CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31 : DEMON SPIRE

Chapter 31 : Demon Spire

[You have triggered the village chief’s quest]

[Do you accept?]

[Yes / No]

Axton nodded while also voicing out his answer. "Yes."

*Ding*

[Description : Investigate the Demon Spire and report the events to the village chief]

’Sounds easy,’ he thought, seeing how simple the description was.

[Reward : Berserker class scroll]

[Time limit : 120 minutes]

After he accepted, the village chief reached into his robes and took out a shining, silvery object that was like a thick disc even though small enough to be carried on the palm.

"Here you go," he said, handing it over to Axton. "This is a demon mana disc, able to detect demonic mana. Be careful, true warrior."

Axton accepted the mana disc from him. "Thank you, sir."

"This is an important quest and I will urge you to keep it between us for now.

Axton bobbed his head. "That will not be a problem."

*Ding*

[Demon Mana Disc]

[This item is able to detect demonic mana within a ten metre radius of the user]

After getting all the information he needed and necessary things, Axton made his way to the demonic spire.

******

About an hour later, Axton arrived at the maw of an immensely dark cave.

He tried to look to catch a glimpse of something, or just anything, from inside but he was unable to do so.

Swallowing air, he proceeded into the cave and after walking for some time, he came to a point where he saw a flight of steps.

On both walls, bordering the stairs, hung torched sticks of wood that added to lighten up the environment.

It was creepy.

However, the one thing that bothered him was the fact that the flight of stairs did not lead up.

The steps went down.

Heaving a sigh, Axton had no choice but to continue.

He followed the stairs, going wherever they led him to.

*Ding*

[Welcome to the Demonic Spire]

[You have entered the 1st Floor]

Reaching the end of the stairs, Axton found himself walking into a large hall that could be likened to a palace.

It was massive with eerie patterns drawn as murals on the walls.

He looked around as he did something strange.

*Past*

The murals slightly darkened and started to emit a black gas that gradually covered the area.

Axton continued to step away, trying not to be engulfed by the mist as much as he could.

Soon, it stopped but from the dense mist, Axton could hear growling.

A small group of monsters appeared.

Black fox that had a copious amount of saliva drooling from their mouth as well as a pair of deadly red eyes each.

...

[Demon Fox]

Grade : Common

Level : 4

Attack : 28

Defense : 21

HP : 55/55

Skills : [Demon Mana Burst] [Fox Claw]

Note : The demon fox is a common grade monster of the demon fox race, which are part of the demon race and realm.

...

Axton noticed two new things in the demon fox’s description.

’Demon fox race? Demon race?’

He had never heard of those. ’Was the demon black cat also part of this race?’

After he had gone offline earlier, Axton took the time to read more about New Eden on their official website but nothing he read mentioned anything about a demon race.

He was excited at the prospect but at the same time, he was sceptical.

Was there something that they did not know?

Axton could say that he had not noticed how things mysteriously happen around him.

It was as if he was being favoured specially outside of the general populace of players in the game currently.

He felt there was more to it but he just couldn’t place a pin on what exactly that could be.

Axton, however, focused on the matter at hand.

He summoned his weapon, ready to slay the foxes.

In tandem with that, his [Battle God] talent triggered.

Even though he didn’t need it to fight these foxes, he had no say since it was a passive skill that would activate when the conditions had been met.

His base stats were already superior to the foxes and with [Battle God] effect added, it was now overkill.

The demon foxes growled and charged over to the human intruder.

*Shing*

Axton quickly killed about three of them and stepped back, even making them more agitated than before.

’I think it can work,’ Axton thought.

He had observed how many of the monsters he fought inside the game operated.

For some reason, the one thing he noticed was the fact that with an increase in their feelings of hostility to their target, the more they grew in number.

He couldn’t explain how they are able to recruit others.

’If this is still the first floor, then there would be more floors and I’m guessing that each floor holds stronger monsters than the previous one.’

Axton considered his situation critically before proceeding with a decision on how to tackle the demon foxes.

There were still a lot of unknown variables to his plan and so Axton decided to execute it later on.

He didn’t know how many floors existed in this demon spire, neither did he know where the final boss stayed.

*Shing*

He quickly slayed the foxes and moved on to the next floor.

The demon foxes were common grade and farm kills on them did nothing to his experience points.

Axton heaved a sigh.

He walked around for a little bit and saw another flight of stairs that led downwards.

He took it and walked to where it led.

*Ding*

[Welcome]

[You have entered the 2nd Floor of the Demon Spire]

Walking into the second floor, he heard a violent exhalation of hot air and hooves stomping the ground for a charge being prepared.

Looking onward, Axton could see that the monsters of the 2nd floor had already gathered and this was all thanks to the commotion that happened above them.

He was happy!

’It will work,’ he thought. ’This means each floor can tell when there is chaos in the floor above them.’

...

[Demon Boar]

Grade : 1

Level : 4

Attack : 36

Defense : 29

HP : 65/65

...

With grade 1 monsters appearing on the second floor, Axton knew, for certain now, that the strength of the demon monsters of the demon spire increased with each floor he went down to.
