Dance Of The Dragons
Chapter 495 : Please Do Not Divorce Me!
CHAPTER 495: CHAPTER 495 : PLEASE DO NOT DIVORCE ME!
Fury pulsed through Zhang Fengxi like a venomous drop. With Xiao Huang thundering beneath him, he tore towards the Golden Dragon Palace, intent on confronting Xie Jianshen and demanding answers for the outrageous divorce edict.
Naturally, the Heavenly Emperor was not available unless urgent situations demanded it.
"This is urgent!" Supreme General barked at poor Head Eunuch Lu, who shook from head to toe before the alpha’s looming figure.
"B-b-but Supreme General, what is so urgent?"
"Do I need to tell you everything???" Zhang Fengxi glared at the beta and raised his tone in an intimidating manner.
Out came Jiang Muchen, who furrowed his brows at the interesting scene before him.
"Oi, Zhang Fengxi, have you recovered fully? Should you not take a look at the military barrages? I heard that they smell like horse shit..."
In response, Zhang Fengxi lunged at Jiang Muchen and grabbed his lapels.
"I need to speak to your mother. Now."
"His Majesty is busy," Jiang Muchen replied with a flat tone. "What are you bristling your fur for? Everyone is tired. Go back home and rest. Actually, I am about to go to Fuxi Palace as well. I only spoke to my Little Uncle a little yesterday. I really want to talk to him more..."
"Forget it!" Zhang Fengxi snapped.
Right now, nothing was more important than withdrawing this ridiculous edict!
By chance, Jiang Muchen’s eyes were drawn to the golden scroll clenched tightly in Zhang Fengxi’s hand.
Curiosity piqued, he inquired, "What is that?"
Zhang Fengxi, still fuming, unfurled the scroll with a flourish and thrust it in Jiang Muchen’s face. "Read this outrage! Read it!"
Jiang Muchen, mirroring Zhang Fengxi’s initial actions, scanned the document several times. Unlike the alpha tiger, however, pure joy radiated from the alpha lion as he raised his eyes to meet Zhang Fengxi’s.
"Is my Little Uncle divorcing you???" he exclaimed, his voice bubbling with barely contained glee.
Zhang Fengxi glared at Jiang Muchen, seemingly ready to pounce at the latter and wipe the insolent smirk off his face.
"What do you mean with that? Jianbao will NEVER divorce me! It’s your mother who gave him this stupid edict for whatever reason, forcing him to divorce me!"
Jiang Muchen arched a brow at Zhang Fengxi.
"Zhang Fengxi, if my mother issued this edict out on his own, he would have sent Head Eunuch Lu to Fuxi Palace to announce it."
"..."
Jiang Muchen was not wrong. Why did Xie Jianyu go home with the edict? The divorce edict should be announced in front of the married couple, and not given to one party only.
Wait... then...
Zhang Fengxi’s lips cracked open slightly, the revelation scraping his throat raw.
Could it be?
"In other words, it was Little Uncle himself who wanted the divorce, so naturally my mother granted it to him."
...
NOOOOOOOOO!!!
Zhang Fengxi fell to his knees and howled into both palms.
Jiang Muchen cleared his throat. Although he more than welcomed the news of the divorce, he and Zhang Fengxi were, after all, comrades who went through a lot of life-and-death situations together when they fought against the demonic forces. Not to mention Zhang Fengxi’s significant contributions to the empire. Therefore, Jiang Muchen decided to be nice to him.
"Look, Zhang Fengxi."
Jiang Muchen crouched next to Zhang Fengxi.
"..."
Zhang Fengxi peeled his hands off his face and stared at Jiang Muchen in disbelief.
"I mean, you were quite mean to my Little Uncle," Jiang Muchen explained. "And I am not even talking about what happened in your so-called ’previous’ life. I have seen the way you treat Little Uncle from a young age. You attacked him at Fuxi Palace out of nowhere one day because of Liu Wenyuan."
"..."
Zhang Fengxi swallowed hard.
Now that the memories came rushing back, he was suddenly no longer sure about his initial conviction.
How many atrocious deeds did Zhang Fengxi commit over the years to earn himself Xie Jianyu’s scorn?*
With a silent squeeze of his lips, Jiang Muchen reached out, his hand landing on Zhang Fengxi’s shoulders in a gesture meant to comfort him, but his good intention still failed to reach the Supreme General’s heart.
"Look, it seems that you took this edict away without properly discussing it with Little Uncle. I am not even married, but I know that you should talk it out with Little Uncle. Only he can cancel the edict."
... Talk to Xie Jianyu?
But...
"Go now, go."
Jiang Muchen pulled Zhang Fengxi to his feet and dragged him toward the palace gate.
Like someone who just lost one part of his soul, the Supreme General hauled himself on top of Xiao Huang and headed back to Fuxi Palace.
Behind him, Jiang Muchen had the audacity to shout one last thing at his back, "No worries, if you and Little Uncle really get divorced, we will all take good care of Mingrui and Junjie!"
"..."
Zhang Fengxi did not even have enough energy left to give Jiang Muchen a punch square across his jaw.
During the entire trip, the alpha tiger’s mind was nothing but a barren wasteland. Every attempt at thought sputtered and died, choked by the weeds of dread. Was his wife going to divorce him?
At Fuxi Palace, Xie Jianyu already waited for him.
Granted, the Crown Prince did not seem pleased to have Zhang Fengxi disappear all of a sudden. But the Zhang Fengxi who returned from outside was a shattered vessel, his nerves jangling like wind chimes in a storm.
Frowning, Xie Jianyu took a step closer and said, "Fengxi, what..."
He did not get to finish what he wanted to say because Zhang Fengxi threw the golden scroll, the royal decree at Xie Jianyu’s feet. He then prostrated himself before his wife and wailed out loud, "Wife, please forgive me! I was and am wrong! I deserve to die over and over again for all my transgressions to you in both lives! But please, please do not divorce me!!!"
