CHAPTER 51: CHAPTER 36: HIS KINDNESS, MOST OF IT HAS ULTERIOR MOTIVES 2

"Yes." Roye, who had been standing guard by the door, immediately bowed.

"Send her home."

"Yes."

Rebecca Quentin sat frozen in her seat, her throat too dry to utter a word.

Roye opened the car door then. Seeing Rebecca struggling to sit up straight, he said with some reluctance, "’Ma’am’, please."

Rebecca slowly released her tight grip on the car cushion. No more fantasizing. Cradling her belly, she slowly rose, and Roye helped her out of the car.

Roye immediately made a phone call, and moments later, a silver car pulled up beside Rebecca Quentin.

The driver had already opened the car door and was waiting for Rebecca to get in.

Roye gave the driver a few instructions and then returned to Howard Geoffrey’s car.

Rebecca bit her lip lightly and finally walked towards the silver car.

Meanwhile, Roye had started Howard’s car, and an instant later, it drove directly towards the parking lot.

Sitting in the car, Rebecca finally couldn’t hold back the tears welling in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Each time her eyes began to burn, she wiped away the moisture from their corners again and again.

「In the evening」

Aunt Clare called Rebecca again.

Rebecca didn’t refuse Aunt Clare’s request this time and agreed to meet her at a familiar tea restaurant.

When Aunt Clare saw Rebecca, whose belly was growing larger while her frame seemed to shrink, tears of heartache instantly welled up. "Miss..."

Not wanting Aunt Clare to worry, Rebecca had already masked her emotions. Holding Aunt Clare’s hand, she chuckled lightly. "What’s the matter? It’s been so long since we last saw each other. Anyone who didn’t know better might think I’ve been mistreating you!"

Aunt Clare was already choking back sobs. "You’ve lost so much weight..."

Rebecca deliberately looked down at herself, then explained lightly, "I’ve always been thin. It’s just that now, with my belly bigger, I appear thinner in comparison."

She really hadn’t lost weight. At the Geoffrey estate, despite her low spirits, she had still consumed plenty of nutritional supplements.

Aunt Clare cried out through her sobs, "You said Mr. Geoffrey treats you very well..."

Rebecca quickly stood up and hugged Aunt Clare. "Please don’t cry. If you keep on like this, the other customers will laugh at us... He really does treat me well. I’m not lying to you."

Aunt Clare whimpered and cried for a good while longer before she slowly composed herself and, pulling Rebecca, sat down.

Rebecca gently patted Aunt Clare’s back, just as Aunt Clare used to comfort her, and said guiltily, "I’m sorry. I haven’t returned to the Quentin home for so long, and I’ve troubled you, at your age, to look after Quentin Enterprise..." Aunt Clare must be in her late sixties by now.

"Silly girl, I have no other ties and have worked for the Quentin family for so many years. I’ve long considered you and the Old Master as my own family. I’m happy to do anything for you both, no matter how much."

"Aunt Clare, thank you." Tears welled in Rebecca’s eyes, as if she had found a long-lost warmth.

"Such a silly girl..."

Afraid that her deep attachment to this familial affection would cause her emotions to give her away, Rebecca quickly changed the subject. "Let’s not talk about this anymore. Let’s discuss tomorrow’s business."

Aunt Clare asked, "Have you thought of a solution?"

Rebecca shook her head gently. The memory of her meeting with Howard Geoffrey that morning suddenly resurfaced.

Seeing Rebecca’s eyes suddenly go blank and lose focus, Aunt Clare asked anxiously, "Did something happen? Did you ask Mr. Geoffrey for help, and he refused?"

Coming back to her senses, Rebecca quickly shook her head. "No! Uh, how could he refuse? He’s just at the American headquarters right now. I’ve called him several times these past two days but couldn’t reach him. I think he must be busy with company matters. You know, he manages such a large company; when he’s busy, he doesn’t allow anyone to disturb his work."

She was sweating by the time she finished her explanation, relieved that Aunt Clare hadn’t seen through her.

Aunt Clare said, "But tomorrow is the day of the court hearing. By the time Mr. Geoffrey returns to the country, it’ll be too late..."

Rebecca nodded. "For now, we can only try to figure out a solution ourselves first."

Seeing Rebecca’s worried expression, Aunt Clare said with concern, "You’re pregnant right now; don’t worry so much. Even if we lose the lawsuit and Quentin Enterprise is gone, it’s not as important as your health."

"I know. I’ll take good care of myself."

"Don’t forget, the Old Master will always be silently protecting Quentin Enterprise."

"Mm."

"Miss, since Mr. Geoffrey isn’t coming back tonight, why don’t you return to the Quentin home with me..."

Before Aunt Clare could finish her sentence, Rebecca’s phone suddenly rang.
