Domestication of Divine Beasts at the Beginning
Chapter 40 – Principal, why are you so stingy? I've bled for this school!
Su Bai checked the time; it was only four in the afternoon, still early for dinner, so he decided to head straight to the principal's office.
Standing at the door of the principal's office, Su Bai knocked and called out, "Reporting in!"
Today, the Old Principal was dressed in a military uniform, with the rank of colonel on his shoulders, indicating that before becoming the principal of Jiangzhou Martial Academy, he held a significant position in the military.
"Su Bai, over the past few days, I've communicated with the Martial Academy instructors and learned about your deeds at the F269 base. The school has also tallied your military merits from the battlefield. You are the top contributor in this battle, with a total of 1,300 merit points."
"Normally, the training resources available for exchange at the F269 Military Base are meant for human martial artists, but as a Beast Tamer and superpowered individual, these resources aren't suitable for you."
"So, I wanted to ask if there's anything you desire? The school will do its best to accommodate your wishes."
Hearing that his military merits had finally been registered, Su Bai was overjoyed. He had been worried about not having enough money to support his two tamed beasts, and now the Old Principal was offering him a solution on a silver platter.
Su Bai didn't know what he could exchange for with 1,300 merit points, but he was sure it would be substantial.
In the military, 10 merit points could be exchanged for a bottle of Blood Qi Powder, or one merit point for ten thousand cash.
By that calculation, 1,300 merit points were equivalent to a whopping thirteen million!
Perhaps considering that Su Bai wouldn't have the means to purchase the appropriate training resources with the money, the school decided to let him make his own requests.
Since the Old Principal had offered, Su Bai wasn't going to be shy about it.
"Old Principal, I think we shouldn't let the school spend too much. How about this, just give me a thousand or eight hundred Gold Tier beast cores, or if that's not possible, Silver Tier beast cores will do."
The Old Principal had been looking at Su Bai with admiration, as this young man had saved over five hundred students and brought fame to Jiangzhou Martial Academy.
But he didn't expect Su Bai to make such an outrageous request!
The Old Principal's face fell as he said sternly, "Do you know what it means to have a Gold Tier beast? And you dare ask for a thousand or eight hundred of them? It's uncertain if a thousand Gold Tier beasts are even killed nationwide each year!"
"You can forget about Silver Tier beast cores! With your merit points, you can't even get a fraction of that!"
Seeing the Old Principal angry, Su Bai wasn't intimidated. As the saying goes, ask for the sky and settle for the ground. This was a one-time opportunity to fatten up his two tamed beasts!
For this, Su Bai was willing to sacrifice some dignity, almost ready to roll up his sleeves and haggle with the Old Principal.
"Old Principal, you can't calculate it like that. The lives of our students can't be measured by mere beast cores. With over five hundred students returning alive, doesn't that mean humanity gains over five hundred future pillars?"
"If each of them kills just two Silver Tier beasts in the future, the school and the military will have recouped their investment. This deal is clearly a huge win for the military."
"Gold Tier is a bit much, but a thousand Silver Tier beast cores, not one less!"
"Old Principal, we've bled for the school! You can't shortchange a hero!"
Su Bai met the Old Principal's gaze, his voice firm, as if asking for a thousand Silver Tier beast cores was a modest request!
For a moment, the Old Principal was so exasperated by Su Bai's words that he was almost out of breath.
This was simply unreasonable!
This kid, with his clear and refined appearance, seemed so indifferent, yet when it came to interests, he was so unscrupulous!
The Old Principal said with a stern face, "You did indeed contribute by killing Silver Tier beasts and indirectly saving students, and the military has awarded you the Great Wall Gold Medal."
"You should know that this honor has only been awarded to two students in Jiangzhou Martial Academy, and you're the only one to receive it as a freshman!"
With that, the Old Principal opened a drawer and solemnly took out a gold-edged wooden box, slowly opening it in front of Su Bai.
The luxurious packaging, along with the dazzling Gold Medal, indeed had an impressive appearance, and the sense of honor it conveyed was enviable.
The Old Principal believed that no young man could resist the allure of this Gold Medal.
Even the Old Principal himself had only received a Great Wall Gold Medal many years after reaching the Gold Tier, having luckily slain a Gold Tier beast.
He still remembered trembling as he held the medal, afraid it would fall if he held it, or be stolen if he pocketed it.
This was the highest honor that could be awarded to grassroots military officers!
Typically, only those who reached the Gold Tier were eligible to receive it, though some exceptionally talented individuals might receive it at the Silver Tier.
If Su Bai hadn't encountered a situation where the entire nation was defeated, and he alone had slain a Silver Tier Nether Cat, he might have only received a Silver Honor Medal at most.
This medal was a dual symbol of honor and strength!
The Old Principal was confident that once this medal was presented, Su Bai would comply.
But Su Bai took one look at the entirely gold-made, glittering Great Wall Gold Medal and immediately saw that it weighed no more than two hundred grams, worth at most fifty thousand if sold.
Did they think they could fool Su Bai with this? What a joke!
Su Bai pushed the medal back to the Old Principal and said, "I don't want this Great Wall Gold Medal. Don't try to fool me with this nonsense. Whoever wants it can have it!"
"I just want a thousand Silver Tier beast cores, not one less!"
Seeing Su Bai's reaction, the Old Principal coughed violently as if an old wound had reopened, pointing shakily at the door, "You, get out!"
Su Bai said with a wronged expression, "Old Principal, I've bled for the school!"
"Fine, seeing as you're getting on in years, I won't be too harsh. How about this, eight hundred Silver Tier beast cores, that's my bottom line!"
The Old Principal took a couple of deep breaths to calm himself. With his experience, he could see that Su Bai was the type who wouldn't let go without a fight.
Since Su Bai was asking for the sky, the Old Principal had no choice but to bargain.
"Su Bai, the reason the human race is what it is, unlike the myriad races of beasts, is because for the strong among humans, protecting the weak is their duty and mission."
"Beasts have a strict hierarchy, and in the face of higher-level beasts, lower-level ones are just cannon fodder."
"Saving these students is the awareness and mission you should have as a strong individual, do you understand?"
"Of course, the military and the school won't overlook a talent like you, so you'll be rewarded with military merit. I'll make the decision to give you ten Bronze Tier beast cores!"
Su Bai's eyes widened as he slammed the table, "Ten Bronze Tier beast cores?"
