Chapter 655: Chapter 654 Undermining the Foundation of the Lu Family
Watching Lu Da and his companions flee in disarray, Madam Zhou could scarcely believe her own eyes, unable to believe that it was truly her and her people who had persuaded them to leave.
That was Old Lady Lu and her son. Everyone knew how domineering and oppressive the Lu Family was. How brazen and troublesome Old Lady Lu was—hadn’t she experienced it herself?
But now, such a troublesome person had backed down.
Madam Zhou’s legs went weak, and the breath in her chest deflated all at once. Qiu Xiang supported her, saying, “Madam, let’s go back inside.”
Madam Zhou clutched her hand tightly, nodded, puffed out her chest, and held her head high as she walked toward the entrance. As soon as she stepped through the door, she saw Wufu standing there, smiling at her.
“Wufu.” Madam Zhou felt a surge of joy in her heart and took two steps forward to grasp her hand.
Wufu said with a smile, “Madam did well today. You did very good. That’s how one should deter others and assert authority.”
Madam Zhou blushed and said somewhat embarrassedly, “Well, it was also with Qiu Xiang’s help by my side. Otherwise, I’m afraid I might have faltered.”
“This servant dares not take credit.” Qiu Xiang gave a small bow humbly.
Wufu, holding her other arm, said, “Madam, you have to eat one bite at a time, and walk one step at a time. You can’t become fat with just one mouthful; gradual progress is good. Change has to come slowly.”
Madam Zhou seemed to gain immense confidence and nodded, “I understand.” Then she added, “But Wufu, I feel they certainly won’t just let this go, they’re sure to come back.”
“It doesn’t matter, let them come if they will, they won’t get any advantages!” Wufu said indifferently.
She had never thought of venting her anger over Zhou Xuennian’s marital issues on others, so she had never considered attacking Madam Lu’s maternal family. Now that they had walked into the line of fire themselves, seeking their own end, she wouldn’t be blamed for being ruthless.
After comforting Madam Zhou, Wufu returned to her own room and called for Purple Jade.
“Does the young lady have orders?” Purple Jade stood with her hands down by her side.
“The Lu Family slaughters pigs and sells meat in Taiping Town, practically monopolizing the entire pig-slaughtering business there. Their ancestral home is in Lu Family Village, just on the edge of Taiping Town. Go there for me; I want the Lu Family to be unable to sell a single pig bristle. As for how to accomplish that, I’ll leave the plan up to you,” Wufu instructed.
Purple Jade thought for a moment, then asked, “Does the young lady intend to destroy the Lu Family?”
Wufu nodded, “The people of the Lu Family can swagger around like crabs, but isn’t it all because they can slaughter pigs? That’s their foundation—it’s what has allowed the Lu Family to accumulate such wealth. I want to see, with their foundation eroded by me, how they will continue to swagger! And what will Madam Lu rely on then!”
Old Lady Lu’s foul words had all been heard by Wufu, and without her even lifting a finger, just a glance was enough for Jadeite to flick a pebble as a warning.
Fortunately, there were still some sensible people in the Lu Family, like Lu Da. But what of it?
Offend her, and don’t expect to leave intact!
“Young lady, this servant understands!” Purple Jade responded, then added, “But young lady, tomorrow is the Lantern Festival, and the restaurant opens. Do you need this servant to be there? Should we deal with the Lu Family quickly or slowly wear them down?”
Wufu smiled faintly, “Let’s wrap this up before February.”
After reaching the age of marriage in February, she would probably have to leave for Changan with Ah Jiu. Before that, she needed to clear these troubles for Madam Zhou; otherwise, who knew what kind of trouble could arise in her absence?
“Yes!”
Purple Jade did not ask why it had to be before February. Whatever the young lady ordered, she would do. But as for how to ruin the Lu Family’s business—she needed to plan it out properly.
