Dead at Heart
Inside 619
Chapter b619 /b
This was a gamble on Jayson’s part. He knew that Ariel couldn’t avoid a political review when joining the national research engineering team. Letting her go through it without interference was a bold gamble even he couldn’t fully exin.
At the core, he wanted to know whether she still had feelings for him. But her indifference was right
there, in as day.
The pain he had buried deep in his heart for years began to ache again. 1
“Eat first. We’ll have plenty of time to talkter.” Jayson turned around and opened the meal box, making
a small gesture of concession.
Ariel considered herself calm enough today. She had no intention of arguing with Jayson. By now, everything was clear. The schools of hope offered some exnation, and Jayson’s string of actions now
had context.
However, these weren’t enough for her to forget the suffering she had been through.
“Your way of doing things terrifies me. You always quietly strike without a word. Jayson, there’s no going back for us.” Her voice was gentle. She was merely stating facts.
Constion after harsh treatment counted for nothing.
Ariel looked at Jayson. “I’ve officially joined the 719 Military Aircraft Base. Once I sort everything there,
we can deal with this properly.”
The sudden re–up of this issue was a headache. It left her stuck right in her critical period.
If this escted, it would spark controversy within the government.
The project she was involved in was urgent. There was no way they could wait over a month for her to finish the paperwork and resubmit before proceeding with the project.
She had already been granted an exception once, so she didn’t want to put the higher–ups in a difficult position.
Besides, due to her condition, she didn’t want to cause any unnecessary friction for anyone or anything.
Under the bright indoor light, Jayson’s eyes were dark. He didn’t respond to her words directly. He continued unpacking the meal box one by one and even set out her favorite chocte pudding. “This is made by the pastry chef you liked the most from Larkin Manor. It’s made with less sugar.”
After saying that, he turned to her. “This is my fault. I’ll take responsibility for any of your feelings. Focus on your work first. I’ll send you my personal informationter. Let’s talk after your work is stable.”
Ariel didn’t respond.
Jayson set out the cutlery and slowly said, “Let’s give each other some time. Ariel, you can hate me however you want. I’ll take it all.”
He didn’t pester her, and there was no need to debate anything at this moment.
He turned around decisively, pushed the door open, and closed it behind him.
The room fell silent once again.
Ariel stared at the two dishes on the table. They were both her favorites, without a trace of scallions she
was allergic to.
She suddenly remembered the time she got sick at the hotel. Jayson had ordered food with scallions for
her, and she had to pick around before eating.
Now, she was being cared for, but she couldn’t stomach the food. In the end, she didn’t take a single bite.
But she felt the thoughtfulness behind that parcel from afar. She decided to keep it.
At a critical moment like this, her situation with Jayson would have to be handled carefully. This was
precisely a time when she couldn’t afford to slip up.
After a day of rest, Ariel received a WhatsApp message from Chad in the evening.
“Something happened to Jaysonst night. He stood up an international client at thest minute. I heard rumors that on his way back, he had some kind of ident. Someone he’d crossed before came after him,
and it’s said he almost got into a car crash.”
