Cyber Era Witch
Chapter 1124 - 869: The End of the Nether Land World
CHAPTER 1124: CHAPTER 869: THE END OF THE NETHER LAND WORLD
Passing through the death mist, Easter followed closely behind Farosa, as inseparable as a shadow.
"You don’t seem to dislike Easter that much anymore," the Cyber Specter turned around.
Easter had seen such terrifying things; how could she continue to hate her? She had cut off half of her brain to protect herself, becoming a harmless lamb. The Seven Seals somehow nurtured her, enabling her to become the new Empress. Farosa sighed silently.
"After all... Easter hasn’t done anything bad," Farosa didn’t even understand how such words came from her mouth, "Easter is just a victim of all this; she never had a chance to choose."
Easter seemed completely unable to understand what Farosa was saying; she appeared only more attached to Farosa, almost clinging to her.
"Sister, what we’re doing is like a miracle," Easter looked up, her eyes resembling stars.
"Sister?" Farosa felt dazed.
"I want you to be my sister," Easter giggled, "Didn’t you promise?"
Easter, Easter from Levante. Her black hair was as smooth as satin, her eyes bright red like blood, her skin pale as salt. Farosa had long chestnut hair, brown eyes, and extremely pale skin.
She didn’t believe Easter was her blood sister, but at this moment, Farosa felt a grand mourning sweeping through her soul.
Why not acknowledge it?
In her memory, there was a vague sister, living only in memory, certainly not in reality. At least Farosa could distinguish between memory and reality; Easter was a modern person, that hazy sister was at least a thousand years old. Farosa had never seen her sister since escaping as a Godslayer, but now, could Easter perhaps be the perfect substitute?
"We’re doing something very great," Farosa wrapped her arm around Easter’s shoulder, "My..."
The word "sister" danced on her tongue, unable to be uttered no matter what.
To the proud Farosa, admitting Easter as her sister was truly difficult.
Easter’s face showed a puzzled smile.
"Sister, let’s keep going," she said, as if oblivious to Farosa’s refusal to acknowledge her sisterly identity.
Farosa took a deep breath and continued forward.
Following the Cyber Specter, they finally could return to the tide of ghosts; they saw the vast procession of ghosts crossing the wastelands, leaving the decaying and absurd city of the dead, through the end of the Styx River.
The Great Maelstrom was right before their eyes!
"That’s the magnificent whirlpool recorded in ancient texts." Farosa gazed at the giant kaleidoscopic whirlpool in the distance.
Its size was at least several kilometers wide; any ghost appeared insignificant in its view. The soulfire formed the body of the maelstrom, and all souls had to pass through the Great Maelstrom to be reborn, losing all their memories in the process, to enter the human world with a blank slate, to be born by a mother, or accidentally enter the body of an artificial being.
Under the slowly rotating Great Maelstrom’s illumination, all ghosts were quite excited; they had reached the end of their journey, the edge of the Afterlife World! The Styx River gradually disappeared here as if it were the primal energy propelling the Great Maelstrom’s spin.
"Look... the Great Maelstrom is right here! It seems to have been reopened!" Ghosts pointed and gestured.
The Netherworld Giant God Pomorty seemed afraid to appear and stop these millions of ghosts; not only that, it instead opened the Great Maelstrom, allowing the ghosts to return to the human world normally.
Farosa felt justified by this result—the Mt. Kuro’s Expedition Team was powerful, having just slain the Frost Giant God Elride, and with millions of ghosts following, even Pomorty would worry about the consequences of showing up in person.
She could feel the energy emitted by the maelstrom growing stronger, seemingly powerful enough to burn Farosa as well, to join the cycle of reincarnation and rebirth.
No, not right. Farosa thought secretly.
They came in via the Underworld Tunnel, just as Soul of Gold Chryses had said; it’s a one-way ticket, and to go back, they must defeat Pomorty, reshape the death laws, and give themselves a chance.
If they were to simply jump through the Great Maelstrom back to the human world...
They would all reincarnate, all become memoryless infants, starting over!
Moreover, witches always return to the stars, so if she and Easter were thrown directly into the Great Maelstrom, who knows what would happen?
"...We have to reshape the death laws, I can’t accept starting over from scratch." Wei Shiyue also understood the situation, circling in the air with wings.
The ghosts’ attitudes were very different; they had finally reached the end of death, at last able to escape the oppression of the Super Soul Company, joyfully reincarnating, seeking new families, new lives, chattering non-stop.
"Can you imagine what reincarnation will be like?"
"Just jumping into the Great Maelstrom should do it, right? According to those old ghosts, you just need to jump in; the whirlpool connects to those mothers who have been pregnant for a long time!"
"Will we still be us, or will we completely become someone else?"
"Of course we’ll still be us, just reborn in totally different ways."
"So which iteration of ’me’ is this? Am I a no.500 or is this my first time reincarnating?"
"There is no continuity between different generations of us; we can be seen as completely different entities. We remember nothing and start from scratch!"
"I wonder what it would be like to reincarnate as an animal. I feel that an animal’s life is so simple, without worries, without pressure."
