Detective Agency of the Bizarre
Chapter 69 - 69 Sixty-nine
69: Sixty-nine.
On their own sides.
69: Sixty-nine.
On their own sides.
Anna gathered up her already well-hidden presence and drifted toward the place permeated with a chill aura.
It was a crossroad, where two ghosts hid around the corner, ready to pounce.
Clearly, they planned to ambush Jojo and the other tourists as they reached the crossroad.
Were there really ghosts here?
Realizing this, Anna wanted to inform Lu Li but worried about not knowing where to find him, besides, Lu Li had asked her to protect Jojo…
Feeling the other ghosts’ aura, which was weaker than hers by a notch, probably of the lowest rank, she came up with a plan.
Unnoticed, she stealthily spread her aura ahead of the two ghosts hiding around the corner, masking the light—meaning they wouldn’t notice anyone passing by.
After setting up, Anna peeped around the corner, not far away, three tourists were approaching, talking.
Feeling somewhat frail, Anna pretended as if nothing had happened, floated back to Jojo’s side, humming something cheerfully, and drifted past the crossroad with the three tourists.
After walking a dozen meters, Anna sensed her aura dissipate due to the distance.
By the time the two ghosts at the corner realized something, they were already far away.
The headless ghost, being the first to notice something was amiss, patted the shoulder of the twisted ghost in front of it.
“Ah ah ah ah!” Startled, the twisted ghost flailed its arms wildly; only after seeing who it was did it stop screaming, complaining indignantly, “It’s you, oh you scared me to death… Damn it, don’t suddenly pat on the shoulder like that?
Ghosts can scare ghosts to death.”
Cradling its head, the headless ghost murmured, “I just wanted to tell you that those tourists seemed to have passed by…”
“What?”
The twisted ghost peeked around, discovering that the tourists had just disappeared around the corner at the end.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier!”
“I just noticed it too,” the headless ghost replied, shaking the head cradled in its arms.
“You know, I have bad eyesight and slow reactions.”
“That’s not right, we should have seen them if they just passed by here…” the twisted ghost was puzzled, then suddenly shrieked, “We couldn’t have encountered a ghost, could we!”
“Ghosts?
Aren’t we those?” the head puzzled.
“I mean the scary kind of ghost.”
“Aren’t we supposed to scare people?”
“Oh my god… Forget it, there’s no reasoning with you, you blockhead.” The twisted ghost waved its hand, giving up on explaining, and burrowed into the shadows behind the wall, picking up an seemingly ubiquitous phone to shout, “Potato Potato, the tourists have passed my spot, they’re heading your way.”
A few seconds later, the white-dress female ghost replied, “Potato received, I’ll stop them.”
Hanging up the phone, the twisted ghost looked worried.
Its intuition told it that something might be off with this group of tourists…
“Ah ah ah ah ah ah!!!”
A scream echoed from up ahead, interrupting its thoughts; the headless ghost cried out in alarm, “Potato succeeded!”
…
“Don’t be scared, it’s just a dummy…” the boy patted his girlfriend’s back as he whispered soothingly, his eyes couldn’t help but glance at a white-dressed female hanging in front of them.
His heart pounded wildly, almost unable to bear the sudden drop from the ceiling.
Especially since the white-dressed female’s arms and legs were stiff, trembling as if electrocuted, seemingly lifelike.
Maybe it was just an employee in disguise?
Behind the couple, Jojo observed with interest.
Invisible, Anna, floating nearby, conceived a mischievous idea.
Jojo raised a finger, sliding it gently through the air.
The rope holding the white-dress female ghost suddenly snapped, and the ghost fell abruptly, thudding onto the ground.
“Yaaah ah ah ah ah ah!!!” The girl jumped back, the boy also staggered backward a few steps, unsettled.
“Umm…”
A moan of pain emerged from the white-dress female ghost on the ground.
The couple paused, was this an employee?
At that moment, Jojo stepped forward, extending a hand to ask, “Are you okay, do you need help?”
“Umm umm umm!”
The head on the ground shook violently, the white-dressed ghost spinning in place like a spider, then scurried away rapidly and vanished at the end of the corridor.
“So…
so fast…”
Could this be a real ghost?
Jojo instinctively looked back and saw Anna’s figure slowly emerging behind the couple, meeting his gaze with affirmation.
That was indeed a real ghost.
…
In a certain part of the Haunted House, a secret room.
Under the dim light, four ghostly shadows gathered together, whispering among themselves.
Their murmuring dispersed.
“Something’s not right with this group, they aren’t scared of us…
That guy on the right aside, the girl on the left actually looked excited when she saw me…
which one of us is the ghost?”
“Don’t worry, they might be enthusiasts who have been to many haunted houses; it’s normal that our tricks don’t scare them.
We might only be ghosts, but we lack professional training.”
“I did scare one of them, though, the girl’s scream was truly miserable, hehehehe…”
“Of the four tourists, you only scared one, what’s there to be happy about?
It’s a failure, okay!
Boss, I think our arrangements might not work well on them, what do you think, boss?”
“Hmm, since these tourists are so tough, I’m not going to be nice anymore…
With the rain pouring like this, it’s unlikely we’ll have any new visitors.
Let’s quickly get rid of these annoying folks and call it a day!”
“Ohhhh!!!”
“Don’t get too excited just yet.
From now on, you need to seriously complete your tasks.
Even if you can’t scare them, you must work meticulously!
We need to maintain our reputation and show everyone our professionalism!”
“Yes!”
“Besides, we still haven’t used our secret weapon…
hmph…
no matter who this guy is, even if he’s an Exorcist, he won’t be able to remain unaffected after experiencing that technique…”
“Hehehehe…”
…
[Time’s up, the ghost trap has vanished, and the tourists may continue exploring forward.]
The operating room, a piercing broadcast sounded.
“It’s not even ten minutes yet.” Lu Li, sitting on the operating table, looked down, “It’s only been three minutes.”
[Uh…
because one of your companions triggered a mechanism, the ghost trap has been deactivated.]
The voice from the broadcast awkwardly replied.
“Is that so…
May I leave now then?”
[Yes, yes, you may now.]
“Let’s go.”
Lu Li stood up and walked toward the exit of the operating room.
The young man reacted too slowly, stunned, he said, “Aren’t we going to look around here?
Maybe the note is hidden somewhere.”
Lu Li didn’t even turn back as he replied, “There’s no note left here.
Two on the left, two on the right, the last one is at the final point.”
The young man paused, trying to process it, but Lu Li had already walked out.
He shivered and hurried after Lu Li, asking, “Dude, be honest with me, have you been here before…”
Skipping all the deciphering and heading straight for the notes, there’s no gaming experience in that!
“No.”
In the dimly lit Ghost House, Lu Li walked forward, looking straight ahead.
“Then how do you know where the notes are…”
“Really want to know?”
“Yes!”
Lu Li paused slightly, then revealed the truth, “Before coming here, I looked up the strategy.”
