CHAPTER 725: CHAPTER 202 ALICE (REQUEST FOR MONTHLY VOTES)_2
Xu Shu shook his head, sighing that the ways of the world had declined and the hearts of people are no longer what they used to be, but he wasn’t about to make things difficult for a nun on duty.
Aixia walked ahead, her dazzling skirt swaying, moving through the imposing stone-pillared corridor and quickly led Xu Shu to a deeply situated, guarded secret garden.
She stopped in front of a middle-aged nun who appeared to be older and rather restrained, making the sign of a radiant triangle before she reported, "Please announce, Mr. Xu Shu, a High-level Prosecutor of the Judgement Department, has come to see Lord Bishop on a matter."
The middle-aged woman’s eyes seemed somewhat dull as she glanced at Xu Shu.
Xu Shu immediately produced his identification.
After examining it for a moment, she nodded and said, "Please wait."
She then turned and walked into the flower beds.
A few minutes later, the middle-aged nun returned and inquired, "The bishop is busy and has no time to see visitors. What is the matter you wish to report? I can relay it later for you."
She’s putting on quite an air... certainly not as approachable as Yu Mingluan...
No, I shouldn’t think this way, perhaps it’s just not the right time...
Xu Shu secretly scoffed in his mind, and after some deliberation, he said expressionlessly, "I’ve been entrusted by Yu Mingluan, the Bishop of Dawn Church, to find a person, her name is Alice."
"Alice?"
Surprise flickered over the middle-aged nun’s face, but she quickly masked it and amended her response, "I’m not authorized to make decisions on this matter. Let me ask the bishop again for you; please wait a moment."
Xu Shu hurriedly said, "Thank you, Sister."
The middle-aged nun gave Xu Shu another look, her icy gaze softening slightly as she said, "No need to be polite."
Then, she once again entered the garden in search of the elusive Lord Bishop.
This time, in less than a minute, she returned, bowed, and then said, "Mr. Xu, thank you for waiting. The bishop agrees, and he indicates that you may take Alice with you."
"Take her away?"
Xu Shu was visibly startled.
He had only planned to identify her, not to take her away.
What a joke, where would he find the time to take care of a child!
However, upon second thought, Xu Shu felt the atmosphere of the place was decidedly not very cheerful and Alice might not like it here; it might be better to take her back to the Dawn Church.
As Yu Mingluan’s stronghold, the Dawn Church could surely find a good place for his adopted daughter, or at worst, he could intervene and find someone to adopt her.
Indeed, the Archbishop died because of me, and he left behind this orphan; I cannot shirk this responsibility!
With this in mind, the words that had almost left his mouth took a turn, and Xu Shu said, "Thank you, Sister."
"Follow me, she’s in..." The middle-aged nun suddenly fell silent, her voice faltered before she continued, "She’s in the library; I’ll take you there."
Xu Shu did not ask further and simply followed the nun, walking past the garden to a white stone spiral staircase, ascending it.
The Starry Church was a standard domed structure, and this staircase led to the adjacent Magic Tower.
When they reached the top of the tower, there was a room arranged as a church in the center. The middle-aged nun asked Xu Shu to wait inside the church and went into a confessional next to the church, whispering something to another nun who was praying inside.
After a while, the latter nodded but did not get up, continuing to pray in place.
Xu Shu took this opportunity to look around, especially taking notice of the statue of the goddess.
He was quite curious to see what kind of deity the Starry Church would have.
It’s worth noting that the Dawn Church had no ’complete deity effigies,’ only the sun symbol representing the divine, and some statues of past Prophets and sages.
Upon inspection, Xu Shu felt somewhat startled.
The statue dedicated to the Star Goddess was unadorned by clothing, candidly revealing a perfect figure that produced a rippling sensation in one’s heart upon first glance.
Yet, as a ’divine,’ there seemed nothing wrong with Her lack of attire.
However, the only issue was the statue had no head.
What kind of deity effigy lacks a head?
This felt rather eerie... Is this normal? I should ask someone later...
Xu Shu withdrew his gaze, refraining from looking further.
The middle-aged nun returned, opened a side door, and pointed down the hallway to the end, saying:
"Miss Alice is in the library. We typically do not enter; you can speak with her directly, and if she has no objections, you may take her away. When leaving, just tell the... the librarian."
Naturally, she was referring to the nun praying in the confessional.
After speaking, the middle-aged nun left on her own.
Xu Shu thanked her and turned to go through the dim hallway with its black carpet, arriving at the door marked "Library." Finding the door unlocked upon turning the handle, he entered directly without foreplay.
The library wasn’t too large, about three hundred square meters, featuring an old-fashioned design, with a long table in the center, surrounded by rosewood shelves brimming with books, and more desks lined up against floor-to-ceiling windows.
No one sat at the central table, but nearly every desk in the perimeter was occupied.
The nuns sat quietly and serenely by the desks, some leisurely reading books, others diligently taking notes, conveying a sense of aspiration and vibrant life.
From here, one could see the entire city’s nightscape, decidedly a beautiful view.
