CHAPTER 62: LIGHTNING MAGIC(1)

The ocean flowed and surged under the surgical control of The Life Magus. He planned to use the battlefield as a weapon.

Tentacles of water formed and shot at the other three.

Rufus spared a glance at the incoming water limbs and chuckled ever so slightly before clicking his fingers.

The tentacles turned into steam against Victor’s will while the latter prepared mentally to overcome Rufus’ seemingly perfect and absolute control.

Aaron reached out for the steam and pulled out the heat within but before he could do anything with it, Damien struck him with a mass of shadows that sent him crashing into the ocean.

"Solar Flare." Aaron’s voice could be heard clearly even though he was completely submerged in the ocean.

A massive wave of flames rolled out of him and evaporated the region around him.

He reached for the vapor once again but this time found resistance.

Flinging his head to the side, he saw Victor attempting to use his water magic to control the steam.

He looked to the sky and saw Rufus and Damien engaged in battle.

The two best friends knew their strengths and weaknesses accordingly.

Aaron fired off to the world tree with black flames dancing on his body.

Once he got close enough, he waved his hand at it, and his mana domain responded to the silent command.

A large part of the glass flames vanished from the actual domain and appeared on the tree.

Its bark burnt as the flames spread. They seemed to have all intentions of engulfing the tree entirely.

"Unholy Incinerator," Aaron whispered and the flames exploded into a normal mass of flames that burned the tree even faster.

Victor stared at Aaron dead in the eye.

"Planetary Tide." His voice carried ill-concealed rage.

Most of the ocean rose into a wave that threatened to drown the other three magi.

************

Logan’s eyes flew open, and he immediately tried to summon his blade, but unfortunately, it wasn’t close to him or even in his dark space.

Looking around, he could see himself in the all-too-familiar hospital of the Academy.

"Thank God I took your sword from you. Who knows what you would have done to me with it." Orion spoke from Logan’s side and the latter looked at him.

’How did I end up here? Did he carry me or something?’ Logan’s eyes darted across the bruises and cuts along Orion’s body that weren’t there before - or at least not noticeable.

"How long have I been out?" He actually asked.

Oriom chuckled nervously, "All you need to know is that the academy is starting next week."

"Thank you for trying." He looked at his feet like they were interesting.

"I understand why you didn’t take the Prince with us. It would have only led to our deaths. The only reason we survived was that his partner had left him to himself." Orion sighed before walking out of the room and leaving Logan to his thoughts.

Reaching for his legs, Logan felt it and noticed the feeling that permeated it - or the lack thereof. His legs were numb.

Trying to feel his world cores, Logan felt something there but it was far too weak and fragile. His world cores were trying to reform.

His current condition wasn’t so much a result of the fight with the guard as the altercation with the Blood Witch.

"The Blood Witch." He stared at his fingers and then the rest of his body.

Tracing limes across his skin, Logan traced healed stab wounds and mutilations that he had incurred over his life.

The memory of her control over blood was beyond jarring.

’To think that other forms of magic actually exist naturally and not all are as a result of forced experimentation like Soul magic.’ Logan remembered the revelation that Minerva had laid up on him.

"Back when she thought my shadow power was magic, she referenced her previous encounters with people who wield such." He muttered.

"It is far too surprising. I have seen the Life Magus cast plant magic but that was a mere result of the fusion of various elements in the right order and sequence." Logan pushed the sheets off his legs and placed them on the floor.

The floors felt cold against his feet despite them being numb.

With a bit of effort and grunt, Logan managed to stand on his feet and he was quite stable.

Remembering what the Kingdom had done to him when he had lost his mana core and even how he had ended up in their assassination attempt, Logan decided to use their lack of information to his advantage.

If he could pretend to be weaker and magically disabled, then when the time comes, he could leave his enemies a nasty surprise.

’Besides, I need to hide my reformed Divine core and the properties of my magic. Otherwise, who knows what they’d do to me in the name of research.’ He thought as he walked out of the hospital.

________

Logan walked with slow and certain strides to his destination.

Now, he stood in front of his room, and for the first time in months, he entered.

After setting some things in order, he changed into the academy’s uniform and laid on the bed, and even though he had just recovered from an injury, he was already thinking of training.

"I should try to learn how to use Divine Magic by myself as opposed to an instinctive response to certain death." He sighed and lifted his hand in front of his face.

Looking at his fingers, he unconsciously ran mana through them, and an orange spark phased across.

His eyes widened at what he saw.

Jumping to his feet, he ran his mana through his fingers, and another spark phased through them.

He increased the amount of mana and electric arcs flashed across them. They increased in intensity.

Unbeknownst to him, his eyes had a faint orange glow.

The arcs slowly formed a large lightning bolt and just when it did, the door opened.
