Deliberately Approaching
Chapter 129 Eyes Under the Sunglasses
CHAPTER 129: CHAPTER 129 EYES UNDER THE SUNGLASSES
Li Zishen had returned and was now holding a cup of honey ginger water. His face bore no trace of a smile, for he had overheard most of what Tang Xiaowan had said.
He paused for a few seconds before slowly pulling out his cell phone.
"After handling the matter, conduct a thorough investigation of everyone at Li Garden, including Bie Yuan, and follow the rules without leniency."
"Yes, got it."
The message was for Bai Long; not wanting to disturb Tang Xiaowan, he had purposely set his phone to silent mode.
Li Zishen had known about Lin Ping’s last clandestine drugging, which is why he had sent Chen Xin to secretly handle it and force the remaining pills down her throat.
He hadn’t taken Lin Ping’s life but had caused her to suffer severe physical damage, leaving her with a significant health condition.
Concerning the radishes, Li Zishen had also been puzzled. He didn’t understand why Tang Xiaowan always rushed to the back door to wait for the vegetable delivery driver, as if she was very eager. It turned out the radishes handed to her had issues, so she had no choice but to fetch them herself.
Ironically, her extreme measures had led Li Zishen to misinterpret her actions as a change of heart, eventually resulting in the dismissal of the delivery driver.
Xiao Wan, I’m sorry.
I’m right by your side, yet I couldn’t protect you completely, so it’s no wonder you don’t trust me.
Just this once, I promise.
After calming down, Li Zishen quickly strode into the dining room, his eyes no longer clouded with gloom but filled with deep affection and a doting tone.
"Xiao Wan, come, drink this soup."
"Honey ginger water?"
"Don’t worry, I’ve picked out all the pieces of ginger."
Tang Xiaowan suddenly bit her lower lip and shook her head vigorously.
Her large almond-shaped eyes blinked rapidly, as if pleading, looking incredibly pitiable.
Having just recovered from a wave of discomfort, she felt queasy at the mere sight of such liquid, let alone drinking it—just the smell made her feel ill.
"This is personally cooked by me, and I guarantee there isn’t any odd taste. Come on, do me the honor, just a few sips, alright?"
Tang Xiaowan frowned, "Alright then."
The Yixing clay pot retained heat well; despite some delay, the beverage was still piping hot when she drank it.
A slightly spicy taste, sweet without being cloying.
Li Zihan gave a mischievous smile, "Is it good?"
"I should’ve saved some for you."
"No need, I really don’t have that..."
Li Zishen interrupted, "Let’s go, Xiao Wan. Ride with me to school, and have William check on you. You’ve vomited so much; I don’t want you to harm your stomach."
"Li Weilian?"
"Yes, he went to the Research and Development Center. With him there, I worry less and can spend more time with you."
"What about the biological research institute?"
"He’s in charge of that as well."
Li Zihan asked, "Brother, if Xiao Wan rides in your car, what about me? Do I ride with Cheng Shi?"
"Let’s go together."
"Oh, that’s more like it. Let’s go."
Upon exiting, they saw Cheng Shi, who exuded a strong masculine presence accentuated by large-framed sunglasses.
Tang Xiaowan walked briskly, handing over her sling bag to him, "It has to be fixed before the end of school, or don’t even think about having lunch."
"Yes, Miss."
With that, Cheng Shi drove off.
Although his black SUV was worth only a few hundred thousand, at that moment it looked distinctly commanding, overshadowing the limited-edition luxury car next to Chen Xin.
A flicker of concern crossed Tang Xiaowan’s eyes; Cheng Shi seemed off, uncharacteristically wearing sunglasses.
Both men had their own concerns trailing behind her.
Li Zihan, looking at the stern-faced Li Zishen, joked, "Brother, it’s time to show your hand, go ahead and buy a sling bag. Xiao Wan will definitely be happy."
Li Zishen offered a faint smile, "Get in the car."
"Don’t forget though, it has to be a similar style. Don’t get one of those leather bags that old women use, no matter how expensive. Xiao Wan prefers this kind of canvas material."
"Got it."
Fifteen minutes later, inside the swiftly moving black SUV, Cheng Shi had already retrieved a crumpled tissue and intentionally broke the zipper on the sling bag.
His eyes were severely bloodshot behind the sunglasses.
Suddenly, his phone lit up, and Bluetooth automatically connected, a deep male voice coming through, "Where are you? How much longer?"
"Ten minutes."
"Can you hold on?"
"When will the Miss recover? It’s been over a month; if this continues..."
"Be careful, Bai Long is nearby."
Cheng Shi clenched his teeth and promptly changed direction, slowly entering the nearest side street and continued forward.
