Chapter 452: Chapter 452: Trust Your Intuition
The plan hadn’t even started before it was over.
Because of the unexpected fire wall, Yang Yu and the team were completely separated.
“This floor is much trickier than I’d imagined.”
Yang Yu scratched his head; he hadn’t anticipated that the Underground Maze wouldn’t even give him the chance to conduct a carpet-style search to map it out.
However, Yang Yu could understand such a design.
If it were as easy as before, where just having enough people would allow them to try out every possibility and easily find the exit, then what would be the test of courage?
Every time someone left the team, a Flame would follow and become a fire wall, and Yang Yu had come to understand this.
Looking at Yang Yu, who was now alone on the other side of the flames, Bai Jin was anxious, wanting to summon Magic Power to clear the fire wall, but still unable to summon even a bit of magic.
It was specifically to prevent someone from forcibly breaking through the fire barrier that they had been given a Status that kept their mana to a minimum.
“What should Yang Yu do now?”
“If we split up, you’ll have the same fire wall appear behind you as what happened to me, unless you can get out of the Fourth Floor on your own. Otherwise, our team will become fragmented and it will be hard to gather all the members together.”
Yang Yu remained calm, not showing any signs of panic,
“Don’t separate from the team like I did. Just follow behind me, not too close but not too far. Iyas, when we come to a crossroads, you make the choice.”
“Me?” Iyas pointed at herself in disbelief, and quickly tried to refuse, “No, I can’t. Like I said, my luck isn’t nearly as good as you think it is.
I’m only a bit better than the average person at most. If I choose, we might end up in a dead end.”
Iyas hurriedly waved her hands in refusal, but after Yang Yu’s continued persuasion, she eventually had to accept his proposal, making decisions in place of the less fortunate him.
The heavy pressure of leading the team into a dead end and to their doom weighed on the delicate shoulders of Iyas; she kept breathing in and out on the spot, trying to calm herself.
Even so, Iyas found it very hard to still her heart, with it continuously thumping; for the first time, she truly understood the burden that Yang Yu carried as team leader, where every step must not be taken lightly.
“Don’t be so nervous, Iyas. Just follow your intuition when choosing and trust in your own luck.”
Yang Yu turned and walked towards a crossroad, his trusting silhouette deeply etched in Iyas’s eyes.
Somehow, the nervousness in Iyas’s heart dissipated completely, as she lifted her hand to guide the entire team. After half an hour of navigating, Yang Yu and his team finally… were led by Iyas into a dead end.
Iyas clasped her hands together with tears in her eyes, frantically apologizing to everyone around her, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I didn’t know it would turn out like this.”
On the other side of the flames, Yang Yu sighed, “Iyas, I told you to choose based on your intuition.”
“I did choose based on my intuition, and that’s how we ended up in this dead end. What now?”
Iyas anxiously looked at the flames in front and behind her. The blazing fire burned intensely, and merely looking at it was unbearably hot. It wasn’t hard to imagine being roasted like a suckling pig if they tried to go through the fire wall.
Yang Yu, on the other hand, approached the flames calmly, to everyone’s astonishment, and stretched his hand into the raging inferno.
“Yang Yu, what are you doing? You’ll get burned!”
Bai Jin watched Yang Yu nervously, but no matter how many times she tried, she couldn’t summon a trace of Magic Power and could only watch helplessly as Yang Yu placed his hand into the scorching blaze.
After a while, Yang Yu nonchalantly pulled his hand out of the fire, and blew on it by his mouth,
“It’s real flame. Wait for me a moment. I’ll think of a solution.”
Yang Yu had barely turned around before he brought his hand to his mouth and started to blow on it frantically.
Damn, it hurts so much, if I don’t hurry up, my hand will be ready to dip in sauce.
Although not much blood was lost, it was still damn painful.
I should have known better than to try to act tough.
Pulling out burn medicine from the System, Yang Yu discreetly gulped it down.
After the burns on his hand had healed, Yang Yu took out a dry powder fire extinguisher from the System, tore off the lead seal, pulled out the safety pin, pressed down on the handle with one hand, lifted the extinguisher, and grabbed the nozzle with the other hand. A cloud of white powder shot out from the extinguisher, instantly snuffing out the flames before him.
Everyone was stunned. Could it really be done like this?
But before the others could react, Yang Yu had also extinguished the wall of flames behind them.
The purpose of this floor was to test one’s courage.
Upon seeing the wall of fire, Yang Yu started to think whether the fire wall was indeed the key to proving one had courage.
Yang Yu considered various situations and had also thought about whether the flames were just very realistic-looking but actually just decorative…
But after his near-death experience, he could confirm that the flames making up the fire wall were indeed real flames that could roast a person inside out.
Eliminating the possibility of fake flames, the flames currently before Yang Yu could also very likely be designed such that after passing through several times, one would become immune to them.
But Yang Yu no longer wanted to test that theory with his own body.
Yang Yu still had many tools of unclear purpose, all junk he had drawn from the System. He would try to use those items whenever possible, hoping to turn trash into treasure.
By the way, this fire extinguisher was one of the Rare Items that Yang Yu had drawn. However, Yang Yu had never expected that the fire would be extinguished just like that.
If it hadn’t worked, Yang Yu had thought of trying other methods, like bringing out a large bucket of water to try and douse the flames or digging a tunnel through the wall with a shovel to turn around.
Carrying the fire extinguisher and calling for his dumbfounded teammates, Yang Yu went back the way they came to the intersection.
Behind them, a small flame reignited, forming a new wall of fire.
Choosing a new path, Yang Yu and his team extinguished the fire behind them several more times.
Finally, another wall of fire, identical to the one at the entrance, appeared in their sight.
Yang Yu mercilessly used the fire extinguisher to put out the flames, and behind that wall of fire was the staircase leading to the Fifth Floor.
The voice of the Maze Guardian rang out again by Yang Yu’s ear,
“Congratulations on passing this test. The designer of this test probably didn’t expect you to pass this floor in such a way.”
Covering his slightly stinging hands, Yang Yu said with a smile, “It was easier than I expected.”
“With that thing in your hands, of course, you’d say that. This era really has come up with some interesting things.”
“Tell me, is the design here meant for one to pass through the fire wall several times to become immune to the flames, or does one need to possess true courage to pass?”
“As you can see, the flames here are not fake, but real flames that can sear someone’s skin. Every single flame here is real. Passing through it would result in injury.”
