Divine Beast Creator

Chapter 1565: Chapter 1566: Speculation
“Wu Feng? I didn’t expect Featherwood City to be dragged into this incident as well.”
Qi Chen couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise, and Feng Yuan rolled his eyes and said irritably,
“What’s it got to do with Featherwood City? He’s now a new student at Great Xia Academy, currently in Shangjing.”
“Great Xia Academy? Oh right, I forgot about that…”
Scratching his head, Qi Chen glanced at Feng Yuan awkwardly. As a Divine Pact Maker, they basically had their pick of any academy in Great Xia. Although having the protection of a Divine Beast made their choices relatively easy and carefree, most Divine Pact Makers would still choose the best academy possible. Not everyone was like Feng Yuan, who chose a relatively ordinary academy for some strange reason.
“Phew~ I’ll head back to the dorm for a bit. Call me if you need anything.”
With a yawn, Feng Yuan said exhaustedly. Although they didn’t quite understand why he looked so tired, the others didn’t inquire, each returning to their dorms. Wu Dingwu and Tan Xueluo were led inside by their dorm mates as soon as they entered.
Originally, Tan Xueluo was a bit of a wallflower in the dorm. Her beast, Panshi, wasn’t particularly strong, nor did she have commander abilities like Dou Yanlan. Just an ordinary person like her didn’t exactly stand out. Unfortunately, her dorm mate Liu Nana was a social butterfly and although others sometimes criticized her behind her back, her wide social circle made it hard for others to notice the unassuming Tan Xueluo. And she didn’t intend to try closing this gap either, as taking care of Panshi and improving its strength already took up most of her time.
This particular feeling was something she’d never experienced before. Of course, everyone pulling her aside was more about finding out what she’d done to earn a special commendation from their teacher in the group chat, especially since everyone noticed the task result rankings published today. She and Feng Yuan were way ahead of everyone else.
“Aren’t you going to train?”
Seeing Yang Hongzhi waiting for him at the door, Feng Yuan scratched his head in puzzlement and asked. Yang Hongzhi found the question amusing and frustrating, while Xiao Hei gazed at Feng Yuan with a mournful whine. Sitting on Xiao Hei’s head, Najia said,
“It’s not really appropriate to train right now, especially after that recent attack. While there’s no immediate danger, we shouldn’t let our guard down. If it weren’t for your task, I would’ve hoped you’d join the patrols.”
“Heh, maybe not. After getting trapped inside the Crystal Tower, I could use a good sleep.”
Yawning once more, Feng Yuan opened the door and tossed his keys onto the table, then turned into his Little Husky form, wagging his tail at Najia as he said,
“Actually, your patrolling won’t help. That guy’s strength is far beyond yours. If he’s not planning anything dangerous, it’s best to leave it be for now.”
As Little Husky yawned and curled up in the center of the cushion on the sofa, Xiao Ji glanced at him, confused, shook its head, and quietly walked over to sit beside him, transforming into Eggshell Chicken form. It took out its phone obtained from Agunas, not feeling tired like Feng Yuan claimed to be, trying to figure out what exactly had happened here.
Big Cat sat beside Xiao Ji to help analyze the information. Watching them, Agunas turned to Najia and asked,
“So, why did you come looking for him?”
“It’s nothing major, really. Today during the academy’s data registration based on feedback from the Special Duty Team, it was noted that their squad hadn’t formally registered with the academy. As for why they were even recognized by the Special Duty Team…”
Saying this, Najia looked at Agunas. If it were someone else, she might suspect foul play, but Feng Yuan… That guy was capable of many things. Even without Agunas and the others showing up, given his ties to the Special Duty Team, they wouldn’t persistently verify identities with the academy. Plus, he had a special permit allowing him to directly accept external missions from the Special Duty Team without needing academy approvals.
Waving his tail, Agunas said,
“He apparently applied directly to the Special Duty Team using his permit. But if he didn’t do so, the academy wouldn’t issue proof.”
Agunas could understand Feng Yuan’s actions since the academy wouldn’t provide certificates to help them contact the Special Duty Team. After all, they were just freshmen, and who knew if they were capable of executing external missions. Knowing Feng Yuan’s abilities would not make a difference.
Applying personally meant not needing to go through the academy. As for why he even skipped registering his squad at the academy, Agunas remains unsure. It didn’t keep track of what Feng Yuan did regularly.
Glancing at the Little Husky flipped on its back and exposing its belly, Yang Hongzhi asked,
“Then, should the squad members remain as they are currently registered?”
“Preferably not. It’s merely a temporary team. Official registration could cause issues for those other two classmates. Does the academy allow his current approach?”
“They don’t object, but it does make things slightly more complicated since without formally registering a team, they can’t issue many squad proofs needed.”
Scratching his head, Yang Hongzhi added, to which Najia shook her head and said,
“He doesn’t need those. He has that special permit, so just register it as a temporary squad. As for allocations…”
“We’ll need to wait until he wakes up to discuss that. He’s their leader, after all. Even if you ask Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan, they’ll likely tell you to check with Feng Yuan.”
Yang Hongzhi told Najia. Given his understanding of the three of them, that would certainly be the case. As for the other two? It’s likely they were classmates Feng Yuan conveniently brought along; otherwise, he wouldn’t have skipped squad registration altogether.
“Then we’ll take our leave for now. Please let him know about the point allocation and the temporary squad registration.”
Seeing Little Husky unmoved, Yang Hongzhi said to Agunas, and as he left, Agunas glanced at the unmoving Little Husky and wondered aloud,
“What’s up with him, being so tired.”
“Not sure. By his standards, this shouldn’t be the case.”
Veronia remarked perplexedly. If it were Qi Chen and the others, they might think it’s normal since Feng Yuan fought for a long time. But they all knew his capabilities outperformed their own, thus a fight like this shouldn’t exhaust him so.
“Can’t figure it out, nor do I care to guess. If he truly wants to keep it hidden, we can’t uncover it.”
Changing into human form, Veronia walked over and sat while checking information on her phone. Meanwhile, numerous unease-filled messages were exchanged across the temporary emergency network, although the official reassurance attempts remained somewhat ineffectual.
On the other hand, academy students seemed to view this as an opportunity, especially with the ramped-up recruitment of commanders this year. Many analyzed the current data to conclude the danger wasn’t significant. The Snake Woman’s peculiar strength fluctuation, not just mere speculation, was also officially announced for comfort.
Seeing hardly any immediate danger, many sensed a chance for fame and began teaming up to seek out the Snake Woman. Their actions, potentially drawing others into trouble, met with much opposition, since failure could lead to the Snake Woman sealing an entire area.
“Damn it, is that thing going to attack Maomu Academy again?”
On seeing the Snake Woman heading towards Maomu Academy, the Elder pursuing her said viciously. Having just arrived in Maomu City, he’d caught sight of the Snake Woman, linking it to the previous failure at Maomu Academy, fuelling his anger.
Surprisingly, the Snake Woman stopped at the gate, as if repulsed by something, ignoring the pursuing Elder and re-routing elsewhere. The detour allowed the Elder to catch up, and his Sacred Beast-level Beast promptly eradicated the Snake Woman who couldn’t withstand much.
With relief, the Elder puzzled over the oddity of the Snake Woman’s behavior at Maomu Academy. He witnessed its bizarre, evasive move clearly.
What was going on here? Why did the Snake Woman opt to bypass this area? Was it because she’d already attacked once? Unconvinced, considering repeated assaults could happen, this hypothesis fell through. Could Maomu Academy harbor something special?
