CHAPTER 296: CHAPTER 296

After Aaron left, Maya returned to her master.

"Master, it looks like trouble is brewing", she said.

She knew with her master’s strength, she could hear what she and Aaron spoke. So, there was no need to reiterate what happened.

"You were right. Unless those five have done something or are about to do something bad, they wouldn’t have run after the boy identified himself. They could have thought that he was trouble and could have been afraid, but that boy was wearing his badge, clearly visible, and if what he said about identifying himself was true, then those five are definitely trouble", Serana agreed with Mary.

"So, what are we going to do, Master?" Mary asked.

"We? We do nothing, Mary. Just do what we have been doing before", Serana said.

"Master, but if they are cultists, then lives can be at stake", Mary said with tension in her words, worrying about the possible deaths that could happen.

"Mary, remember what I said when you started as my student?" Serena asked.

Mary sighed, "Yes, master".

"Good", Serana said, and sighed, rubbing Mary’s head, "Mary, we five were called Gods, but we aren’t. If not for the morale’s sake, I wouldn’t have accepted that role. If people become too dependent on us, they will forget how to protect themselves".

"It was not a prediction but a fact. You remember what happened when one of us became too involved in protecting the people? No one wants that situation to repeat itself".

Mary nodded in understanding.

When she joined as a disciple to her master, she asked her master about why the human gods were not seen easily, even when a lot of calamities appeared.

They could wipe out the cults if they wanted to, but didn’t.

The reason was simple. If they act every time the alliance bleeds, people would start to get too cosy, and wouldn’t develop correctly. They would push everything onto the Human Gods and become complacent.

Whenever trouble arises, they would think that the Human Gods would solve it, and would do nothing about it. Such a thing is not suitable for the progress of a society.

A society can’t develop if it depends on a single person or an entity for its development, protection, or anything. The society would collapse as soon as that person or entity disappears.

They can depend on such people for guidance and protection from dangers they cannot defend against. However, if the entity is involved in every small matter, the scenario in the future would be worse than if they hadn’t stepped in for everything.

When Mary asked her master, this was the answer she got, and Mary knew that what her master said was true.

Even if there was almost no one who could threaten her master, except for the few who were at the same stage as her, that doesn’t mean that in this vast universe, there are none.

Under Serena’s mentorship, she learned that there are beings outside of this world. The secret realms are, after all, parts of destroyed worlds that latched onto a living world for their survival.

So, there is a high chance that beings that are far superior to her master or companions exist in the vast universe. If one day, something happens to them, then it would become relatively easy to erase the entire alliance, even if low-ranking creatures are the ones attacking them.

The Alliance has to become strong collectively, not depend solely on a single or a few individuals.

Serena looked at Mary’s saddened face, "Don’t worry. I said that I won’t involve myself, but that doesn’t mean you can’t, and if things escalate to a high degree, I would step in to help", she said with a smile.

Mary smiled, hearing that. She is not a weak professional as she was before. She has reached Rank-5 and can be considered an Elite. If the Cults were planning something here in Rock City, the danger wouldn’t be too high.

It’s just a Tier-1 city. So, the importance is not high. The only reason the cults would be interested was just to cause chaos.

Also, her master had already promised that she would step in if things escalated. So, there was no need to worry much.

"Thank you, master", Mary thanked her master.

Though no longer her home, Rock City was still where she was born and grew up for almost two decades. There are too many people who have known to live here and too many memories about the city that she can’t forget.

This was something that Serena understood too. She wanted her student to know that no one can keep everything that they are fond of, not even people.

Most of her friends would disappear from the world in a few decades, while she would live for years, centuries. She needs to know the grief of losing people, but Serena didn’t want her to feel too bad for the loss.

If that happens, she would stop even trying to improve, which is not good.

It was also the reason why she agreed to take her to Rock City. She knew that the cults would one day or another cause mayhem in the city, and that would be the best time for her growth, her proper growth.

Here, there are people that she knew, but not as familiar as her family. Even if a few losses happen, she would be sad, then she would pull herself to fight the cults with renewed vigour.

"Come, first we need to find out what was happening with those five", Serena said, and then both disappeared from the place.

Alliance Base...Mayor’s Mansion...

While the master and student were discussing about what had just happened, Aaron went to collect the other four. It was not easy to carry all five, but he did.

He could bring out his undead to carry them, but it could cause an unnecessary commotion. Even tamed monsters were not used casually while in the city.

If it were a big city, no one would have cared much about the summons, but still, the undead cause unease among the living. So, one can think about the fear and possible commotion that can be caused among the people.

Though it can be resolved, it would be just a waste of time. He could use his high attributes to carry them and reach the Alliance Base faster. It’s just that he would feel like a labourer.

Even though that was the case, he did that and arrived at the base before anyone nearby could register what happened.

Aaron arrived at the receptionist, who was clearly busy with something.

Rock City is not a city that comes under Priority One. So, the resources, personnel, and everything allocated were minimal.

There was only one receptionist, the same receptionist that Aaron met weeks ago when he registered for the city patrol.

Aaron first rang the bell on the desk to get the receptionist’s attention.

"Hello, there is a delivery for you", Aaron said as he dropped the five bound guys near the receptionist.

The receptionist looked at Aaron first, not understanding what he said, but when he looked at the place where the sound came from, as if something had been dropped, he was shocked.

He saw five grown men, tied up like a sack of potatoes.

"Who are those?" the receptionist asked.
