Lucas had been leaning against the door.

    When Ariel suddenly pulled bit /bopen, he swayed a little, frowning as he looked up at her. His face carried the flush of alcohol. He was even holding a bottle in his hand.

    Yet the instant he saw Ariel, the gloom between his brows dissolved.

    Bracing himself on the doorframe, he studied her face and slowly smiled. “I suddenly missed you. This ce was hard to find, you know. Took me a while to track down.” 1

    Lucas was drunk.

    Ariel’s expression stayed cold. She knew he had bnever /bbeen one for heavy drinking, and she hated this uninvited visit.

    “Please don’t disturb my neighbors. Stop knocking and go home.”

    She didn’t n to entertain him. Turning, she started to shut the door.

    Lucas saw her resistance clearly. For a split second, it was like a jolt to his mind, snapping him awake. He lifted his hand to block the door. “Aren’t you going to exin yourself? Why are you living here alone?

    Where’s Jayson? Are you two separated?”

    The thought thrilled and hurt him all at once.

    Ariel gave him nothing, but that was fine. At least things with Jayson weren’t perfect either. That was enough to make Lucas feel alive again.

    He could still remember the rush of excitement when he discovered Ariel wasn’t living with Jayson anymore. Without a second thought, he rushed over.

    “What’s it to you?” Ariel didn’t like talking about anything with drunks; it was meaningless. She looked at him coldly. “Don’t bother me again, Mr. Sanderson.”

    Her icy tone dragged Lucas back to reality. He faltered for a moment before taking in that downright merciless look on her face. “So you two really do have problems, huh? Tell me, are you divorcing him? Wait. Or is it already over?”

    He was frighteningly sharp about these things.

    His eyes burned into Ariel, filled with love, hate, and obsession. He was so obsessed that he wanted to throw everything else aside.

    Ariel’s patience snapped. She tried to m the door without another word.

    But Lucas saw iting. Her indifference bcut /binto him like a de. The pain was so sharp it reddened

    He shoved the door wide with his leg and stepped inside before wrapping a hand around the back of Ariel’s neck. “Ari, I don’t care about the past. Wipe him clean from your mind now. You were always meant to be with me.”

    He had always loved her. He couldn’t allow her to hold another man in her mind and body.

    That thought consumed him. He was seized by a mad desire to im her. Whether she loved him or hated him, she still had to belong to him.

    Lucas was strong. Before Ariel could react, he pulled her overpletely.

    The desire in his eyes terrified her. She shoved at him, furious. “Lucas! Don’t act like a madman! Let go of

    me!”

    She knew exactly what he intended. But her body was weak, leaving her unable to struggle at all. Her face had gone pale.

    When Lucas noticed her fierce resistance, the ache in his chest twisted tighter, agitating his very nerves. He was just about to kick the door shut when a gust of cold wind rushed in from behind.

    His arm was yanked away, and before he could react, a fist smashed into his face. His bone seemed to crack under the blow.

    Lucas stumbled back into the shoe cab. His phone slipped from his pocket andnded by Ariel’s feet. She hadn’t even processed what happened when a hand braced her shoulder. Startled, she looked up into Jayson’s face, which was colder than she had ever seen it.

    He was staring at Lucas. After steadying her, he strode forward and struck again, mming a fierce punch before Lucas could regain his footing.

    The sound of it hitting flesh was enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.

    Lucas snapped back to himself. His expression twisted dark as he snatched up the bottle in his hand and swung it toward Jayson’s head.

    Ariel nearly screamed.