"But then you wouldn’t get to experience all the miraculous things about being human."
"I really want to become a bird! Flying around all day long."
The ghosts were unburdened, as they originally came for reincarnation; they could accept whatever outcome. The Great Maelstrom was like the furnace of the world of death, providing them with the opportunity for rebirth from ashes.
Wei Shiyue flew around the Great Maelstrom, ensuring that there was no presence of Pomorty, and then she flew back to Farosa and the others.
"The laws of death are deeply rooted. If Pomorty is not defeated, they cannot be altered, meaning that returning to the human world can only be achieved by jumping into the Great Maelstrom for rebirth." Wei Shiyue saw that some ghosts had already run toward the Great Maelstrom.
The process seemed very simple; those ghosts leaped in and were immediately sucked away by the infinite gravitational pull of the Great Maelstrom, entering an unknown and bizarre stage. Without personal experience, it’s completely unclear what the view inside the Great Maelstrom is.
"..." Farosa pondered, taking out the Godslayer Weapon, finding it unusually active, seemingly due to the dense death aura here.
"We’ve turned the Afterlife World upside down, all the ghosts have come out to wander, even Pomorty has opened the passageway, meaning the Hollow Infant crisis has been resolved." Yao Guang was quite optimistic.
Just then, the ground suddenly shook violently.
"Pomorty!" Farosa jumped back.
A rift suddenly opened from the void in the sky of the Afterlife World!
A pitch-black large hand single-handedly propped open the rift, from which a giant skeletal face rapidly emerged, then, with the rift expanding again, the skeleton giant god clad in black garments crawled out, with Nether Flames burning inside its bones.
The Death Giant God thus manifested!
It stood over 450 meters tall, exceptionally massive. It extended its left hand, drawing a black giant scythe from its back, and as it moved, the immensely powerful death aura spread out.
"Roar—" Wei Shiyue let out an unbearable wail, trembling under the intense pressure of the death aura, as the originally silvery-white scales began to wither, revealing the true appearance of the undead dragon.
"Ugh—" Yao Guang collapsed directly; once the power of death spread, Yao Guang, who was closest to the concept of "living person," found it difficult to resist.
"Sister!" Easter clung closely to Farosa, feeling herself being engulfed by death.
"..." Farosa remained calm, sensing the Rainbow Cloak fading away.
It was terrifying; Pomorty had not yet made a move, but merely its manifestation was enough to weaken Farosa’s protective Divine Power.
The ghosts trembled like flickering candles in the wind, as if they would disappear at any moment, even the largest among them, Hosoda Yoshiyuki, was totally engulfed by Pomorty’s death aura, unable to resist and barely holding out.
The Cyber Specter was the only existence completely unaffected, it ascended into the air, with the Power Engine roaring, ready for battle.
"Farosa... you all are really swift and ruthless." Pomorty’s voice thundered, shaking the entire Afterlife World.
"Finally it’s time to settle with death itself." Farosa sneered. After years of planning, preparation, and accumulation, even the laws of death became their target; this result was nothing short of an epic.
"You don’t understand how magnificent the power of death is. I take the soul of whoever I wish." Pomorty said disdainfully.
"If you hadn’t shown up, we might have had some trouble. But now that you seek your own death, we’ll have to slay you as we did Elride." Farosa said languidly.
"—Is that so?" Pomorty shrieked from its hollow skeletal face.
Then Pomorty roared, swooping down with its mouth wide open, devouring thousands upon thousands of ghosts along its path, including the dark soul Yoshiyuki Hosoda, who was swallowed without any resistance, unable even to make a sound!
Tens of thousands of ghosts crumbled instantly under the pressure of the Netherworld Giant God!
After devouring a large number of souls, it wielded the scythe in its left hand, sweeping through the formation of ghosts, crushing and absorbing them entirely, reducing all ghosts to bone fragments and remnants swept away.
Then, the Great Maelstrom also closed completely, no longer spinning, with cries of ghosts emanating from it; it seemed those who had jumped into the Great Maelstrom were suffering agonizing torment a thousandfold! As if what they jumped into was not the true Great Maelstrom, but a flesh-grinding millstone!
Farosa felt the pressure multiplying, looking up at Pomorty, it had just consumed an unknown number of ghosts, its body expanding significantly.
Pomorty’s skeletal form was covered in a black robe, with the death aura drifting around like smoke, its eyes flashing with completely eerie and wicked light, its left hand gripping the black giant scythe, while its right hand was entirely empty, leaving only a vacant sleeve.
"Then let me show you what it’s like to be ’killed’ by ’yourself’." Farosa gripped the Godslayer Weapon tightly.
"Farosa, ah, Farosa." Pomorty mocked, "Do you dare use my weapon against me?"
"This is not your weapon, it’s merely made with your claws." Farosa said disdainfully.
"Is that so?" Pomorty raised the empty right sleeve, from which black tendons and nerves extended like countless chains, calling for its "right hand" to return.
The Godslayer Weapon was instantly snatched from Farosa’s hand and returned to Pomorty’s hand.
