Divine System: Land of the Abominations
Chapter 61: Beasts of Clay (2).
CHAPTER 61: BEASTS OF CLAY (2).
Nero held his breath as he listened...
{A thousand years ago, seeking to conquer the earth, the four kings of the seven Hells warred against one another for the vast region west of the world}.
{During that time, the corruption spread even further. The armies of the Demon Kings trampled the world beneath their feet. However, under the lead of the Church, the humans fought back. This was recorded in the history books as the Great Demon War}.
Nero frowned. He had never heard of this Great Demon War before.
And if the timelines were accurate, information from not so far back in time shouldn’t have been muddled or lost even.
Which meant...
’The Church is hiding it.’
His eyes narrowed.
There was certainly something suspicious going on here.
The Oracle continued,
{I suspect these creatures to be Demons of Baal, specifically Gargoyles}.
Nero grimaced, ’Gargoyles, huh. That makes sense since they are made of stone}.
{These Gargoyles must have suffered grave injuries during the war. They chose the corpse of the godtree as their place to rest and recover. Now, after a thousand years, the recovery process is almost complete}.
Nero raised a brow, ’Almost?’
He looked out the window.
The four Gargoyles were frozen in place, their hollow eyes gazing into the nothingness of the night.
They were completely still...
{Due to their thousand years of dormancy, these four Demons have lost most of their stores energy. As such, it will take quite some time for them to recover}.
Nero froze. Then he asked cautiously,
’How strong are they all now?’
{Each is as powerful as a grade E Abomination. However, that will change within the hour as their reserves of Ein Sof are rapidly recovering. Once they have fully recovered, they will all be as powerful as grade B Abominations}.
Nero remained silent.
His current situation was quite shaky.
If he didn’t get out of here in time, he was certain he would die.
But on the other hand, his circumstances also presented opportunity.
Opportunity he figured, was rather hard to come by.
Even though the beasts currently lacked Ein Sof, it did not change the nature of their Seals of Sin.
That mean if he successfully killed all four of them, he would acquire twenty whole Seals!
’Not to mention, I might also get another skill!’
His breathing quickened and the light of greed appeared in the depths of his eyes.
’If I can successfully pull this off, then I will come out of this ordeal stronger than before.’
Of course, the risk was that if he failed, he would lose his life.
But...
He clenched his fists.
He has already survived all sorts of impossible situations. He has already come so far.
After fighting and defeating hundreds of Abominations, he had developed a certain degree of confidence. Confidence in his how abilities.
And that was not all.
He also had a few new weapons he could use like his Shadow Shift, although he had not yet quite master the skill yet.
He sucked in a deep breath.
He had to make the decision.
It was now or never.
Right now, the Demons were vulnerable.
When he thought about this, Nero realized the fear that clouded over his heart was long gone.
His lips curled into a grim, ugly smile.
’I can do this.’
He took in a deep breath then got up from his crouch...
The air was still choked full of the dark bile fog spat out by the first stone Gargoyle. It still burned his eyes and throat, but the worst of it was already gone.
Pushing open the door to the house he had entered, Nero felt the night wind wash the rest of his frazzled emotions away.
He drew the Silver Blade and turned his gaze up.
Most of the crown of the enormous godtree had been completely destroyed, its branches now littered at its foot. Its branches had also crushed most of the nearby houses, including the temple. Seeing how close he has been to death, Nero couldn’t help but take in another gulp of the cold air.
The four Demons that had come out of the hole in the wall turned their gazed towards him.
Feeling the immeasurable darkness and evil in their gazes, Nero wanted to shrink back.
Gritting his teeth, he held his posture. They were large. Incredibly so.
But he was determined to take them on.
’They aren’t as scary as they look.’ he said to himself. A false but desperately needed reassurance.
The large maw of the first Demon split into a terrifying, dark grin.
Its body of stone groaned as it leaned forward and fell off the godtree.
It fell for a few seconds, and then with a bang, its body crashed into the ground.
A massive shockwave stirred up a cloud of dust, forcing Nero to close his eyes for a moment.
Now brought to the ground, Nero could tell that the large Gargoyle towered most of the houses in the ancient town settlement.
There was a another loud bang, and then another.
The other two had fallen from the godtree as well, their hollow eyes trained on him.
The slender Demon’s lanky limbs made clacking sounds as it walked forward on the hard stone. The Abominable two in one stone beast also skittered forward on its many legs. Now that he could see it better, it appeared like the profane fusion of a unicorn and a scorpion. It also had two faces— the face of the unicorn on its head, and a face with a wide maw that had hundreds of teeth on its abdomen.
Seeing such a horrible being made the fear in his chest flare up again.
But that was good.
His bloodshot eyes glowed a deep golden in the dark night...
The fear would make sure he didn’t lose focus for a second.
The four beasts of clay were still for a moment.
Then the two at the front exploded into action.
