Chapter 390 Lele
CHAPTER 390: CHAPTER 390 LELE
Everyone stayed for a meal before leaving.
Zhang Minghua was very happy.
Her eldest daughter had previously not been popular; from elementary to high school, among all the village children, she barely had one close friend. Although that girl wasn’t of the purest intentions, Zhang Minghua let them play together considering her daughter had no other friends.
Now, things had improved. Her daughter had grown up overnight. Not only had she been admitted to university, but she also had made so many friends who had come specially to visit her.
Zhang Minghua instructed Yang Peihua to buy chicken and vegetables, letting Yang Peiying prepare a full two tables of dishes to entertain Pei Min’s roommates.
Everyone left with a belly full of food, both amazed and in praise.
Shen Yiguang brought back good news this time—he had gotten a raise. Due to his recent assignments and merits, his salary had increased from 67 yuan to 86 yuan.
This was indeed a joyful occasion.
Zhang Minghua couldn’t stop smiling and kept saying he had worked hard.
However, he also casually mentioned that Shen Yixiang’s suitor, Lu Haijun, had relatives visiting.
Shen Yixiang and Lu Haijun’s affair, Pei Min had mentioned to him a few days ago.
Shen Yiguang was also angry. He couldn’t believe his sister was so stubborn and had even lied to his sister-in-law for an entire night to meet a man. It was utterly unacceptable. He had called Shen Yixiang for a talk, and she appeared as obstinate as ever. Just as Pei Min said, the more she was opposed, the more determined she became.
Lu Haijun, on the other hand, seemed unwaveringly loyal. It seemed the two had colluded, ready to resist their families to the end. Shen Yiguang planned to send Yixiang back to their hometown.
Indeed, like brother like sister. Yixiang wasn’t usually alert in other aspects, but as if she had prepared early, she had called Shen Erniu and Chen Guizhi about Lu Haijun’s situation.
The Shen elders didn’t object much to their daughter marrying a military man, but as Pei Min had thought, they were concerned about her marrying so far away—how often would they be able to see her in the future? Hearing that their son also objected, they disagreed as well.
Yixiang kept pleading relentlessly, painting a brighter picture of Lu Haijun. The old couple was undecided and considered asking their son again, but Yixiang cried, saying she didn’t want to leave now that she had a stable job and had become a group leader. She didn’t want to miss the chance with Lu Haijun, whom she liked. If she had to marry someone she didn’t like later, she thought she would regret it for life. Her words implied she wanted her parents’ blessing.
The elderly couple, always soft-hearted and especially fond of their youngest daughter, couldn’t withstand her tearful plea and nodded in agreement. They allowed her to date Lu but strictly forbade a swift marriage. Only after getting to know more about his family background and character could they marry. Yixiang readily agreed, simply asking to date Lu Haijun, promising to abide by any other conditions.
Later, they spoke to Shen Yiguang and even tried to persuade him, as he was nearby and could help keep an eye on things. If anything seemed wrong, it wouldn’t be too late to intervene.
Shen Yiguang rubbed his forehead with a headache.
From then on, Lu Haijun’s life in the military was not easy. Instead of the standard 10 kilometers others carried weights for during morning exercises, he had to do 20 kilometers. Often, his training assignments were much more than others. When asked about it, the response was merely that the higher-ups highly valued him and aimed to train him harder with such platitudes.
Lu Haijun knew clear as day that Shen Yiguang was testing him, but since he fancied his sister, he was willing to endure the hardship.
After observing for a while, although Shen Yiguang said nothing, he tacitly consented to Shen Yixiang’s affair with Lu Haijun. However, since the couple had just obtained their chance after overcoming many difficulties, they did not dare to act rashly. Both behaved compliantly, keeping to their own spheres and doing their respective duties without meeting each other. Whether there were any letters, Shen Yiguang pretended not to notice.
Now as Shen Yiguang mentioned that the Lu family had come to visit, Pei Min immediately perked up, seeing it as a chance to observe the Lu family’s situation closely.
Zhang Minghua, holding Lele, entered the room and heard this, then smiled and asked, "Yixiang is dating someone?"
Yang Peimin nodded, "It’s your son-in-law’s subordinate."
Zhang Minghua looked towards Shen Yiguang, "Since he’s your subordinate, he must be quite good."
Shen Yiguang also nodded, his expression indifferent, "He seems alright."
Zhang Minghua was somewhat surprised, "Whose family came with this young man?"
"His mother and sister came."
"Should we mention it to Yixiang?"
"We don’t need to say anything, wouldn’t she know?" Shen Yiguang raised an eyebrow, as none of those letters ever escaped his eye.
Yang Peimin glanced at him, "Be a bit more concerned, I can’t manage her affairs right now."
Although she was going to finish her postpartum period in a few days, she was tightly watched by Zhang Minghua; not allowing her to go anywhere or do anything, not even letting her hold the child for fear she might get tired.
Shen Yiguang nodded nonchalantly.
Zhang Minghua then changed the topic with a smile, "Today, Lele’s grip was so strong. Didn’t one of your classmates tease him? As soon as they extended a finger for him to hold, he wouldn’t let go. He even kicked someone with his little foot, scared them into jumping, such strength he has."
Yang Peimin was very interested, "Bring him over for me to see."
Now that the weather was hot, Lele was wearing a set of white cotton long-sleeve shirts, with his arms and legs stretched out. His eyes were a bit more open now, revealing double eyelids, and his eyebrows were still faint. It was clear, this child looked a lot like his father, but was much cuter and handsome. Yang Peimin held him in her arms, teasing him, "Lele, what fun things did you play with today?"
Of course, he wouldn’t answer her.
"Come and see Daddy."
Shen Yiguang stretched a finger out for him to hold, the little guy gripped it tightly, and even laughed when teased, revealing his toothless mouth, melting everyone’s heart.
Zhang Minghua was folding Lele’s diapers in the room, while telling her daughter, "Let Ah Guang hold him, you’ve been sitting for so long. Lean back and recline a little, don’t be careless, you’ll realize it when your back hurts later."
Helplessly, Yang Peimin handed the child to Shen Yiguang, who smiled silently at her.
Yang Peimin rolled her eyes at him, what was there to laugh about when she was practically growing grass from lying down so much.
But the next second, she burst out laughing.
Her wonderful son had peed, and through the diaper, wet his dad’s hand.
"Ha ha ha ha..."
Zhang Minghua looked over and laughed as well, "This little guy, just drank some water and he’s already peed." Saying this, she took a clean diaper and came to help change him.
Yang Peimin then said, "Mom told his dad to come, but it seems he still doesn’t know how. Teach him, otherwise, when you all go back, if his dad knows nothing, I’ll be worked to death."
