DC Comics: The Bookstore Witch
Chapter 61 61: Death Meets Milim
[3rd POV]
After a bit of time, with Milim talking with the Doctor for a little while, which the man seemed to find incredibly amusing, the Doctor and Rose had returned to the counter, books in their book bags, which they then used to stack the books onto the counter in front of them.
There was around 79 books, with 10 of them being romance books that Rose wanted to read, and the rest of them being books that the Doctor wanted, mostly science books, but there were also a few books on history from a few of the magical worlds, more specifically Harry Potter and Game of Thrones.
"Hmm? Starting to get into history now, Doctor?" Wanda asked, interested in why he chose these books out of all of them. They were a bit boring in comparison to most of the science books he had been choosing.
"Yep! I wish to see the history of other universes, as they are just so interesting! And so different too! With the history of Westeros being a book about an entirely new and completely unique continent! One that has dragons and all sorts of mythical creatures that I've never seen before" The Doctor said, excited to learn more about these worlds.
It wasn't everyday that you learned about worlds with magic and mythological creatures from myth and legend. And it wasn't everyday you learned that they were in fact real in those universes, albeit not as much as they used to be in the case of Game of Thrones. Since most of them were dead, besides what Daenerys herself had.
"Well I'm glad you're so interested! I should be getting some more books on the matter soon. I've got some customers who will be bringing more in sooner or later" Wanda responded, causing the Doctor to nod, excited to see what she could be bringing in. As pretty much every book Wanda had in her collection was interesting to the Doctor, at least when it comes to science, mathematics, history, and areas like that.
"So, does our credit cover this?" Rose asked, as she cut the Doctor off from going on an excited rant again. It was funny, but it also meant they'd be here a lot longer than they should be, and they had some things to do besides buying books.
"More than this, you could get another 15 books or so and you'd be fine. But I'll just add that to your credit for next time, so you can get more books next time you come around" Wanda responded, causing Rose to nod in understanding, while The Doctor grinned, pleased that he would be able to get even more books next time.
"Is there anything else you want to buy?" Wanda asked, as Milim planted herself into her seat next to Wanda. Rose glanced at her in amusement, as the girl was fiddling with a bookmark that she had snatched from the counter.
"Nope! We're all good. Have a good day, Wanda, Milim!" The Doctor said with a smile, as he walked off with Rose giving them a smile and wave, before walking off after him.
"How did you like it, Milim?" Wanda asked Milim, who looked up at her with a bright smile.
"It was fun! The Doctor guy is super interesting too! Kinda funny lookin though" Milim added the last part with a shrug. Wanda wanted to say otherwise, but she couldn't help but inwardly agree that he was a bit goofy, which Wanda knew was on purpose.
"Well I'm glad you did, love. He's a regular customer of mine. Ah, speaking of regular customers" Wanda said, looking to the door as in walked Death, who almost immediately looked at Milim with a raised eyebrow, while Milim looked at her in interest.
"Who's this, Wanda? A new straggler you've brought in?" Death asked, as she gazed at Milim. She could tell that she was far from normal, besides the obviously unique hair color that reminded her of Delirium a bit, she was also exuding an energy and power completely unique.
"Death, this is Milim, she's my daughter" Wanda responded, as Milim blinked at the name of the woman in front of her.
"Woah, are you really Death? I didn't realize Death was a person!" Milim exclaimed, very interested now. As her eyes sparkled upon gazing at the woman in front of her.
Death raised an eyebrow at the girl, but decided to respond.
"I am, and I didn't realize you had a daughter, Wanda" Death said. She could tell that they were not biologically related, of course, but she didn't expect someone like Wanda to take in a child.
"Mmhmm, I took her in a couple of days ago. She's adopted, as you can already guess" Wanda said, rubbing Milim's head as the girl leaned into her touch with a pleased giggle echoing from her.
"Well she's quite the cute little thing. Anyways, I'd like a few of your muffins please. Oh and a couple of cookies too" Death asked, as Wanda raised an eyebrow before nodding. Looking at Milim, she gave the girl a small smile as the pink haired half dragon got up and ran into the back.
With Milim being in the back room, Death was able to ask the question that had been on her mind the second she had seen Milim.
"She's not from around here, is she? Not even from this multiverse, now is she?" Death asked, genuinely curious about the background of Milim. She knew that the shop was connected to other multiverses, and even let in customers from around existence, but she didn't think that Wanda would adopt someone from another multiverse.
"Nope, she's from another multiverse. Which I do hope won't be a problem, will it?" Wanda asked, wanting to make sure that having Milim in the DC universe won't unravel it or something similar.
"It shouldn't be. As long as she doesn't cause some serious damage or problems, then I don't see why she would be a problem for anyone. It usually takes a lot for an individual to be considered a big enough problem that one of us would have to step in" Death responded, not seeing any reason as to why she would be a problem for the Endless.
Sure she seemed quite strong, but not enough to make the Endless do anything too serious. It would take many times more power for it to be a problem.
"Good, I'd rather not have to fight against any of you Endless folk" Wanda responded jokingly, but Death could tell that she was serious.
"As if we could ever beat you" Death said with a snort, knowing that Wanda was far above them in power. It would take Lucifer himself to contend with her, and even that was growing more and more unlikely the more Wanda learned and the more universes she traveled to.
She would likely be the second strongest being within this multiverse within the next year, with only the big guy himself being undoubtedly stronger than her, for obvious reasons.
Can't beat Omnipotence.
"I've got the muffins and cookies!" Milim exclaimed as she ran back out, a bag full of 4 muffins and 2 cookies in her hand. Death smiled at the girl as she brought out a book of her own, handing it to Wanda who blinked in surprise.
Looking down at the book, Wanda's eyes widened in surprise at what it was.
"This...you spoil me Death" Wanda said, a bright smile on her face. As the book? It was written by a VERY powerful race, perhaps the most powerful in the entire DC universe. It was written by...the Monitors.
"Yeah well, I was owed a gift by one of them, so I thought you could use a book of their own writing. I'd suggest you break it up into smaller books, as it's a lot larger on the inside than it looks" Death said, as Wanda nodded, sensing that it was hundreds of thousands of pages long, and some of that knowledge was better off not traded around, so she'd keep it to herself.
"Well, with a book like this, you can buy out the entire shop and then some. So choose whatever you want if you want any books" Wanda responded, not even sure what to say to the trade in, as Death smiled.
"I'll make sure to remember that. Well then, I'll be off, can't be away for too long. Have a good day Wanda, and you too little one" Death said with a smile, as she walked off, leaving Milim and Wanda alone.
"She's strong, isn't she Mama?" Milim asked, as she was able to tell that she was much stronger than her. With only her Mama herself being stronger.
"Very. But she's also a kind woman, so don't worry about her very much. Now, how would you like to help me make some cookies? I'll let you eat the left over cookie dough" Wanda said, as Milim's eyes sparkled and she nodded, dragging Wanda with her towards the back room.
As she did, Wanda just smiled, as she let her daughter drag her along, one thought on her mind as she did.
'...Where should I take Milim first?'
