Chapter 467: The War to End All Wars
CHAPTER 467: THE WAR TO END ALL WARS
Pablo had brought a writer with him.
The writer had long black hair, his lips were black as he was a chain smoker and he was thin because well, he was a heavy drinker as well.
Everyone was against it but when Pablo told Harlia about going down in history, she agreed.
What surprised Pablo was that the writer was okay with that.
He had no fear on his face. He told Pablo that if he hadn’t asked him, then he himself would have asked Pablo to take him to the war.
Pablo warned the writer that he might die in the war, but the writer said that if he died on the battlefield, then even a weakling like him would feel the pleasure of dying for his land.
Also, just like Pablo, the writer also believed that this war would be epic and monumental and if anything should be written, then this war surely filled all the checks.
Not only would the writer become immortal but he would also immortalize this war as well.
Pablo had told the man that whatever he should write, he should write it true to its core. No lies Pablo wanted and the writer agreed as well. He was also a fan of truth as he believed truth was stranger than fiction.
Pablo then told the writer that he should first write the war as it is and then refine it around a story in the final draft. He told the writer that people would become bored if he wrote another history lesson, he should add a story to the event and the writer nodded. He told Pablo that he was already going to do that.
The writer also told Pablo that if he died in the war during writing, then he had a friend who would come to the Ashen Crucible to recover whatever he wrote during the war.
The conversation between the writer and Pablo were heard by everyone and all of them became excited to be in a book.
All of them introduced themselves to the writer and told him their names and the writer wrote all of that down.
Pablo had laughed watching all that as he believed if writers were respected and sought like this on Earth, many of them wouldn’t have died of hunger.
Nevertheless, Pablo hadn’t thought further about that and now that the writer was on the team, Pablo assigned him to Harlia’s group as he believed the woman would be better to take care of him. If he had come to Pablo’s group and if Pablo snapped mid-war by something, he would forget everything and kill anyone on sight. That’s why he didn’t make the writer stay with him.
Lastly, Pablo had asked his name and the writer said that his name was: Jaun Elia.
Pablo had smiled and asked the writer if he was a poet too? And the writer replied yes.
Pablo nodded and didn’t say anything after that.
At present, the writer was just behind the horse of Harlia and he constantly looked around and wrote things in his book.
He sensed Pablo’s gaze and he looked up.
He flashed a smile and started writing again.
Pablo let the man be and focused ahead of himself.
The road was clear. There was nothing in the way as the King had ordered that no one shall be seen roaming around the road if they had nothing to do with the war. Not even guards were there.
The path to reach the Ashen Crucible was a straight path with no mountains and rivers on the way and also, it was quite easy to reach there as that place had no one around.
Pablo had thought that he could use someone who could teleport to make everyone teleport to the Crucible in an instant, but no soldiers, Marshals, Generals, and anyone else had that kind of power. They couldn’t teleport every one to a place they hadn’t seen or visited themselves. So they had no choice but to reach the Crucible like this.
The soldiers talked among themselves along the way.
Pablo’s eight slaves were also there at the back on their horses and they were also laughing and talking.
Songs were being sung and the mood was light.
But only Pablo and Harlia had no happiness on their faces. They were neither sad nor happy. They were just focused and deep in their own thoughts.
"War hasn’t started yet, you know. You can relax for now." Cupid said, floating beside Pablo.
Pablo sighed. ’I am just thinking about something from Earth.’
"Oh. What’s that? World war two?"
Pablo shook his head. ’Have you heard about Mahabharatha?’
Cupid frowned. She stared in the sky and after a few seconds, her eyes lit up.
"Yes! I know about it. It was also a war like this right?"
Pablo nodded. ’Yes. It was also a war. But I don’t know if the war I am going to will be as brutal and important as the Mahabharatha.’
"Does it matter? You only remembered that because you are going to war in this world. It doesn’t have to be like the Mahabharatha."
’I am not remembering that war exactly. I am recalling the words of Krishna when he talked with Arjuna.’
Cupid’s frown deepened and Pablo decided to explain a little.
’I have never read Bhagavad Gita back on earth. But I happened to hear some lines and words from it. Krishna was telling Arjuna that if he stopped worrying about the losses in the war, and stopped being happy if he won the war, he would become a true man. Basically, not caring about the results at all and doing what needs to be done.’
Cupid nodded. She understood. "But why are you remembering that now?"
Pablo sighed. ’I am just thinking that this war was bound to happen. The Gods had brought me into this world because people had become evil and they wanted me to end the evil. And since people were already evil when I came into this world, the evil kept rising and then rose to the highest point. After that, such Wars are the only way to level everything back to the ground level. What I am saying is that, this war...’
Pablo looked into the sky as if eyeing the Gods residing there.
’Is the War to end all Wars.’
