CHAPTER 381: CHAPTER 381: COME OVER

Yang PeiMin couldn’t bear it anymore and took a nap, not long after, it was dawn.

The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Shen Yiguang. The fellow had already changed his clothes and shaved his beard clean, looking handsome and sharp all around.

Yang PeiMin felt she couldn’t look away for a moment.

Shen Yiguang sat by her bedside, "Awake?"

"Where’s the child?"

Shen Yiguang paused, caught off guard, and reached out to flick her nose, "So now the first thing you care about is your son, huh?"

Yang PeiMin honestly nodded, "Of course, he is flesh of my flesh. If I don’t miss him, who would I miss?"

"The child will be sent over later, let’s wash up and have breakfast first."

Shen Yixiang and Luo Dahua had him take her back, and they were still waiting for them to bring breakfast over.

First, he helped her over to the bathroom. She didn’t realize how painful it was until she moved; in the end, Shen Yiguang had to carry her, and Yang PeiMin joked with him, "You’ll have to take care of two kids now."

Shen Yiguang: "My pleasure."

Just as they were getting settled, they heard footsteps and voices outside the door. Shen Yiguang had just helped Yang PeiMin sit down when the door was knocked. Yang PeiMin knew it was the breakfast delivery.

Shen Yiguang wasn’t in a rush, he let Yang PeiMin lie down; she couldn’t sit up anyway because the wound was still painful. He covered her with a blanket before going to open the door.

The door wasn’t fully opened when it was pushed from the outside, and a resonant voice rang out, "Minmin, Mom is here to see you."

Before Shen Yiguang could finish saying Mom, the person in front of him had already breezed past his line of sight and rushed straight to Yang PeiMin’s bed.

Following them, Yang Peiying, Shen Yixiang, Luo Dahua with the two children, and Yang Peihua all came in.

Yang PeiMin grasped Zhang Minghua’s hand excitedly, surprised beyond belief, "Mom, how did you get here?" It was such a long journey, and she had even made an early call to tell her not to come.

Zhang Minghua patted her hand, gazing steadily at her with a happy yet pained expression, "How could Mom be at ease? You must be exhausted. Let’s hurry up and eat breakfast, then sleep some more. You need to catch up on some rest." She had planned on coming, but things at home had kept her busy until she managed to arrange everything recently. Two days ago, she had a nightmare in which her eldest daughter died in childbirth, scaring her so much her heart nearly stopped. She immediately got up, roused her husband and son, and insisted on buying tickets to come over. Along the way, she was restless and dared not fall into a deep sleep, always afraid of having such a dream again.

Zhang Minghua called Yingzi to bring over the food so that Yang PeiMin could eat.

Yang PeiMin looked Zhang Minghua over and noticed she seemed washed and tidied up, so she couldn’t help asking, "Mom, when did you and Yang arrive?"

"We got here a little after five. It wasn’t light outside yet, so we waited in the train station until six o’clock before we took the bus to the address we talked about before. We ran into Yingzi, who was about to bring over breakfast, and Sister-in-law Lu let us change clothes and wash up before coming together."

"Did you all have something to eat?"

Shen Yixiang replied, "Yingzi, Sister-in-law Lu, and I already ate, but your aunt and Yang said they were in a hurry to see you and just had two buns on the bus."

Yang PeiMin told Zhang Minghua and Yang Peihua to sit down and have a bit more to eat with her.

Zhang Minghua wouldn’t agree no matter what, "How can I eat more? Those two buns I just had filled me up. By the way, where’s my eldest grandson?"

Everyone in the room widened their eyes searching for the child.

Luckily, at that moment, a nurse brought the baby over.

Zhang Minghua, nimbly stepping ahead, took the child into her arms, her eyes fixating on her grandson wrapped in swaddling clothes, her smile narrowing her eyes into slits as she continuously praised, "Look, look, this child is so adorable, so plump and fair, with such big eyes, so lively. He looks exactly like his mother when she was little! Those brows, that nose, and these lips, how similar!"

Shen Yixiang edged closer too, and couldn’t help but say, "I think he resembles me and my brother a bit."

Zhang Minghua glanced up at her and laughed with a "heh heh," "Sure, he resembles everyone."

Yang Peimin didn’t bother with them and had Shen Yiguang feed her breakfast, which was ginger chicken eggs boiled with brown sugar. She ate with a furrowed brow, and Shen Yiguang blew on it to cool it down, "Let’s just endure it for now, it’ll get better in a few days."

Soon, the baby was hungry, closed his eyes, and let out a couple of cries. Zhang Minghua immediately took him over to Yang Peimin, "The baby is hungry, do you have milk yet?"

Luo Dahua brought over a warm towel, Shen Yiguang and Yang Peihua left the room, giving space to the women.

It got a little better after that. The baby took a few sips, let go, was switched to the other side, took another two sips, and stopped, apparently because there was none available. They had no choice but to mix some formula for him.

No sooner had he eaten than the little guy had a dirty diaper, and everyone eagerly set to changing it—especially Zhang Minghua, who looked even happier upon seeing the characteristic feature between the baby’s legs.

Yang Peimin quietly watched, sensing that this fervor would take some time to fade away.

She fell asleep again afterward, but it was the pain that woke her.

It was a pain in the lower abdomen, not any less than when she was giving birth. She couldn’t help but groan and moan.

Shen Yiguang immediately leaned in, anxiously asking, "What’s wrong? Is it the wound that hurts?"

Yang Peimin shook her head.

Zhang Minghua hurried over as well and said, "Oh my, there is such pain sometimes, and when it comes, it’s unbearable. Why don’t we ask the doctor to see if there’s anything that can be done?"

When the doctor came, he said it was uterine contractions, which are natural after childbirth. As for methods, there were none to be had—one could only grit one’s teeth and bear it, and it would pass eventually.

Yang Peimin felt as though she could not endure it and tried to twist her body to alleviate some of the pain. Shen Yiguang held her hand, feeling terrible for her, "Don’t move, you might hurt the incision. Bite on my hand instead."

After speaking, he placed his hand up to Yang Peimin’s hand. She did not hold back, feeling a sense of injustice—women not only endure menstruation but also pregnancy and childbirth, and even afterward, they have to deal with contractions. Men had it far too comfortable.

It was about time he shared in some of her pain.

Zhang Minghua watched from the side, disapproving, but seeing her daughter in this state, she felt distressed and eventually turned away to play with her grandson.

At the hospital, only Zhang Minghua and Yingzi remained. The three others had gone back to catch up on sleep, and although people had urged Zhang Minghua to go back as well, she just wouldn’t listen; there was nothing they could do about her.

Yang Peimin stayed in the hospital for five days before she was discharged. The room at home was tidied up, fresh and clean. She felt a great sense of relief returning from the hospital, where she had slept uncomfortably in the stuffy and poor air.

Shen Yiguang only had three days of leave and had to return to the army base, although he drove back every day.
