CHAPTER 10: THE YOUNG MASTER OF THE WOLFSBLADE FAMILY
"Well, it’s actually easy to know about the first information if you simply ask around. But since you’re here for that information as well, I’ll tell you for free." Gareth answered with a smile and proceeded to brief James on everything they knew about the artificer.
One detail stuck with James, Gareth said the artificer had remained in the city for years because he once mentioned he was waiting for a fated person.
’Am I really the Chosen One?’ That’s what James thought to himself when he heard it.
"He’s certainly an intriguing individual," James chuckled once Gareth finished.
"Yeah, I think so too," Gareth replied with a laugh.
After a moment, he raised an eyebrow and looked at James. "As for the Wolfsblade Family, are you asking on your own behalf, or are you representing the Steelheart Family?"
"As an individual." James smiled faintly, aware that the Steelheart Family was a regular client of Gareth’s.
He knew Gareth would normally only share the most recent developments with them since the last time they inquired had been a week earlier.
"Oh? If that’s the case..." Gareth launched into a rundown of notable events from the past months. He spoke for a while, ticking off names, incidents, and movements.
Around 15 minutes later...
After listening to a lot of information at once, James smiled viciously at one particular piece of information.
Three days ago the Wolfsblade had publicly exposed a betrayal and one of the named betrayers was Turner, the man who had once ambushed James and been told by the Platinum Knight to flee. However, they didn’t disclose the reason for an unknown reason.
"That’s it." James clapped his hands and got up, then asked Gareth calmly. "How much?"
"Ten Platinum-rank energy crystals." Gareth replied with a smile.
James nodded and waved his hand, taking out 10 Platinum-rank energy crystals from the inventory and putting them on the tables.
"Thanks. I’ll come again if I need more." James chuckled as he walked toward the door.
"You’re welcome, Young Master James." Gareth replied and took his jade pendant from his waist as someone had contacted him.
The moment he learned something from his subordinate, he smiled and thought to himself. ’Interesting.’
Gareth immediately got up from his seat and walked toward the door.
At James’s side, just as someone opened the front door for him, James stopped his walk when he saw a young man around his age standing two meters in front of the door.
He wore black clothes with the Wolfsblade insignia stamped on his chest. His messy short black hair swayed softly as if the wind had just passed by.
"Yooo, isn’t this the infamous talentless Young Master James of the Steelhearts?" The young man ridiculed James loudly, gathering the nearby people’s attention.
James calmly glanced at the young man in front of him for a second and started to walk out, intending to ignore the provocation. But the youth reached out and planted a hand on James’s shoulder, forcing him to stop.
James tilted his head, slapped the hand away casually, and asked with a composed tone, "Darik, what do you want?"
"Wow... look at this motherfucker. Since when do you act like this?" Darik gritted his teeth in anger.
"Since now, why?" James smiled faintly.
Darik immediately laughed and looked at James curiously. "Are you insane? Who gave you the guts to act so arrogantly in my territory?" The so-called Steelheart family that’s falling—"
Slap!
James slapped Darik’s face and said with a serious tone. "You can insult me however you want, but don’t you dare insult the honor of the Steelhearts."
The onlookers gasped at the sudden turn. No one had ever expected that James was so bold as to slap the Young Master of the Wolfsblade Family right in their territory.
Darik was stunned, blinking his eyes a few times in speechlessness. Even though he could block the slap easily since he was much stronger than James, who would’ve thought that James would dare to slap him?
Let alone doing it in this place, the place where the Wolfsblade Family resided in the center of Lycranor City.
He then came back to his senses and touched his cheek, still feeling the slight pain and shame, as there were a lot of people nearby.
"You piece of shit!" He bellowed out in anger and raised his hand as he wanted to slap James back.
Just as the hand was about to slap James, Nyxrael appeared beside James and stopped the hand.
"Slap him!" James ordered calmly.
Slap!
Nyxrael directly slapped Darik’s cheek with the back of his hand, sending him stumbling across the street.
The middle-aged man accompanying Darik moved to draw his sword, fingers already on the hilt, but froze when he heard James’ voice.
"Don’t unsheathe that sword if you don’t want to die." James said coldly.
"Kill them for me!" Darik shouted angrily.
The middle-aged man hesitated for a second but decided to draw his sword, thinking that James’s words were just an empty threat as no one would be so stupid enough to kill someone from the Wolfsblade Family in their territory.
Unfortunately for him, James was a cruel individual when it came to dealing with his enemies.
The moment Nyxrael saw the middle-aged man draw his blade slightly, he moved like a shadow, appearing before the man and sweeping his sword in a clean horizontal arc.
The man’s head separated from his body, his face frozen in stunned disbelief.
Nyxrael merely flicked his sword, cleaning it from the blood and sheathing it again.
"Should I kill him too?" Nyxrael asked with a calm expression.
"Hmmm... Should we?" James looked up at the sky, seemingly thinking about something as he placed his fingers on his chin.
