“Have you moved the entire shop back here?” Ah Jiu asked, unable to hide her amusement as she watched them.

Wufu laughed and said, “What I’ve bought is different.”

Before setting off, everyone had established a method of communication. Wufu had been sending regular safe arrival messages back home through this channel.

Now, having been away for half a month, she finally received a letter from home.

Wufu took the letter and let Purple Jade and the others sort through her purchases while she sat at the table to read the letter.

First, she read Madam Zhou’s letter, which contained nothing but advice on safety and concerns about being outside, followed by discussions of some minor matters.

Next, she read Liu Jin’s letter, which detailed recent events, including those concerning the business, the estate, Duan Rong’s situation, and then mentioned an issue with the Old Zhou family.

As she had previously instructed, due to the Lu Family’s pressure, Zhou Xuennian’s family indeed reached the point of having to sell their fields. Following her suggestions, Zhou Xueli bought the fields and also took Old Lady Zhou into his own home to be cared for.

Zhou Xuennian was clamoring to divorce Madam Lu, but the Lu Family threatened that if he divorced his wife, they would immediately demand the return of the silver spent on securing his scholar status, which infuriated Zhou Xuennian to near apoplexy.

As for the silver from the sold fields, when the Lu Family learned of it, they immediately seized a portion. Now, the eldest Zhou family was merely surviving on the small allowance of grain Zhou Xueli sent each month. He also warned them that if they continued to harass people they shouldn’t and failed to behave, they would not receive even this small subsidy, effectively cowing Zhou Xuennian and his family.

Without fields or silver, and Zhou Xueli having offered some silver to smooth things over, Zhou Xuennian managed to secure a job as an accountant in the town, and even Zhou Dajun was sent out to work as a laborer carrying goods.

After causing chaos, the Old Zhou family finally settled down for the time being.

Wufu set down the letter and sighed. She hoped that Zhou Xueli would continue to be strong and maintain control over the entire Old Zhou family, and prevent his problematic siblings from causing any further trouble.
