CHAPTER 316: CHAPTER 170: SHE WANTS TO LEAVE? WHAT A DELUSION! (PART 2)
Andrew cried bitterly in the crib because he was hungry...
Rebecca Quentin picked Andrew up, and the child immediately stopped crying.
Looking at the child’s handsome little face, which was so much like Howard Geoffrey’s, Rebecca couldn’t help but give Andrew a gentle kiss on the cheek.
Andrew seemed very understanding, sensing his mother’s low spirits, and placidly nestled in Rebecca’s arms.
Rebecca gently placed Andrew back on the bed, softly instructing, "Good baby, mommy will make you some milk... You lie on the bed, mommy will be back quickly."
With that said, Rebecca turned and walked over to the low cabinet where the milk powder and bottles were kept.
While Rebecca was making the milk, there was a sound at the apartment door.
Thinking it was Howard Geoffrey, Rebecca spilled a bit of the milk powder from the spoon but quickly regained her composure.
She wasn’t actually afraid to face him, she just didn’t know how they should proceed.
Staying or leaving, it seems the time has come to make a choice...
Her heart was invaded by sadness and loss, and Rebecca, momentarily dazed, did not notice that the footsteps of the visitor were clearly different from Howard Geoffrey’s. When the door was opened and Rebecca instinctively looked at the person, her gaze, which had been both expectant and apprehensive about seeing Howard Geoffrey, turned surprised and anxious due to the visitor’s arrival.
"Old Mrs. Geoffrey."
Rebecca’s voice was a bit hoarse, not having expected the visitor to be Mrs. Geoffrey.
Mrs. Geoffrey stared at Rebecca for a second, her face not showing deliberate disgust, nor kindness, giving her a nonchalant glance before turning her gaze to Andrew, who was lying on the bed sucking his fingers.
"How are you taking care of the child? You’re actually leaving him alone on the bed; what if he falls down?"
Mrs. Geoffrey nervously walked to the bedside and directly picked up Andrew.
With caution considering past experiences, Rebecca anxiously put down the bottle and hurried to Mrs. Geoffrey, blurting out, "Old Mrs. Geoffrey, you..."
Mrs. Geoffrey turned to Rebecca, "What? Are you afraid I’ll take Andrew away like last time?"
Rebecca did not answer, seemingly agreeing by her silence.
Mrs. Geoffrey calmly said, "Rest assured, I’m not here for Andrew this time. Last time, bringing Andrew back to the Geoffreys impulsively without mature consideration not only caused my sons to criticize me but also pushed you and Howard together again in New York. I was really foolish."
Hearing the regretful tone of Mrs. Geoffrey, Rebecca’s heart ached with a soft, bittersweet pain, recalling Mrs. Geoffrey’s past love for her to the present disdain, she could only lament at the tricks life plays.
"Andrew, darling... Talk to grandma..."
No matter her feelings towards Rebecca, Mrs. Geoffrey’s affection for her grandson was evident in her words.
Andrew seemed to recognize Mrs. Geoffrey, laughing gleefully as she teased him.
Mrs. Geoffrey was indulged in the joy of playing with her grandson, which slowly relaxed Rebecca’s previously tense mindset.
"Sweetheart, do you recognize grandma? You’re so happy laughing with grandma..." Mrs. Geoffrey’s loving words were full of affection for Andrew, unable to resist kissing him repeatedly.
Watching Mrs. Geoffrey playing with Andrew, Rebecca couldn’t help but feel a deep, bitter yearning.
If she were not Vivian Lindsey and Alexander Quentin’s daughter, just an ordinary girl’s family, today she and Howard Geoffrey could form a beautiful family, allowing Andrew to grow up under the affection of his grandmother and father...
However, having said that, without the grudges of the previous generation, she and Howard would not have met... Unfortunately, time cannot go backward; given a choice, she would rather have never met Howard in this life to avoid today’s tough choices and suffering.
Rebecca handed the bottle of milk she had prepared to Mrs. Geoffrey...
Mrs. Geoffrey, without reservation, accepted the bottle, "Sweetheart, are you hungry? Quickly drink... No more sucking thumbs, it’s dirty..."
Seeing Andrew sucking milk obediently in Mrs. Geoffrey’s arms, Rebecca couldn’t help but smile faintly.
Mrs. Geoffrey continued to play with Andrew in the room until he was tired and fell asleep, then gently placed him back in the crib.
As she put Andrew down, Mrs. Geoffrey couldn’t resist giving his sleeping face a gentle kiss, then transforming her gaze full of infinite love to one of indifference as she turned towards Rebecca, who had been standing silent by the side, asking, "Do you have time to talk with me for a bit?"
