Don't Fall For Me, CEO
Chapter 96: The Swan Bites the Leg
CHAPTER 96: CHAPTER 96: THE SWAN BITES THE LEG
Evelyn Riley and Nathan Jacobs, as well as everyone else in the room, couldn’t help but turn their heads at the sound.
July Quinn was standing quietly in the corner, holding Kyle Keaton’s hand.
The dim light of the room fell on her, seemingly giving her a golden halo, making her appear even more ethereal.
Her current graceful and composed demeanor made Nathan Jacobs look even more disheveled in contrast.
With Kyle Keaton beside her, looking cold and aloof, Nathan Jacobs felt his pride being trampled again and again, filling him with rage.
"July Quinn, you set me up!"
His voice was nearly a roar.
With Nathan Jacobs’ accusation, Evelyn Riley immediately joined in on criticizing July Quinn.
"July Quinn, for what it’s worth, you two had a relationship. How could you be so scheming just to destroy Nathan’s engagement!"
Under their accusations, everyone else who hadn’t left the room perked up to listen.
Indeed, this was exactly Evelyn Riley’s intention.
Using the power of public opinion to shift all today’s embarrassment and disgrace onto July Quinn.
This way, Nathan Jacobs could still play the victim, establishing a weak persona.
The public always sympathizes with the weak, and this might give Nathan Jacobs a chance to turn the tables beautifully, and also successfully drive a wedge between July Quinn and Kyle Keaton, preventing July from speaking ill of Nathan Jacobs to Kyle.
However, just as Evelyn Riley was celebrating her shrewd plan, July Quinn let out a light laugh.
"Master Jacobs and Mrs. Jacobs, when you’re framing someone, could you at least use your brains?"
Not waiting for Nathan and his mother to respond, July continued, "My husband and I have been together the whole time, how could I have had the time to frame him?"
Beside her, Kyle Keaton remained indifferent.
Though he knew all too well that someone was crying wolf while being the orchestrator, a real bad woman.
But listening to her defense, he inexplicably felt good and inexplicably wanted to defend her.
Perhaps because she just said "my husband"?
"He covered for you, didn’t he, giving you the time to do it?"
Nathan Jacobs gave Kyle Keaton a cold glance, growling.
"Yes, if he was covering for me, I would indeed have had the time. But the question is, why would a president with a million things to do cover for me? Is he, like you, a jobless person with too much free time?"
After mocking back, July asked, "Besides, I’m already married, why would I sabotage your engagement? Unlike you, I’m not trying to have my cake and eat it too."
"Plus, my husband is far more exceptional than Master Jacobs, this unemployed loafer. I truly have no desire to rekindle any relationship with you, Master Jacobs. You sure have a frog’s fear of being caught by a swan, don’t you?"
Nathan Jacobs was about to argue back when Evelyn Riley suddenly snapped, "Shut up!"
Then she put on a smile, "So, July, you’re already married to President Keaton? I’m sorry, I didn’t know and made such a blunder."
"Mom, clearly it’s her..." Nathan was puzzled by his mother’s sudden 360-degree change in attitude.
But before he could finish his sentence, he was met with a deadly glare.
Nathan Jacobs could only keep quiet.
"President Keaton and July, if there was any lack of hospitality today, please forgive us. Tomorrow, I will personally bring Nathan to apologize."
If July Quinn was merely Kyle Keaton’s companion, their scheming might have led Kyle to ditch July.
But since July is Kyle’s wife, their scheming would not only make Kyle ditch July but also embarrass him.
The former had no bearing on their interests, but the latter could potentially ruin Nathan Jacobs’ chances with the Caelan Sea project.
Evelyn Riley prioritized interests, so she made the choice immediately.
Even if July Quinn indeed set up Nathan Jacobs, they would have to swallow this bitter pill.
This time, Kyle Keaton responded directly on July’s behalf.
"Then, madam, please manage your son well. If he ever dares to frame my wife again, an apology won’t suffice to settle this."
His gaze coldly swept over Nathan Jacobs, making his warning unmistakably clear.
Nathan Jacobs clenched his fists tightly.
But in the end, he said nothing.
"Yes, yes, I will discipline him. Please rest assured, President Keaton."
With Evelyn Riley’s repeated assurances, Kyle Keaton left with July Quinn.
