Chapter 364: Chapter 364: Resolution
Everyone heard it and couldn’t help but fall over, then burst into laughter.
Thinking of the current atmosphere, they forced themselves to hold back.
Ge Sanni heard it too, and forgot to cry, looking at Yang Peimin somewhat dumbfounded. This works?
Yang Peimin still had a hint of concern on her face, “How are you feeling? Are you feeling better? I told you, knowing full well you’re pregnant, you shouldn’t get so agitated. Do you still need to go to the hospital?”
Ge Sanni regained her composure, glanced at her with a complex expression, and said softly, “Pei Min, I really don’t have any money. To tell you the truth, my family only sends me ten yuan a month. Even with that, it’s barely enough to keep food on the table at home. Suddenly having to come up with this much money, where am I supposed to find it? Pei Min, I really know I was wrong. I won’t dare do it again next time. Please have mercy on me, have mercy on the child in my womb. I’ll wash it clean for you, I’ll absolutely clean the smell too, okay?”
“Pei Min, how can your heart be so hard? Sanni knows she’s wrong, won’t you forgive her?”
Jiang Xin, that annoying fly, had come back again.
Yang Peimin turned around to face her directly, “Mr. Ge’s debt I can let her sign an IOU for, to be paid back in installments, but you, Comrade Jiang, since you’re so compassionate and willing to help others, must be a kind-hearted generous person with a saint’s heart. Didn’t I just say? I happen to have two quilts. You and Mr. Ge could each take one. That way, you’d help her lighten the debt burden and get a bargain out of it too, don’t you agree?”
Jiang Xin was left speechless.
The roommates who had been previously persuaded by Jiang Xin under the pretense of justice were almost unable to hold back their laughter.
You’re all about justice, right? You’re so considerate of others, right? Here’s your chance; you pay the compensation. If not, are all the morals and ethics you spout nothing but lies?
Ge Sanni also looked at Jiang Xin, her face still streaked with tears, a picture of pitifulness.
Jiang Xin also came back to her senses, frowned, and said to Yang Peimin with a calm face, “Pei Min, this isn’t something to make a big deal out of. Between roommates, do you really need to be so pedantic? In my opinion, there’s no need to compensate for the quilt. Just wash it and let it go. If you still can’t accept that, we have no choice.”
Yang Peimin shook her head, “I can’t accept that. If Comrade Ge Sanni also thinks this way, then I have no choice. These two quilts cost my husband a month’s salary, and I have to buy new quilts on top of that. Even though my family can usually afford meat, money doesn’t grow on trees for us either. I can’t afford this loss. In that case, I’ll have to hand this matter over to the school administration.”
“What?” Jiang Jin’s eyes widened in disbelief as he exclaimed, “You’re actually going to bother the school administration over such a trivial matter? Do you have any sense of camaraderie at all? Are you trying to make a mortal enemy? We’re going to see each other morning and evening.”
Ge Sanni also shook her head anxiously, “No, Pei Min…” and started crying again. If this goes to the school administration, what will become of her reputation? Worst case scenario, she might even get disciplined.
Yang Peimin sighed, “I don’t want to either, it’s just that Comrade Jiang’s words leave me no choice.”
Ge Sanni turned to look at Jiang Xin, “Sister Xin, I’m begging you, please don’t say another word. Look at the state I’m in. I really won’t be able to go on living…”
Jiang Xin, realizing she was being targeted, was so angry she almost lost her composure, “Sanni, I’m trying to help you.”
“Since you want to help her, just take on half of her debt, and on account of our roommate relationship, I’ll give you some time to prepare,” said Yang PeiMin indifferently.
Feng Erxi felt that this wasn’t appropriate. Although Jiang Xin could be somewhat assertive, she was well-intentioned, so she persuaded Yang PeiMin, “PeiMin, you see, Jiang Xin doesn’t want to create a conflict with you either, so that’s why she spoke up a bit more.”
Yang PeiMin looked at Feng Erxi, “Sister Feng, I’m just speaking my mind, you know me. I have a thing about cleanliness, I can’t use something that others have used. There’s nothing I can do about that, and I’ve really made a big concession here. I’ve lost twenty-five yuan for nothing, and that’s a month’s worth of food expenses for me. You don’t want me to suffer an even greater loss, do you? We’re all roommates; you can’t just take their side. Come take a look at these two quilts of mine, they’re brand new. People here know I’ve only stayed a few days; not even a thread has been pulled out. You can even open them up and see the cotton inside yourself, it’s all new. You’d have to pay extra for these in the store. I’ve already given in on this matter, am I supposed to just accept my bad luck?”
Feng Erxi was at a loss for words.
Many of the roommates nodded in agreement.
Yang PeiMin turned to Jiang Xin, “Comrade Jiang, it’s not that I’m heartless, but you have to consider my situation too. Life is hard for everyone. Make your decision quickly, classes are about to start, and I don’t have time to be arguing with you here. Standing too long isn’t good for me either; don’t make me collapse from anger. If that happens, you’ll owe more than just the cost for the quilts, you’ll owe for medical expenses as well.”
Jiang Xin’s face turned an angry shade of iron blue. Then she realized that all the roommates in the dorm were watching her, expecting her to make a statement, and she felt a hiccup in her heart.
Even Ge San Ni looked at her with anticipation.
Jiang Xin’s chest heaved several times as she suppressed her frustration and said through clenched teeth to Yang PeiMin, “PeiMin, do you really want to do this? By acting like this, you won’t make any friends. I’m advising you, don’t be so short-sighted. After leaving here, we’ll all be talents. Are you sure you’ll never need a friend’s help?”
Yang PeiMin nodded, “Don’t worry, I wouldn’t come to seek Comrade Jiang’s help for anything.”
Jiang Xin stared at her steadily, “Fine, I’ll cover half of Sanni’s part. I’ll write you an IOU first.”
Yang PeiMin agreed, “Okay, have it signed for me; oh right, also make clear the repayment date. I don’t want this dragging on forever. Pay back within three months. If it’s not repaid by then, add interest, one yuan a day. You must understand, I’ve lost so much money so unexpectedly; I don’t even know how I’ll explain this to my spouse.”
Jiang Xin sat down begrudgingly to write the IOU.
Ge San Ni sat beside her gratefully and whispered a thank you, “Thank you, Sister Xin, you’re really a good person!”
Jiang Xin nodded stiffly without looking at her again.
Ge San Ni was unconcerned. After all, someone was taking on the debt for her. Thinking it over, she realized that Yang PeiMin did have a point. The quilt was soft and comfortable; if she could buy it for half the price, it wouldn’t be a bad deal for her. Her quilt was indeed too hard and thin and needed replacing.
Yang PeiMin didn’t bother with them anymore. With their IOU in hand, they wouldn’t dare provoke her again.
The other roommates realized that the usually mild-mannered Yang PeiMin was not to be trifled with. They began to dislike Ge San Ni even more, with many deciding to keep their distance from her in the future.
Ge San Ni was oblivious to being blacklisted and couldn’t help smiling as she thought of Yang PeiMin’s warm quilts.
Jiang Xin caught a glimpse of this out of the corner of her eye and felt as uncomfortable as if she had swallowed a fly.
