Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Really Pregnant? Chapter 144: Chapter 144: Really Pregnant? Madame Yan had heard the servants announce that the young master had brought back the young mistress. She initially planned to go out and greet them, but Master Yan, seated in the center, huffed.

“Since when do mothers-in-law go to welcome their daughters-in-law? What kind of manners is that?”

Madame Yan rarely agreed with the old Master, her face stiffened while Yan Bo swiftly pulled her close to him and whispered in her ear, “Xiao Hua, dear, don’t make it hard for Ying’er!”

Madame Yan reluctantly sat back down. It was true, her going out wouldn’t have added to the respect to her daughter-in-law, but rather would give the old master an impression that Ying’er was haughty.

As they hesitated, the bridegroom had already brought the bride in.

“Young Master Yan, put me down, please.” Zhu Qianying glanced at the crowd in the hall and felt she should walk over by herself. After all, she was the younger generation.

Her voice was soft, but Yan Bo clearly heard it. He ignored her request and carried her into the middle of the living room before finally putting her down.

“Ying’er, this is Grandpa!”

She was momentarily stunned when she heard him refer to her in this way for the first time.

His voice was gentle and affectionate as he addressed her. Was he not afraid that she might get pregnant from that?

“Hello, Grandpa!” Zhu Qianying curtly greeted the silver-haired Master Yan sitting seriously on the sofa.

“Hmm!” Master Yan hummed through his nose.

Even though he’d been retired for many years, his authority and grandeur had seeped into his bones, impossible to change.

“This is Grandma!”

In contrast to Master Yan, Granny Yan seemed much more amiable. The looks she gave Zhu Qianying were somewhat similar to those of Madame Yan.

“Hello, Grandma!” Zhu Qianying bowed again.

“Good girl, Ying’er is very beautiful. Xiao Hua, you were right, these two youngsters are very well-matched!”

Yan Bo’s mouth twitched noticeably. Zhu Qianying caught a glimpse and resisted the urge to laugh, knowing this occasion wasn’t suitable for joking, so she didn’t react.

After introducing Master Yan and Granny Yan, Yan Bo moved slightly with Zhu Qianying’s hand in his, to a gentle-looking old man who seemed to be about the same age as Master Yan.

“Ying’er, this is Grandpa!”

Zhu Qianying kept her respectful demeanor, “Hello, Grandpa!”

“Hello, little girl!” The old head of the Tong family replied, smiling. If one didn’t know him, they wouldn’t connect this gentle old man with the fearsome Tong family leader from decades ago.

Yan Bo then introduced Zhu Qianying to the elders sitting in the living room one by one. After that, Uncle Hai led the servants to serve tea for the newlyweds to offer to the present elders.

There were two cushions in front of Master Yan and Granny Yan, obviously for the newlyweds to kneel and offer tea.

Zhu Qianying didn’t resist this, as it was a traditional custom. Moreover, as a member of the younger generation, kneeling to the elders was a sign of respect and reverence.

Just as she was about to kneel, Yan Bo pulled her arm, “Grandpa, let’s not kneel this time! It’s not convenient for Ying’er in her condition!”

Following Yan Bo’s outburst, the eyes of the room quickly turned to Zhu Qianying’s belly.

Even Chen Jing and Le Tong subconsciously glanced at Zhu Qianying’s abdomen.

Master Yan seemed taken aback, but soon he waved his hand, “Ah Hai, put away those cushions!”

A faint smile formed on his gruff face.

As Zhu Qianying served him tea, the smile on Master Yan’s face became more apparent. He even reminded Zhu Qianying after drinking it, “Be careful, alright?”

With a reddening face, Zhu Qianying gathered her courage to nod, “Grandpa, I’ll be careful!”

In her mind, she cursed Yan Bo uncountable times!

She would rather kneel and offer tea to these elders than be misunderstood in such a way!

What on earth was going through Yan Bo’s mind?!

Nothing was confirmed yet, but he was so reckless with his words!

Maybe because of Yan Bo’s suggestive words, the following rites were somehow all missed. As soon as they finished the tea ceremony, Master Yan immediately ordered Uncle Hai to bring a soft sofa over for Zhu Qianying to sit.

Zhu Qianying, feeling embarrassed, sat on the sofa with her face all red. Yan Bo, however, sat next to her nonchalantly with his hand around her waist, calmly answering the elders’ inquiries and concerns.

Most of the questions were directed at Zhu Qianying.

Ordinarily, Zhu Qianying could’ve answered them, but Yan Bo, perhaps under some strange influence, answered most of them before she could open her mouth.

For instance, Master Yan asked Zhu Qianying.

“Ying’er, I heard you have graduated from university. Are you planning to help in Xiao Han’s company, or are you planning to look for other work? How about if your uncle or aunt arrange a job for you?”

Before Zhu Qianying could respond, Yan Bo answered.

“Grandpa, Ying’er should focus on her health first, don’t you think?”

Zhu Qianying felt embarrassed, just willing to crawl into a hole.

Was Yan Bo afraid that the misunderstanding wasn’t profound enough?

In a few months, if there still isn’t any movement in her belly, would she have to stuff a ball in there to fool people?

“Oh…right, I almost forgot,” said Master Yan, who seemed much more gentle and benign after hearing Yan Bo’s hint.

“Ying’er, why don’t you come live in the Capital City for a few months? Grandma’s personal doctor is a well-known old Chinese doctor who is excellent at prenatal care.”

Zhu Qianying was speechless, wondering if it was a wedding or a prenatal care class.

“Grandma, I…”

Before Zhu Qianying could speak, Yan Bo interrupted her again, “Grandma, if you take her to the Capital City, wouldn’t I be left alone here?”

Granny Yan laughed, “Oh right, how could I, an old woman, be so tactless, trying to snatch people away from my lovely grandson.”

Seeing that the topic of the conversation was becoming weirder and weirder, Zhu Qianying chose to stay silent. After all, Yan Bo was the one who stirred up the whole misinterpretation, so it should be up to him to clear it up.

Her job was only to act like a gentle and obedient daughter-in-law.

While the elders continued grilling them with questions, Madame Yan mysteriously appeared on Zhu Qianying’s other side. She took Zhu Qianying’s hand and softly asked, “Ying’er, are you really pregnant?”

Zhu Qianying didn’t know how to answer.

As she hesitated, struggling to decide whether to tell the truth or lie, Yan Bo leaned closer to Madame Yan and said, “Mom, don’t you trust your son?”

Zhu Qianying was utterly speechless, all she wanted at the moment was to play dead!

If she listened to Yan Bo making things up a few more times, even she, the person concerned, would start to believe she was really pregnant!
