecca Quentin bit her lip tightly; despite the pain, she didn’t cry out.
Once the wound was bandaged, everyone left, and just as Howard Geoffrey was about to leave, Rebecca Quentin said helplessly, "Hey, I can’t walk..."
Her foot really hurt; the shell cut deeply, and even a gentle touch would cause it to bleed again.
Howard Geoffrey kept walking, seemingly not hearing Rebecca Quentin or planning to help her.
Watching his departing back, Rebecca Quentin couldn’t help but curse him in her heart. Cold-blooded, horrid!
But just as she continued swearing at him, he unexpectedly stopped his footsteps, hesitated for a second, then turned around, walked to her, and finally lifted her from the beach.
"Ah..."
Her body lifted, Rebecca Quentin instinctively circled Howard Geoffrey’s neck.
The way back saw many servants watching, but since the two didn’t exchange words, the servants didn’t misunderstand anything.
Arriving at the room, Howard Geoffrey placed Rebecca Quentin on a bed in the guest room, and so, Rebecca Quentin spent the night there.
